You can't compare electric grills to propane or charcoal grills. I guess you can but you will be disapointed.
This is my second round of Charbroil Electric grills. We are empty nesters so a small grill fits our needs. I also like the conviniance of just plugging it in to my patio outlet.
You have to know that electric grills don't maintain high heat. This is not like a gas grill that you can get to 450 degrees and maintain that temp. The key is to pre heat electric grills and let them get above the temp you are looking for. When you open the lid you have to be quick. You have to leave you food alone with the lid closed.

Pre-heat? The bottom is shaped like a giant funnel, creating a large volume updraft of cold air. Your similarly functioning kitchen oven has no such feature. By placing an inverted small stainless steel mixing bowl over the orifice, pre-heat times are cut from 25-30 minutes to less than 10 minutes ... 550 degrees is easy to reach & maintain. Excess liquid fat will continue to drain as originally designed. Might consider drilling holes for a small drain cover as a permanent fix.
The top lid hinge is poorly designed ... have fix and will report. Basically, replace existing bolts with one with double nuts to provide a proper hinging mechanism

This grill was a gift for my daughter, she assembled it herself and loves it. She lives in a community that does not allow gas grills so this is perfect for her!

I bought this grill a couple of months ago and have used it maybe 10 times. Each time I like the grill less and less. I have always had a propane grill but got tired of having to refill the tank. I thought an electric grill would be perfect. It would be except that it does not retain a high temperature when you use it. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the highest temperature and as soon as you put anything on the grill the temp drops significantly. Cooking takes way too long. getting quite annoyed with using it.

I'm pretty much a die-hard charcoal guy here. But, new apartment in city with wooden deck & city codes (no open flame) prohibit anything but electric grills in my situation. Did some research, this one sounded like it had best features so figured, "what the heck, a guy's gotta grill...". So far, so good; I've grilled some sausage, some burgers & some salmon. Again, it's NOT like cooking over the tried & true charcoal that I learned to grill over & love, but it works. Instruction manual says to pre-heat & they're not kidding. If this were "Try if Before you Buy it", I'd say, "Buy it (if you have to have electric)!" Cheers!
