Customer Questions & Answers

can you take the two pans out from under the grids and use this grill as an open flame grill? I feel like the grill roasts like an oven

Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you all for your responses. I saw 2 mistakes I made. One was that the grids were on upside down... the flat side was up so the steaks had no grill marks at all. The bigger mistake was that I didn't heat the grill long enough. I see thats going to make a huge difference in the appearance and the taste. Thank you again for your quick responses... and might I add... I'm loving this grill now that I know how to use it!!!

can this grill be adapted to natural gas instead of propane tank

Asked by: Anonymous can answer that question. I believe it can. Many Char-Broil models have this option.

Do you have to pre-season the grill prior to using for the first time?

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, that is simple to do. Heat it up cover it in cooking oil after it cools. Replacement grids are $44 each and it has four of them so take care.

Customer Reviews

Gourmet 4-Burner TRU-Infrared Propane Gas Grill with Side Burner is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 149.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have had this grill since they came out I live in a dry climate and this is by far one of the best grills i have ever seen; i use all the features including smoking meats. I have no rust so im assuming those reviews are for climates much different from mine (tucson, AZ) my two only complaints are that the cooking time; since its basically an outdoor oven it does take a decent amount of time to cook; but even when i forgot about the meat on the grill it didnt burn and all of the decals have flaked off. This grill has had near perfect preformance for just over 2 years which to the nay sayers unless your buying a $1500 weber your not going to get better steel; the grill is well put together with already threaded metal you dont have to worry about dropping or losing nuts when assembling. If i ever decide to upgrade to an island i can since the top cooking unit easily unbolts to attach to any surface. This steel is good quality considering i have had trisodium phosphate spilled all over it twice, the rain for 2 1/2 years, the sun for 2 1/2 years, and even my dog has marked it a few times; to my amazment no blemishes, marks, or rust on the entire grill.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from poor quality good cooking Had ours for three years which we cook an average two times a week year round. We replaced the starter twice and finaly quit using it because it broke again. We had to replaced the trays which rusted out at our cost. The second year the frame work which holds the trays rusted out which we welded parts to keep it operating. The final death of the BBQ was the framework holding the burners rusted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The BEST yet! I've owned this grill now for 2 years. It has been on my deck (uncovered) for those 2 years. It's still like the day I bought it. Not a speck of rust anywhere. As far as the cooking part of it, It's next to none. I can take the temp all the way up to almost 800 degrees if need be. Perfect for searing. Want a little smoke flavor? Just throw a few wood chips in the troffs. Best all around grill I've owned yet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This grill cooks a great steak. I bought this grill online and had to assemble it myself. It went pretty smooth and I had it together in about 2.5 hours. One part was damaged when I removed it from the packing but it bent back fairly easily. I followed the directions and seasoned the grill with canola oil. Cooked some brats that came out well. Where this grill really shines is burgers, chicken and especially STEAKS!! The infrared heat sears the outside, doesn't flare up and the steak came off the grill like butter! Throw in a few wood chips and get a great smokey flavor . This is not the best quality grill out there for fit/ finish, but so far I LOVE the way it cooks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This thing puts out some great food! After extensive research and review reading, I was sceptical about this grill. I suppose you could say I settled on this grill because it fit within my budget, it seemed pretty user friendly for the wife (she burns) and sheer curiosity about this "Infra Red" stuff. As of right now, we could not be happier. I picked up a rotisserie and the some smoke pellets along with this thing and man, this thing made one heck of a hickory smoked rotisserie chicken, Boston Market has nothing on me! We've also done some of the best burgers we've ever had, yes, they were smoked, I can't stop, just drop them in the pan, it's so easy! Next are steaks, I can't wait. I will more than likely write another review in 3 -6 months to either verify or dispel all the talk of this being a rust bucket. Until then, I'm fat, dumb, and happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good. First of all the grill was a good value in relation to comparable products. Assembly was fairly straight foreword but a little time consuming. It probably took me 2 and a half hours from opening the box to firing it up. A few steps require a second set of hands so have that handy. As far a am happy the grill gets well over 700 degrees yet is pretty controllable. I can cook very quickly so it had to adjust my timing a bit. Again overall I have had the grill 2 months and I am happy with the way it cooks and its appearance as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Love IR Cooking Once you start cooking with Infrared you won't go back. Everything comes out great. Try boneless skinless chicken breasts on this grill and they won't dry out. Try that on a regular grill. On this four burner grill I like that there are two different cooking sides. So you need to only use one side for a couple of steaks, or you can use both side for larger cook outs. Or as I do, use the other side at a lower tempature to grill vegatables. Assembly was easy but it did take about four hours to put together. With a little TLC this grill will last a long time. My last Char-Broil did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best grill ever..and I've owned plenty I recently purchased the four-burner model. We cook outside 3-4 times per week. I have had this grill for two weeks and have cooked many different meats on it. I prefer to cook larger cuts and poultry slow and at lower temperatures to preserve moisture and tenderness. The indirect heat feature of this grill and the fact that the dripping fat does not touch flame allow absolute control of the temperature. Only by human error will this grill flare up. Do not, let that indirect heat thing fool you. This baby gets hot quickly. Steaks, burgers, and dogs all end up with that "char-stripe." The key to success with this grill is keeping it clean. It needs better hygiene practices than your normal direct heat grill. Although it has a self-cleaning feature, I hate wasting the gas and the effects of the high heat. The pans and porcelain covered grates are easy enough to remove and just as easy to clean. I simply hose them off and wash with soap and water. The grates fit nicely in the dishwasher. The side burner is as good as one would want. Burner is not quite up for a 3-gallon deep fryer, but handles bacon, eggs, hot cakes, skillet beans, pan fried steaks and light frying with ease. Only downside is that there is no place to add a few wood chips for some smoke flavor. I'm not a big fan of heavy smoke anyway, so that's not an issue. I had mine delivered to my home in a big box and assembled it during a Monday night football game. Cooked a bacon sandwich for midnight snack. Picture instructions are adequate for the novice and few tools are required. You know that coffee can in your workshop with the extra screws?? Have it handy as well. You will need a few. Hey, I saved fifty bucks and it was a boring game. Just get the grill and don't scrimp. Get the four-burner. Your friends will love you for it.
