Insulating the pipe

Do you have to insulated the pipe before you install into your chimney because of the build up of creosote?
Asked by: Bill
Bill if you are installing this for a wood stove you should definatly insulate. Also this is a corrogated kit meaning the inside of pipe is not smooth. Creosote will build up inside the liner. A smooth wall liner is much better.

Flex-All Single-Ply 6 in. x 25 ft. Stainless Steel Pipe Chimney Liner Kit is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good product This is a good product but there's something missing. They don't sell you the insulation for this, I put one of these in my home before getting insurance. When I applied, they sent a chimney sweep to look at my chimney. He gave me a bad report because there was no insulation. This ended up in me spending a lot of extra money because of that. Long story short, search the web for ceramic wool insulation, you're gonna need it

There are four negative issues with this item: 1. the tee pictured in the advertisement appears to manufactured so that the liner can be placed inside the tee which is the preferred installation method. But, the diameter of the actual tee necessitated the placement of the liner on the outside of tee. Thus condensation can drain down the outside of the tee. 2. The screws used to secure the top plate to the liner need to be installed close toe the base of the collar because the rain cap will not fit over the mounting screws. 3. The instructions referred to several part attributes which do not exist. 4. The addition of an end cone to assist in installing the liner would be helpful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Great product, great price, Save approx $ 1500.00 $ 2,000.00 of labor charge from a general chimney sweep for approx an one to two hours worth of work...note: if u cant attempt yourself ask around, a fair install should cost around $ 500.00 or less.. Another reviewer mentioned about a tee connecting to the stove.... thats not what that is... thats the connecting tee thats for wall thimble elbow transition where it comes through wall chimney area..... People check different youtube videos on various install methods for these liners, they are very simple to do as long as you have safe access to your roof top chimney area.. Now if you are not sure about attempting this task , consult with an hvac or reputable chimney mason professional in your area etc..Remember to follow the instructions and before you do anything have the existing chimney evaluated by a mason thats geared towards building and repairing chimney's .. address any repairs needed and keep all exterior masonry waterproofed with a penetrating sealer .. That goes for all masonry " new or old ".... winter east coast cycles are very damaging and the # 1 culprit cause of deterioration .... good luck and stay safe !

Rated 4 out of 5 by from stoked (pun intended) I had the kit delivered to my local HD store, got a text when it arrived, picked it up, installed it over the span of a few hours. To hire a contractor to do this, it would have cost me three times what I paid. THANKS HD : )

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great kit BUT Great kit but PLEASE do yourself a favor and look to make certain that you need a back of the stove insert OR a top of the stove insert. This kit is specifically designed for back of the stove inserts. If yours is a top insert you need a different kit with a different appliance adapter. The T is designed ONLY for rear insert connections. I learned the hard way by having to get a different appliance adapter separately. All in all though, it's a great kit and good value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from need options the kit comes with a tee to connect to a stove, which only works if the stove has a rear exhaust. for stoves with a top exhaust, a straight connector is needed. HD does not offer that part. currently looking it up with the manufacturer. otherwise, kit is everything you need to line a chimney to a stove.
