Cooks meats real good and evenly, easy to clean. Great design pertaining to the concept of the IR. The biggest problem is that the grill is cheaply built thin sheet metal very light. Mine has went swimming in the pool due to being so light weight and some wind assistance. . Have your settings down pat because in less than a year the screen print for dials will be gone. I would buy another if it was built better. Tornado sent it two houses down and it's demolished. Will be looking for a different brand for replacement. What a shame wish it was built with better quality.

I've had several gas grills over the past 20 or so years, and I have never had one that works as good as this infrared grill. I looked at ratings on the internet for gas grills and studied them before I purchased, and the reviews are everything they say. I was skeptical of course, as I usually am with things like this, but I decided to go with a Tru-Infrared Char Broil grill. I am absolutely thrilled with this grill. The steaks come off the grill with more juice, and there are no worries about flame ups at all. The absence of flame ups makes a huge difference in the way the food turns out.
if you're looking for a problem free and absolutely terrific grill, this is the one to get. You might need to pay a bit more for it, but you won't be disappointed.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Brokendog58 Good but hard to regulate temp
I had only several snags putting this together but overall it was not bad. I have been using this for a month and am still having difficulties regulating the temperature. I can't see the flames so it is hard to judge how much heat it is putting out. the pan below catches all the drippings and sometimes.this is a pain to clean. I just keep my eye on things while cooking until I become more confident. I invested in the rotisserie and was happy I did. I loved it the first time I had several roasts cooking on it at once. several hours and they were perfect.

Purchased this grill to replace a rusting-from-the-inside old 4-burner model. I didn't need 4 burners anyway, too much for a single guy. Over all this is a good quality grill. It fires right up every time and cooks well, fairly easy to clean.
The "infrared" tech in this is a gimmick though. All it is is an extra solid plate between the burners and the grill grates. It DOES make cleaning easier because it's bowed in and catches all the fat that drips off your meat. But other than including that plate, there's no difference between this an a "non-infrared" grill.

I am 60 years old and have had alot of grills in that time. I got the charbroil and did not believe how fast it warms up and how well it cooks. I read the red book but still did not beleive it could cook that fast so I cooked a 1 inch thick sirlon steak about 5 minutes each side, which on all of my old grills would have been rare, on the charbroil it was almost well done, it had a slight trace of pink in the middle and was real juicy. I cooked chicken breats filets on it for about 8 minutes each side and they were done and juicy. So far the BEST grill I have ever had. This grill does eveything Charbroil says it does and I hooked it up to my house LP. This is the cheapest gas grill I have ever owned and the best.

This grill is simply amazing and an upgrade from last yr version. Make sure u get the "tru-infrared" model as opposed to the "red" one as the tru is the updated model. I'm an average cook at best, but after cooking on this grill, at a party for 50+ guests, everyone thought I was a chef and stated they have never had BBQ as good as mine. Perfect sear marks all the time and nothing ever dries out, but stays nice and juicy. Very easy to clean. Restaurant quality meats if used properly.. No exaggeration.. Worth every penny.. And I'm crazy cheap... I mean thrifty...

I bought this grill last year from Home Depot after having to put my old grill "out to pasture". This one does not have open flames so no problem with flare up, like my old one. No more food on fire! It cooks much faster, sears meat quickly and the fact of not cooking over an open flame makes for no charred food, unless you're not paying attention to it! I bought a rotisserie and did a pork roast on it with great and tasty results. This grill also makes it easy to add wood chips for flavor, which I did with the pork roast>delicious!! I'd recommend this grill!

I replaced my last Tru-Infrared with this new one. Grilling is a bit different with the infrared, but I am hardly a 'master griller' and my steaks come out with that wonderful crispness on the outside, but juicy on the inside since it seals the flavors. I especially love the side burner & use it nearly everyday. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star is the quality of the stainless is not up to par with the high-end $$$ grills. But like I said I replaced my old one with this as well!

I had read that this may be a cheaply made grill and rusts easily. I have found this to be off base. Further, it cooks better than any grill I've ever had. I didn't know meat could be done this well. Grilled my first Thanksgiving turkey. The family loved it. I'm hooked. Infrared is the way to go.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Donnita RED 3 Gas Grill
I ordered this grill because it was highly rated in CR. Be warned--it is really complicated to put together. We started pulling the pieces out of the box and many of them were bent or dented. In fact, the cover has a huge dent in it. I should have sent it back but it was delivered when I wan not home and had someone over to put it together for what was to be a BBQ that evening (we cooked in the over). The material is rather flimsy and the booklet cautions that you should not out anything heavy on the side burner or the shelf! But for $400, what should you expect....

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by wcnc Nice Grill But it can flame up
I have had the 4 burner Charbroil Red grill for many years and it is the best grill I have owned. I purchased this new model and smaller 3 burner grill for a second home. What I found is the troughs are more shallow than the 4 burner Red grill I have and had some problems with fat dripping from food flaming up. It may be that I need to adjust cooking temperatures differently than I do with the 4 burner Red grill. Otherwise I am happy with the grill.

Product was easy to put together. I really like the indirect cooking feature. I'm not a gourmet griller nor do I grill every night when the weather's nice, so I tend to burn food. So far, everything that I've cooked has turned out juicy and delicious!
Quality is about what you expect now-a-days. I had a Kenmore grill for 10 years and the only reason I changes was becuase I needed to replace most of the internal parts and the grill was a little small for my current needs. If I get 7 years out of this grill, I'll be happy. Time will tell.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by yamahatim How grilling should be
Well after having this grill 2 weeks I am more than impressed. Did alot of research and finally pulled the trigger. I can say I honestly love this grill. No hotspots, minimal flareups, excellent searing. Plus, adding woodchips for a smoked flavor may leave my charcoal grill rusty. Cleanup is easy and much better than a standard grill because of the intense heat on the clean setting turns everything to ash, and the "U" shaped pan just wipes clean. I do put oil on the "U" pan after each use to hopefully extend the life of it. 5 stars is not enough.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Jase Cooks food great
Spent over a year looking to upgrade my grill, and as soon as I talked myself into spending the money on a better grill, rather than a bigger grill, this one stood out. Decided to try the tru-infrared after dealing with flareups for years and watching my father in-law burn himself and singe his hair off over and over. Think of this grill more like an oven. Cooks great, keeps food juicy, not burnt and dried out. Heavy duty grates and the full "drip pan" slides out easy clean up. Was pretty easy to put together too, took just over an hour.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Moepete Pretty solid grill
Pretty solid grill all around with a few things that drive me crazy.
Pros: the new Tru-infared heat system works well. Gives it an extremely hot and even heat source. Takes a few times to get used to how it cooks. Extra side burner is great for boiling corn and lobsters.
Cons: the grill gets so hot its warped the pan that the grates sit on and therefore they no longer sit evenly. So they bounce around at times. The pan which claims self cleaning from any drippings which the high heat is supposed to burn off works so so. Still have to take the grates out and wipe it out which is still easier than a regular grill. Lastly, we keep it on the deck uncovered and the front char-broil emblem leaves rust stains running down the outside front.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Neil I really love this grill!
First thing I need to say is I did not assemble this grill, I bought one pre-assembled form the store so I cant speak to the complaints I read about assembly. I have owned this grill for over a year and love it, the infrared technology is really cool, this grill gets super hot fast for searing steaks and also cooks really good at low temperatures, no flare ups ever and all surfaces of the grill cook evenly. keep it covered and clean and I think you will get many good years out of it, mine has held up pretty good so far. I highly recommend!!!

Poor build quality. It's an absolute rust bucket. I seasoned cleaned and re-seasoned after every use. (major pain) it's easier to use a charcoal grill. After all this work it still rusted out in about a year. As far as cooking, it stinks. You have to burn the outside to get the inside of anything to cook. I've been cooking on grills and smokers for 20 years this is by far the worst product that I have owned. Looks like my food wasn't the only thing that got burn by this product. Avoid this product!!!! Save your pennies for a Weber, it's worth it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Loco great grill!!
I heard lot's of complaints about the temperature of this grill. Mine heats up to around 400 degress (according to the hood thermometer) which is plenty hot enough to both sear the food AND clean the unit. My experience has been nothing short of excellent!!. The meats sear well and stay nice and moist. No drip cup means no external mess. The "U" as it's referred to, is easy to clean. Just heat it up and brush it out. No burner exposure to the elements means the components should last much longer that a conventional grill. I highly recommend this unit.

Our old gas grill had finally grown too unsafe to use. After shopping around we decided that infrared was the way to go for our new grill. The unit was shipped to our home by Home Depot. The assembly took some time - but I tend to be slow and deliberate when assembling products. Though it took me a few hours, it was not difficult. One suggestion: the instuctions say to have two people lift the grill head onto the base. I found it easier to lay the base over on its back and place the grill head in position without 'lifting' it. After completing the assembly, we placed the LP tank in the grill and tried it out. WOW!!! Incredible results. Best steak I've ever tasted from a home grill. This thing is worth every penny. Amazing results. We LOVE it!!!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by DIY123 Great Grill, cook great food
Just got one a few days ago. Have used it for almost everyday. We have the best BBQ meal since I started to BBQ at home. The Tru-infrared made perfect rib without burning it. I used to burned my food all the time but not anymore. The grill give the perfect brown color and light burn mark on the meat without really burn your food. Even my wife agreed that this is the best grill we had. However, the material is kind of cheap. I wish they would use a thicker material. The fire box is very thin. I could picture the grill get rusted like other people comment if you don't clean the grill properly after every use. I hand wash the grill with soap and turn on the burner to dry it. Finally, I coat it with oil. So far so good. Hope I can get 3 to 5 yrs of it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GrillinTime Best Investment for Summer
I was skeptical at first about buying an Infrared grill because I was afraid it would not give me the same "grilled food" taste I have enjoyed over the years. After spending an hour in the store and a trip back after checking it out online I bought it. BEST INVESTMENT for summer!! I have never had better burgers, not even from restaurants. My steaks are unbelievably juicy and cooked to perfection with excellent grill marks. It heats up quickly and truly is a breeze to clean. The book mentioned temps up to 900 degrees for cleaning. I have not tested it yet but my hood temps easily reach around 400 degrees. Searing steaks is quick and it only took about eight minutes to cook a few 2 1/2 thick steaks to medium. I am very pleased with my decision.

Took about 30 minutes to assemble. Nice heavy grates to cook on. Still learning how to cook on it since it is not an open flame directly under your food but a curved tray to heat from. Flames are under the curved tray.
A word of caution: I turn the gas off at the tank when I am done for the day, so be careful reaching in to turn off because everything above your hand is VERY hot.
Have not used side burner yet.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by robert64 Product performs admirably!
The manual suggested that 30 minutes was required to put the grill together. I read instruction manuals and attempt to follow them. It took me and my assistant (a 14-year old boy from the neighborhood) slightly over 3 hours to complete. Everything went as planned except one screw holding up the right side shelf is misaligned and won't fully engage. A minor problem, but annoying. The grill performs better than any grill I have ever used, so the misalignment is forgiven. I have cooked steaks, chicken, and brats so far and each has been a real success. The infrared system creates even temperatures over the entire surface—whether you desire searing steaks a very high temperature or cooking brats through without burning the outsides. Highly recommended!

I was very anxious to try an infrared grill. Its's easy to use and fast cooking. Took a little getting used to at first but got the hang of it pretty quick. I enjoy using it.
Was a little disappointed with my purchase though. the first grill they tried to give me was damaged pretty bad and I pointed that out to the sales person. while loading up the second one, I noticed there were screws missing and the side tray almost bent and broke off.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by bgrillin The Steaks are amazing!
I thought the "Tru-Infrared" system was going to turn out to just be hype, but bought the grill anyway because I figured at least it would prevent flare-ups. Well, I was wrong.
This grill cooks the most amazing, incredibly moist steaks I've ever tasted. Additionally, it cooks very even, just right on the outside and exactly the same, perfect medium rare all the way through. I also love how easy it is to add wood chips to give everything a great smoky flavor.
I gave it four stars instead of three because the stainless steel is a bit flimsy. I guess that helps make it more affordable, but I would have liked it to have a more solid feel. Regardless, I'm very happy with the purchase and would encourage anyone looking for a grill to choose a Char-Broil Red.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Matt Poor construction - trough rusted through after 2 seasons
I purchased this Char Broil Red grill after reading many reviews about its fantastic cooking ability. While the price appeared quite reasonable compared to some of the Weber grills, you obviously get what you pay for. The temperature gauge on the front of the hood failed without a month of use (covered by warranty) but then radiant trough (one of the key components of the grill) rusted through after only 2 seasons of use (not covered as warranty is only 1 year). Replacements are available from the manufacturer, but at a somewhat steep cost of $50+ with shipping. Additionally, my wife and I did not find the cooking ability to be any better than our old direct flame gas grill which was much cheaper. Given these issues, I cannot recommend this grill.

Just spent time time today putting this together -takes about 1.5 hrs I would say, but instructions are very good.
First attempt failed as the grill arrived damaged, I am not surprised as it came via UPS ground from the other side of the US and seemed to tour around most states before arriving 3 weeks later. Recommend buying at the store, despite big signs saying order on line with free delivery.
Have only tested it so far and it got up to 400 degrees in about 5 minutes of pre-heat. Looks very nice. Metal seems a bit thin, but looks nice.

Grill was easy to assemble. It will last a few years and then will rust like any other grill I've owned...including some highly priced ones.
This grill is much better than the 4 burner Charbroil!! It heats up faster and cooks evenly.
So far...I really like it. Just be careful..food cooks a lot faster on this grill, but the meat is still so juicy and absolutely no flare ups...I tried and none!!
