The grill came with super-fast shipping that I havenât experienced in recent years. It took about 40 minutes to assemble it using a screw driver. Instructions Manual guided well until I got to Step-8. Manual does not talk about the technique to install the top lid stopper hook. I struggled to figure that out. I closed the top lid completely and opened the front access charcoal door and then slid the hook through that door straight into dedicated holes and that's how I did it.
The box was missing Grate Lifting Tool (Part M); I registered it and opened a case with the customer service. Missing part got shipped right away.
Grill construction is very solid and will easily last me many years. Everything that I have grilled on it came out just as I wanted. Built-in temperature gauge on the top lid is very convenient.
I find cleaning of Ash Pan very easy since it slides out completely. Grill being just the right size, fits easily in my car trunk; I look forward to use it during local picnics. When it comes to storage, it certainly takes a lot less space in my garage.
Itâs a great grill and I am happy to own it.

The grill took about 20 minutes to assemble. It wasn't difficult and the finished product feels sturdy. I was pleased with it's function--we immediately used it to roast marshmallows and it was the perfect size. There is room for a few people around it. It's also a great size to take places whether it's moving it around your yard or for a tailgate. Big enough to get a fair amount of food on it, but not so bulky that you can't easily transport it. We have a large gas grill and this is a perfect secondary grill for when we want to cook over charcoal. It would also be a great primary grill for a smaller yard.

This is one great charcoal bbq grill out there. Heavy duty, weight about 40 lbs, yet still portable. In case, I want to go out bbq at the public park, I can bring and use this, instead of using the old rusty and dirty park grill. Original price is $99, which is great. Lucky me, the day when I decided to buy, it was 20% off.
Easy to put together, I assembled it for about 45 minutes, not bad, I took my time to tighten the bolts and nuts. Only need a phillip screw driver, and a plier (to hold the nuts).
One part missing on my package, which is the grate lifter... I called the customer service. They asked me for the serial number of the grill, which is also not there. I almost frustrated. But, the customer service kindly just mail me that, without further hassle. I got the part now.
Thus, I give 5 stars, on this review. tadaa..

Installation took a bit of time, but nothing was impossible! For the Wire Stop, Lid (part L on the instructions), you might scratch your head on how to get this part on! No worries! Just turn the grill upside down, and place the wire stop in through the hole, and open the lid to make sure it locks properly. Those wire stops are essential. After you put it all together, make sure you have all the parts, because we were missing the Grate Lifter Tool (letter M on the instructions). Immediately the company sent us a replacement, which we were GRATEful for! This tool will be your best friend for, what else, lifting the grates! It has a bit of weight to it and helps with removing and placing the grates when setting up or finishing up. If you didn't have this tool, I can't think of a better tool to use for this part of the process!
The wire fire grate is genius. Just place the charcoals on this, set them on fire, and when you are done, the charcoals will dissolve to ash down into, what better place, the ash pan! You pull out the ash pan and dump it out. It's just that easy. The grill has a thermostat to let you know what your cooking temperature is at, which is cool ... I mean ... hot! We have grilled steaks and burgers on this, it is such an easy process. The grill has two holes on either side for breathing, and has two vent plates for more variable control.
This grill is about 40 pounds, so it's not light by any means. But it's not permanent either. It's quite easy for me to lift by myself, so it would definitely work for tail-gate parties! The only downside for this product would be that it didn't include a cover for the grill, nor does there seem to be one on the company's website. I have to place the grill back into the garage after each use until I can find something for it, which isn't bad.
We love this grill, and we're going to be using it for a very long time. It is so easy to use, enjoy, and clean, and the food is too good to be true!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Â by HoundHill Very substantial, well-built grill
This is our second Char-broil CB500X, after having enjoyed our first for many years. Unlike some tabletop grills that are thin and flimsy, this one is quite HEAVY (so not practical if you need something more mobile), but the advantage is that it retains and distributes heat better for more even cooking. If you like BBQ, it can also work in a pinch as a smoker grill. (Smoked a 4-lb. pork butt for 6 hours, using a combo of charcoal and wood chips, and it came out surprisingly well - no match for a real smoker, but not bad at all...and we're originally from the South.) Highly recommend.
