Customer Questions & Answers

Does this smoker use both wood & charcoal?

Asked by: Bigliljen
Yes. You can burn either just charcoal or just wood. I use both (charcoal with wood chunks).

How many pieces of grill lattice in the main chamber?

Is the main grill lattice 1 piece or more? If used as a direct grill, it is sometimes useful to be able to remove part of the grill section to add more charcoal/wood.
Asked by: Anonymous
The main smoking/cooking chamber is a two piece grill grates, the offset firebox is one grill grate.

I'm not seeing that happening due to the lids only open one direction. I know the wind direction can be a problem in some applications, however, I have used an electric fan to direct the smoke and that works really great!

Is it a "reverse flow" design?

Is it a reverse flow design?
Asked by: Anonymous
No, one way from smoker box to grill box to smoker stack. You cannot run the reverse.

Customer Reviews

Longhorn Off-Set Smoker is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 78.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not sure who to fault Home Depot or Charbroil I understand charbroil bought out Oklahoma Joe awhile back, but this smoker is nowhere near the quailty off the original. Soon as I opened the box I knew I had issues. The lid is very uneven and very warped, the bars the lid rest on is so poorly welded it a shame, there are gaps everywhere, the door does not sit flush. The only good thing I can say about this smoker is that it's thick and will hold heat but only after you make a few modifications, which for the 532 dollars you ahould have to... please see my mini video review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 300 pounds of grillin steel! Finally had enough of the family grills! I purchased on line and it is amazing! I could never have imagined it was such a great deal! I purchsed the longhorn cover too. Great products! This should be on the show room floor! I would have picked this out of all the others there. Great control, and the unit is powder coated. The directions are very clear and you can start it with a small amount of charcoal and then use wood on top after that. The entire unit is a master packaged product. When you see how it is packaged, you'll know what I mean. It all came in one box and it's heavy! I couldn't get the whole thing off my truck safely, so I uncrated it while the box was still on my truck. Not a scratch and all the pieces were included. This is the grill that will last for many many years. I could go on and on. You won't need another grill after buying this one. Simply, the way it should always be!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One and Only If you are looking for a Good, SOLID smoker -- this is the one. The other smokers that flex when the wind is blowing with the $200 price tag -- those are beginner smokers. They aren’t bad -- just not worth the cash. I have been using this smoker for several years at a friend’s place and finally got my own. It is beyond a doubt the single best ALL STEEL smoker you can get for the money. I love the fabrication, solid feel as well as the grates -- easily move the grate from the heat or closer as needed. The fire pit is also a solid steel construction, very sturdy and over all a smoker that I would HIGHLY recommend to any meat smoking enthusiast. You will Want to use this once you get it. I'd honestly get two and store it for when this one wore out...That's just me though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good backyard smoker I have had this smoker for approx. 3 months. I followed the instructions to assemble it and had a helper, went together in about 30 minutes. During the break in smoking session, I noticed a few small leaks around the fire box and main cooking chamber. It does hold the heat/smoke in great. I have used it almost every weekend since the purchase. I have smoked pork butt roast, turkeys, trout, salmon, pheasants, pork/beef ribs. This smokers is the next step for the amateur smoker, who wants to hone their skills. I recommend this to all a great product for the $$$

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made of heavy steel. Not stamped sheet metal. This is my first smoker. Love it. Very well made. The thermometer does not work but called HomeDepot and a new one will be on its way as soon as they can send it.It is on back order... Highly recommend this smoker !

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, however... 1. )Smoke / heat leakage at lids. Solution... Nomex high temp BBQ gasket. 1/2" wide x 1/8" thick x 15' long peel & stick. 2.) Smoke / heat leakage at chimney pipe. Solution... Wrap with aluminum tape at insertion point so it's nice & snug. 3.) Exit point for smoke into chimney pipe located too high. Solution... Insert 3" aluminum dryer vent elbow into chimney exit point inside the chamber turned downward.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great heat control plenty of cooking space Originally purchased as gift this smoker does exactly what I wanted to do. The thing weighs a ton however it seals so well and sustains heat so well it makes sense to weigh as much as it does. Overall I'm beyond happy with this purchase. The large cooking surface has allowed me to smoke 4 whole rabbits at once, a full pig, three salmon at a time

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very thin metal ! I bought an Oklahoma Joe Longhorn Offset Smoker about 10 years ago. I've been very happy with it. In fact I'm still using it. When I wanted another one at my ranch, the decision was easy for me to order another one since I was so happy with the first one I purchased. When it arrived, I was very disapointed with the thickness of the metal…. very thin. If I had it to do over, I would not have purchased it. In fact, had I seen it in person, I would not have bought it based on the metal being too thin….cheap. Unfortunately, I'll burn this one out in no time.
