The recoil doesnt recoil back up anymore

One pull is all I get. The cord will not recoil. If (rarely) it doesnt start in one pull, I have to take off the casing, coil it back up, put the casing back on and try again. Kind of bothersome during inclement weather/power outage, especially in the dark. Can I fix or replace the recoil thingy so it will work again? other than this, I absolutely LOVE this generator. usually one pull is all I need, and she blazes on for me. But, I would be better if the recoil worked. I have the 6800 - 41135

What is the THD on this unit?

I am looking for the best buy for my money. Searching for a generator for my RV that will not only handle the load, but one that is cleaner power than standard. I see that this unit has Auto Voltage regulator, but I'm curious of the THD rating. Why does Champion not advertise this number...is it because it's not a good number? I want to protect my appliances and devices to the best my dollar will buy. Since I don't have a lot of those $$'s...it's very important to me to get the best value.
Asked by: Chris
Your answer is not satisfactory...and I warn anyone reading this to do some research. It is known in the Electronics world that if you have over 5-6% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) that you can damage any electronics with a mircro-processor. Yes, you can probably get away with it...but do yourself a favor and do some research before buying. There are other relatively in-expensive generators who claim that they produce less than 5-6%. I'm sorry Mr. Champion, but that's the truth...and I feel more confident now that I won't buy your products. If you had something producing the lower range numbers, I'd consider it...until you tried to tell me that it was okay to use a 20% distortion rated gen on any general home electronics. Are you going to buy me a new laptop when it burns up because of dirty power? Didn't think so!

5,500-Watt/6,800-Watt Recoil Start Gasoline Powered Portable Generator is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from carb and filter problem but rest is great we bought ours barely used. We used ours about once a week for about 1-2 hrs to run a saw, cutter or other small equip in a salvage yard. After using it for a few months it wouldnt start so we dropped shut of valve and cleaned filter. That lasted a few more months then filter plugged again and carb started leaking. we ordered new carb and cleaned filter again then all good until now. Filter is bad so we are ordering a new style replacement filter and are told should be good to go. The generator, when running does a great job and performs well. parts are reasonable and service helpful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great generator, easy to start. This generator is easy to operate and has high enough output to operate all of my emergency back-up heaters and a microwave. I hope I never have to use it but if I do I know I can depend on the easy starting and reliable operation. New purchasers should double check the oil in the crankcase as delivered. I added fresh oil to the unit and discovered there was still some left in the crank from the factory. Other than that it was a piece of cake to assemble and get running. Cranked on second pull after adding gas and turning on the petcock, and I love the fact the engine is easy to drain and refill (funnel included). Also tech bulletins available on the champion website are a real nice touch including how to adjust the valves after break-in. Great customer service as well with questions answered by e-mail. Champion is a top drawer company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasantly surprised! I would have paid for a "better" named generator, but Champion is all they had in the store post Sandy. I was pleasantly surprised how well this unit has been working. It saved me from the cold nights. I have it wired to my circuit board. It powers my LCD tv, lights, computer, garage door opener, refrigerator and most importantly my oil fired furnace without a hitch. This unit has exceeded my expectations. Oh...I forgot, it ran overnight and it only used a half tank of gas!!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great except for gas leaking from carbrator For the first 7 months this unit started up quickly whenever I tested it out. It supplies almost 1/2 of my home, from boiler, sumps, freezer, refrigerator, and some medical items. After shutting it down on month 8 fuel started to accumulate under the carburetor. I removed it, cleaned the needle valve and reinstalled it. 3 Months later, after shut down the same problem occured. After 3 more times of this, I am replacing the carburetor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far, so good. - Sandy victim Bought one for myself and one for the in-laws. Real simple to use if you have common sense. Started right up after 2 pulls. Was able to power the frige, stove, a lamp and a LED tv. I unplug the stove and the tv when I wanted to use the washing machine/dryer. So far, so good. I'll repost if there's anything negative.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Set-Up and Operation I bought this generator a few days ago due to hurricane power loss. Set-up took about 10 minutes and it started pretty easily (5 or 6 pulls) for such a large generator. I ran a water pump, refrigerator, router/modem, DVR and TV and had excellent gas consumption.
