When it came time for a new toilet seat, we brought home at least three seats available in the store that did not fit. Those seats were smaller in size and didn't cover the toilet. I found this one by searching for the toilet seat and the year my home was built. This is not made of plastic. It covers the whole toilet.

This is a quality product however, the caps that cover the screws do not stay firmly in place. They do not detach but they have to constantly be re-positioned.

Updating previous review. I called Bemis (the manufacturer) and they suggested it was defective by the way the top lid was getting out of line because of the hinge. When I took it back off, I then could see a crack in the hinge. Not shipping damage or installation damage but defective hinge.
Home Depot was good about a return and reorder with express shipping. The new one works great. I think it is a quality product and good value for the money. I like the "life off" design for when the thorough cleaning is in order.
Overall, I am pleased with this item now that I have a replacement and one that works properly.

While this is a solid toilet seat, they chose to use inexpensive zinc screws in the hinges which rust after many cleanings. I had to replace all the screws (8 per seat) with stainless steel screws on 5 toilets. I called the manufacturer and customer service said this is a known problem, but did not offer any solution. They do not offer replacement hinges.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by rrachlin Nice Product; Instructions Poor
The product is fine; delivery was prompt. My only reservation is the instructions, which are confined to a few drawings on the front of the package. This is a "twist-off" model, a nice convenience. One of the instructional drawings said NOT to remove the hinge covers from the seat assembly, which I failed to notice and observe. It took me a few tries before I realized that the hinge covers have to be ON the unit BEFORE it is attached to the plastic bolt and nut, already installed. It seemed "common sense" to me that the bolt would be installed THROUGH the seat attachments, as in conventional seats. Not so. The hinges are attached AFTER the bolt is installed. Fortunately, I was able to re-attach the hinges. What also is unclear is that the hinges must first be twisted to the left, i.e., in the unlocked position, before the seat is attached. The hinges are then twisted (with some difficulty) to the right to lock the seat into position. Once I corrected my mistakes and figured out the hinge twist, the seat was fine.
