if you put wood chips on the grill does the smoke from them permeate your food for the taste?

Asked by: ibedi
Yes and you don't need to wet them. Just put a small handful at the back of the grill.

There are tons of accessories available for the Patio Bistro at the Char-Broil and Home Depot websites. Please take a look at the hickory wood chips (2784761), the cast iron smoker box (8184804P) and the Patio Bistro Pizza Stone (5956435).

Patio Bistro TRU-Infrared Electric Grill in Salsa Red is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 145.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Had an Electric Patio Bistro For Many Years... Not only have I had one for many years (ceraamic briquettes and now infrared) , I gave one to my parents who also live in a condo that does not allow combustible grilling on their lanais. I recently used a gas BBQ to grill food and found the Charbroil electric grill to retains juices better than the gas grill did - plus the gas grill blackened the poultry!! If you make this purchase, take heed of the recommendations of others (and myself) and get a nylon grill brush and the BBQ cover....makes your grill last longer. And also try to plug it into a 15 amp outdoor socket for the best grilling temperature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cannot live without it A friend bought a furnished beach condo that came with an electric grill, which he didn't want, so he gave it to us, brand new. We tried it, loved it, used it every night for the next 6 months and basically killed it (note: do not leave cord plugged in on the balcony when you live in Florida, the points get wet/corroded & stop working). So we went right out and bought the larger, Bistro 240 model and continue to use it every night. We barbecue steaks, pork chops, chicken, fish, veggies...everything. Here's a tip: You can buy a metal (iron?) vented box at the hardware store, fill it with mesquite or other flavor wood chips, pour water over it and set it on top of the grill & once the chips heat up and start to smoke a little bit, add your meat/veg & cook. Makes everything taste mui delicioso!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very happy All of our life we have wrestled with propane grills. The wife and I got to talking about buying a electric grill, and decided on this one. We purchased this grill and could not have been happier. Why did we wait so long?! This grill is compact, it's light, and easy to put together. This unit fits on our deck which is small and we have a retractable awning over the deck... the heat does not affect our roll up awning while cooking under it. Keep in mind It's just the 2 of us and don't barbeque every day. Even with smaller propane grills, we could never barbeque on the deck...until now. I believe we hit a home run with this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile, effective, and compact! We had a CB Bistro electric grill for about four years that I picked up at a big-box-store garden center end of year sale. It was intended as an occasional backup to our, ahem, four different charcoal and gas grills. The original idea was to avoid fires and smoke here in the PNW rainforest during our high forest fire risk times/burn bans. It could be easily wheeled out of our garage, with easy monitoring and access between there and the kitchen. This meant we started using it often during the rainy times of year, under the garage overhang. That led to us using it in the winter months as well. So before long its versatility and ease of use meant it was used not only more than our other grills...soon we were using it more often than our kitchen range! It heats up much faster than our conventional oven and is easier to clean. I loved using the Patio Bistro grill not only as a conventional grill but also with disposable aluminum roasting pans for non-slab-format foods, like stews, or for roasts where I wanted to retain the drippings for sauces, or even for reheating leftovers. When our little black one gave up the ghost after four years of heavy use, we didn't hesitate to replace it. We have seen many online reviews complaining that the users' Patio Bistro grill doesn't heat up enough. We had that problem at first and realized we were using an extension cord that was too small an electron pipeline. My husband replaced it with a herkier one and the grill worked exactly as advertised once enough of those little electrons could race down the cord to make infrared heat. One other thing, we use "wiggle paper" on the grate. This is a corrugated aluminum grill-cover sheet that really cuts down on the amount of grill cleaning needed. We buy those at the big box stores and cut each sheet in half. This grill is a wonderfully designed and thought out tool. We ordered our new one to have it in time to cook the Christmas roast and prawns.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Electric - a different from gas for sure I think the product is great - sick of the gas grills. Takes a lot of time to heat up which is not a problem it is just different than the old way of BBQ'n ... The steaks off this grill are absolutely delicious. I'm still learning to use the grill and I expect that grilling vegetable temp should be around 300 rather that 500 for steaks. Great sturdy product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We purchased this BBQ about 6 months ago, upon recommendation of a friend. We were tired of having to refill the propane tanks, not knowing when they were about to empty and ruin our half cooked meals. Honestly, there is no difference in the taste of the food and the convenience is outstanding. I would highly recommend this electric BBQ hands down!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm so glad we got this! I bought this for my husband for Father's Day, and we've already used it several times. We had a kettle grill for decades, but hadn't used it for the last several years because there are just the two of us, and it was too much hassle to heat it up for the minimal amount of cooking we would have used it for, plus I was concerned about safety. This small electric grill is absolutely perfect for us. We've done brats, burgers, chicken legs and chicken breasts so far - and everything was perfect - and I am an electric grilling newbie!
