Will the grill come with the wood shown in the photo or some cheaper stuff?

Do the store put grill together when they arrive?

Asked by: Anonymous
No, if you have it delivered, you assemble it yourself. You should ask your local store if they offer assembly in store or if you would like to buy a display, those come already assembled (as long as you have a way to take it home assembled).

Customer Reviews

Classic Full-Size Charcoal Grill is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 76.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Several design flaws; some parts poorly made The cons: End of handle was chipped (char-broil will replace it). Terrible installation experience; nearly impossible to install lid with only 2 people; Char-Broil ought to include rods or large nails that can be slipped through a couple of the screw holes to help keep the lid hinge aligned with the firebox hinge (I used thin screwdrivers); holding the lid for 6-7 min while the screws and nuts are being installed is very difficult for one person, especially if that person is not very tall; the instructions should caution against trying to install the lid restraints AFTER the lid is attached (can't be done; we had to remove all eight screws and start over after installing the restraints). I had to drill out 3 holes on the iron components in order to get the screws through (some consumers won't have the tools to do this kind of thing), and I had to redrill/reem out the hole in one of the two wooden handle spacers. The round-head screws that anchor the side trays to the legs should be replaced with counter-sunk, flat head screws (I will probably use a Forstner bit to create flat-bottom recesses in the undersides of the cutting boards so they will fit better into the side trays). The unit I received has a 1/8" gap at the "roof" of the lid on the right side (allows smoke/heat to escape). The speed-nuts supplied for the pins that hold the logo plate on the lid are impossible to install; we had to purchase better ones. Two of the grates are warped and badly cast (char-broil will replace them), and they were coated with what looked and smelled like cooking grease (supposed to be a protective "wax" coating for shipping; very difficult to wash off with "mild soap" as per the instructions. Instructions p3 mention positioning "butterfly dampers ¼-turn..." The model I purchased does not have butterfly dampers. Door hinges scrape paint off firebox when the door is opened. The fire grate (charcoal tray) easily tips forward or backward, and when that happens, the fire grate hanger slips off the firebox at one side or the other. This could be dangerous. Nothing prevents the hot briquettes from falling off the fire grate at the sides. This significant design flaw will continue to annoy me greatly as I use this grill. Furthermore, the stainless steel bars should have been spaced closer, as small briquettes (small to begin with or small after burning for a few minutes) readily fall through. The pros: Good temperature maintenance. Glad there's no chimney.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Quality, versatile bbq pit We owned one of these years ago. After many years of use it had to be retired. We then bought an offset smoker/grill to replace but it never was easy to control temperature, etc. with the offset and we never liked it as well as the old Char-broil. The Char-Broil is very heavy duty & durable. Temperature control is very good. The adjustable charcoal grates can be raised & lowered which is a big help. The set up is a little bit of a hassle but be sure to follow the instructions concerning the seasoning of the cast iron cooking grates and keep the ash tray cleaned after each use: this will help prevent rusting (applies to any pit). This is a grill and NOT a smoker although indirect cooking is easy with this pit. I would recommend this grill. It can put out some great grub!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Engineering problems Overall the grill will be as good as the old model after I modify it. Casters that came with unit were not heavy enough for its weight. I installed another pair of large wheels. Unit doesn't draft well, air circulation is at the back of the box, consumes to much charcoal to fast. Fire grate does not cover enough of the area under the grates. Old fire box design was far superior. I extend to have a fire grate made like the old design. I am going to seal the cover to cooker with a gasket and install adjustable air vents to control the fire. I had my original CB940 for almost 15 years and it was great unit. With this units heavy metal construction, and the modifications I plan to make it should cook well and last a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best gift ever! I purchased this grill as a Father's Day gift for my husband and he can't stop telling people about his new toy! The grill is made with great material. It is heavy and very stable. The two cutting boards that go on either side of the grill are beautiful. Once they've been rubbed with mineral oil for a week the beautiful grain of the wood is more visible. The cast iron grates are awesome because they give steaks that awesome pattern found in many steak houses. The grill keeps its temperature very well, too! The fact that one can add coal without having to uncover the entire grill is great when slow cooking. I would definitely recommend this grill to a friend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Charcoal Grill Ever--- This is my second 940. My first lasted 18 years and I abused it. This one is better than my first one. It's easy to cook on and I use it to grill and smoke. This past weekend I cooked a pork shoulder for 11 hours on Saturday and hamburgers on Sunday. It is easy to access and control the fire and easy to clean up. It has outstanding quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the charcoal grill of my dreams! I previously owned the Char-Broil Santa Fe model, which I considered to be the best that I've owned. I used it for years until the bottom wore through. When I learned about the CB940X model, which is much stronger & sturdier, I was thrilled & had to have it. No other grill has cooked to my satisfaction than the Char-Broil brand. I've owned a propane grill, a Weber, & a Brinkmann propane/charcoal combo, but none compared to Char-Broil. I love the sturdy cast-iron grating, the very sturdy ash-catch tray, the fact that the coals can be lifted up or down, but I especially love the front door that allows you to add more charcoal during cooking. If you like the taste of charcoal-cooked barbecue, you would absolutely be happy with the CB940X.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best charcoal grill available. This is a wonderful grill. I purchased one 16 years ago and used it for 10 years. I was not able to find a comparable grill to replace it until now. So thrill that CharBroil brought this product back. ps My husband is thrilled also !!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Grill for a Great Price!!! This beast weighs as much as a gunsafe, absolutely requires 2 people to assemble per manual instructions - especially when screwing in the 50lb lid to hinges. Cooked twice on it thus far, everything turned out flawless. Extremely heavy duty, great heat distribution, leaves excellent grill lines, maintains heat well, best feature is the cast-iron grates. Don't forget to season pit per instructions and clean/season grates after each cook or they will rust. And buy a good cover so it will last and not rust from outside elements. The only complaint I have is the relatively cheap metal coal rack and locking mechanism to lift/lower the coals. I had to bend the lifting rods appx 5 degrees inward so I can shut the lid promptly at any height. Also, during assembly I had accidently pulled up too fast and the rack dropped into the ash box; that is the last thing you would want to do when cooking, you will get ash all over your fine cuisine. The hooks that cradle the bottom coal rack need to be bent inward too so the rack can't drop out. A+ to Home Depot for delivery, said appx 2 weeks, got it within 4 days. I would recommend this grill to anyone and everyone... Propane is for the birds Hank Hill; cooking on coals separates the men from the Bobby's.
