Why did the control knobs lose the painted settings in less than a year, and why did the silver "plating" peel after such a short period of time.

I never used any harsh cleaners on the knobs or grill ( the strongest was windex without ammonia). The cover rotted out and I had to replace it. The replacement has now rotted and again needs to be replaced. Can a new hood and knob panel be replaced? Also, inside the lid, the paint is peeling and dangling. No matter how clean I keep my grill, as soon as I remove the cover, there are water marks and rusty colored droplets along the panel that the knobs are located on. This is a patio grill, not close to a pool, and I am very frustrated with the "cosmetic" and actual deterioration of the overall exterior. I will say that I love the way it grills, and would buy another one if I could be guaranteed that the printing on the panel where the control knobs are would remain intact and that a better cover could protect the grill, and the metal plating would not flake off. Please help.

Joli, We sincerely apologize for the issues you are experiencing with your Red and assure you we are here to help. Please contact us directly at 1-800-241-7548 so that we may look into your particular situation and see what options we have available to best assist you. We are available Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm EST and Saturday 10:00 am to 3:00 pm EST. We want to assure you that we do not paint the insides of any of our grills. The flakes you are seeing is carbon build up from normal day to day use that has accumulated inside the lid and is starting to come off. The best way to remove this is with warm soapy water (use a mild dish detergent) or a grill cleaner and a scrub brush. Once the build up has been removed rinse with water and allow to air dry. Water spots may occurr if your cover is put on while your grill is still too warm. The trapped heat can cause condensation to build up and sit on your grill until it's next use. You will want to make sure that your grill has completely cooled before covering. Here are some other helpful tips for stainless steel care. After each use, let your grill cool and then wipe the grill with a soft, damp, soapy cloth, rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth or towel. This can help prevent water spots from occurring. It is important to remove any food particles, marinades or sauces from the stainless steel surface of your grill. Most marinades are highly acidic and can damage stainless steel. Do not use steel or wire wool on your stainless steel. Always rub or wipe in the direction of the grain or polish lines in the stainless steel surface, not across them.

RED 4-Burner Stainless Steel Infrared Gas Grill is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Recent Bought... Just bought this 2 weeks ago. Very happy with the purchase. The reason I did not give this 5 stars was due to the fact that I have not owned it longer to see how it holds up with frequent use. Cooking with infrared is a bit different than normal gas grills. That said, the quality of the cook is excellent when done right. Here are the other strong points: - large cooking surface. - built in temp probe for your food. - Gas gauge that tells you what's left in the tank. - Slide out tank tray below. - Aesthetically pleasing. - Built in timers. - Included rotissary. - Easy assembly (an hour or less). - Sturdy. - Good high end heat (exceeding 600 degrees). - Dramatically easier to clean and maintain compared to standard grills. This is a huge difference. - And lastly, and a main reason I bought this grill, is that Char-Broil's customer service is outstanding. My grill came with one of the bottom doors hung about a 1/4" too high. It was visibly higher than the other door. May not seem like alot, but it was enough to bother me since it was brand new and fairly expensive. I called Char-Broil, had someone on the phone in less than 5 minutes, and they replaced the door which I received in 4 business days. All in all, for the price (I got this for less than $600), this seems to be a great grill. Time will tell how it holds up, but with periodic cleaning and proper use of a grill cover, this should last a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from RED Infrared Stainless Gas Grill/5 Burner We have had our RED since Dec. 2008 and absolutely love it. It's the best grill we have ever owned. It cooks very evenly and we have had little to no flameups even when we cook very fatty meats. However; I suggest you use a foil pan to catch grease droppings. When cooking fish and vegatables, use a separate platter on top of the grill grates. We cook chicken breast directly over the grates slowly and without a foil pan. We also use the side burner to cook the onions, peppers and mushrooms to go with our chicken fajitas. We place the cooking grid on the side burner to cook our Quesa Dillas. We have also used it for bacon, sausage and eggs. The side burner is very good to cook a large bucket of shrimp so you don't have the smell inside the house. I especially like the capability to smoke ribs for 5-6 hours without having to watch them all the time except to sprinkle wood chips ever so often, Get a temp gage to set on the grates to insure a low degree temperature at the cooking level. One point to remember when smoking: be sure to raise the grill top about 2 inches and place an object under the top to keep it from closing. This will allow the smoke to better exit the grill. Also, I suggest you use a rib rack instead of laying the ribs directly onto the grates where you have to watch it more often because of possible flare ups...if you don't use a foil drip pan. We cook steak at higher temperatures and they taste great. We clean the grill with temperatures above 600 degrees, scrape the grates, empty the pans below the grates and we're ready to go again. The only problem we have had is with the grill cover being in the sun for past 18 months. It's red color center section has really faded, but it still protects the grill. We are retired and live on the west coast of Mexico where the perfect weather allows us to use the grill year around and we do use it year around, especially from Nov through May.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love My Grill:-) I can cook up to 10 burgers and the same number of brats at the same time. The grill heats up really fast, and, cooks meat evenly. It seals in the juices of the meat, as well. I have cooked everything from veggies, to meat, and, to fish, andd everything turns out great. The side burner works really well to saute veggies, as well. I have used this at least 6 times, and still have plenty of propane left.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Save your money I've had this grill for just over 1 year and have never been more disappointed. For $1,000 i expect to get many years out of a grill. So far, the chrome has all flaked off, one of the drip trays has rusted out and burned through, and the electronic control doesn't work. The burner controls are worn out so that i have to turn the gas on and off at the tank. Sometimes the off position is at 12:00 and sometimes it's at 3:00...go figure. all of the markings have worn off. Just a cheap Home Depot grill.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not the quality I expected I have a this new model AND also a 10 year version of the Professional. Overall, you can tell this design was made for profits, not durational quality. The older model is very high quality stainless, no the paper thin version found on thsi RED model. (Maybe this is why the picture is so small on the Home Depot site). Stainless is thin as paper and will rust quickly. The heat spreader that covers the burners is a very poor design as this component is NOT made of stainless, thus will rust quickly and is not covered by the warranty. Cooking: it's a great grill for cooking! Summary: It's just too bad this model wasn't designed to last! Quality: BAD Design = GOOD,

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Big Red big Dudd I bought a big red last year. I have had the electronic controls replaced twice and the burner controls replaced one. You can't clean where there is writing with anything other than water. If you do, all the burner settings will come off. Poor paint on the stainless. The Plastic on the handles started bubbling up after just a few months. The quality for the price is just not there. I do like the way it cooks though and thaqt is the only thing. Not a good investment for the money !!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mr I have been a devotee of Infrared cooking for 4 years now and my old Red Grill was on it's last leg, I use it almost every night and it lasted for 3 1/2 years, not what I would prefer for a 1K dollar grill but in reality, it was used over 1000 times so a dollar a grilling wasn't so bad, and the flip side is the top of the line Infrared Grill topping out at 8K, no thanks. I had this same grill and when I went to Home Depot to look, I saw the new three burner one of these and it was cheaper by 300.00 so I bought it. What a mistake! The point of Infrared is to cook at a high heat and "sear" the meat and only this top of the line Red has the power to do it. I would leave the meat on and it would never "sear" even at the highest heat, and when the meat was done, it was always over-cooked and not flavorful. I had enough and bought this one online and since they don't have them in the stores, I had to assemble it myself, not a very hard process, and for that matter, when you do it yourself, you have control over how it is done, not like the "pre-assembled" ones at Home Depot that you never know who put them together and how they did. I have never been so relieved to have this top of the line back again, I cooked steaks last night and realized again why I can never go back to charcoal or regular gas grills again, there is no comparison. Just know that if you can't get this one and spend 1K then it will not be worth using Infrared, it just won't cook right and more than that, it won't taste right. There is nothing like this for any type of meat, poultry or fish, nothing at all!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's everything it said it would be. My wife bought ours for my fathers day gift. It didn't take long to set up and besides looking awesome it cooks just as good. I highly recommend this grill.
