Answer:
It does not idle down ie a Honda por Yamaha as those are inverters and the Champion 3500/4000 is a generator and as such runs at a constant speed so as to produce constant 60 Hertz.

Answer:
All conventional generators, such as this one. Depend on the engine speed to provide a proper frequency. These do not idle under no load, but they will be marginally quieter.

The second answer is correct. The engine must run at a constant RPM in order to produce 120 Volts. Some more expensive generators have a NO LOAD down to idle feature, but not this one.

This is a synchronous style generator which means it is designed to run at 3600 rpm, regardless of the load, in order to create 60 cycles a second or 60Hz of electrical frequency which is the North American standard. As a load is applied to the generator it will increase resistance to the engine requiring more fuel consumption to maintain 3600 rpm. Think of it as a car in cruise control going up a hill Read More

No, this does not have idle down feature.I will say when you put a good load on it has a change of sound but not because it speeds up but because of a change in pitch. Maybe a very slight noise increase. A engine thats being worked sounds different than one is not.

They recommend no more than 80ft. Which is far enough away to start with out ear protection. Honestly though the db level running is not high enough to require protection to start with in my opinion.

It's not as quiet as a high dollar Honda or Yamaha at approx. 3 times the price, but has a very tolerable sound level. It is quieter than any other economy brand generator I have heard.

No - not like the Yamaha. This is not an inverter model. It's fairly quiet for a standard generator. If I remember right the spec is 68db at 21 ft or the like. You can talk next to it but it's pretty loud.

It's not as quiet as an "Inverter Generator" . I would say that your not going to like it in a campground. Your neighbors will like it less. You might be able to rig up some kind of sound proof box to put it in. But it's simple, the more you spend the lower the decibles

Answer:
No. The idle down feature would be nice but this generator does not offer that. I do have a Powerhorse 9000 that does and the idea is great but i dont like how it runs on idle down mode. If im trying to run something that does not draw much electricity, it will not kick out of the idle down mode and i have to go flip the switch to idle the generator back up so it can send steady electricity.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 127 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good generator shipping was prompt, generator was delivered on time to my neighbors house ( ups not home depots fault) put in oil and hooked up battery and it fired right up. I ran it for 5 hours and changed oil as directed in instructions. We then took it on 4 day trip and ran our toyhauler with a/c and all appliances. We did not try microwave and a/c at same time but we are not the microwave type anyway. Generator was flawless all weekend, 12 to 14 hours depending on load. It is not as quiet as a Honda but at the mud park it doesn't matter, besides I can buy three more on top of this one for price of 1 Honda 3000. Very satisfied so far. September 6, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Bought for the remote start I bought this generator to run the A/C and other 110 features of my RV when camping in the woods. It does support my roof air and generally has been ok. However, we have had a chronic problem with the carb getting dirty (I think something left in the tank at the time of manufacture) and the generator ceases to operate. This can be an issue when we are depending on it. We are able to remove the carb, clean and replace it in about 15 or 20 minutes and went so far as to add a fuel filter. I have become frustrated with it. It is fairly noisy, also. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by the category 5 remote start is a great gen.set. had the gen.set. for three years use it to power my T.T. a/c,micowave (on 600 power) elect.fridg. that is maxing the gen.set. 400 hr in 15 days.change oil every 100 hr.recomend leaving the a/c off while microwave is in use (1000 power) August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Customer Service Bought from Walmart on their ship to store program - either FEDEX or Walmart managed to bang up packaging by rolling a rectangular box. Battery was loose and had a broken air cleaner cover. Customer service at Champion handled immediately. Unit starts and performs as advertised - my wife can manage it easily and wouldn't go near the old generator. Perfect as a hurricane backup. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Remote start works great! Very happy what does generator exceptional value for the price have over 35 hours on it not one problem August 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Electric start generator I had this item shipped to my local Home Depot since I work , it arrived 4 or 5 days early which was great nothing was damaged. Got it home and put the wheels and legs on and oil in then gassed it up connected the battery turned the switch and gas on and pressed the start button on the remote and guess what ..... it started right up. I'm very pleased with this generator ,I connected it to my camper and ran everything in it without any problem and could not hear it running outside. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Generator The generator was super easy to use and I love how it's not too noisy. It was a great purchase for us for the camper. September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My Gen You are just begging for compliments by making this required. I enjoy the generator and it works fine. I would buy another if this one takes a dive. August 9, 2016
