I am stripping a cherry wood table (stained and epoxied) and it is taking 3 applications to get to the natural wood.

What am I doing wrong?
Asked by: Carol
There are times I have had to use multiple coats also. I did start putting it on heavy with a roller and let it cure longer and that seemed to help. You just don't want the stripper to dry on the wood.

Can I use it on cast aluminum engine parts? Also, can part be left to soak over night?

Asked by: Sal
I have used only on wood and concrete but if it is paint you are removing it is worth a try. This is a good product. I don't suggest leaving it over night however, I did this on the concrete and the product dried out and really didn't work well. I found your best results are following the instructions for sit times.

How do you remove it from wood it gums up

Asked by: Mick
Cover it with plastic...such as dry-cleaning bags, then use mineral spirits to wet it again if need be. Finally scrape it off with plastic scraper if on wood, or/and striping pads.

I used Citristrip on a wooden bookshelf where I applied too much water-based stain. The effect was immediate, and I was able to wipe away quite a bit of stain without even letting the gel sit on the surface for more than a few seconds. As the instructions say, it continues to work even after you've wiped away the gel, because the stain was even lighter the next day. I also used it to clean paint brushes, but be careful not to leave the brush in the gel too long, because after I left a brush in it overnight, the gel appeared to be breaking down the brush bristles and the plastic pail liner that contained it. This is powerful stuff, and yet fume-free and non-flammable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Citristrip worked like magic I saw Citristrip on you tube and found it at Home Depot. It worked great stripping off a layer of paint and the original stain on a dresser I want to repaint. I need to put more on the top and side of dresser today to get a little more off. I must not have put enough on those spots. I will finish tonight!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Use wax Paper I have used the old Methyl Chloride and it is smelly and burns, but does work. Decided to try this, since the project is indoor 1915 woodwork. It goes on well, sticks to brush and even upside down wood. A trick is to cover the work with wax paper to slow the evaporation, while waiting the 1 hr. treatment. Remove the wax paper, then use a metal scrapper, I have never had luck with plastic. The gunk comes off quickly. Washes either with water or mineral spirits. I will rate again when the work is completed and ready for finishing. It is pricey, but you get what you pay for, indoor - no fumes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4 layers of paint gone Almost all latex paint came right up had to do a second coat for a few troubled areas but they came up very easy upon second coat. Like what I read on another review do not be cheap but a good coat on it and wait the time on label and it will peel up easy. I did buy the plastic scrapper that has edges to hold paint as you scrape it up well worth the 2 dollars and change. Pleasant citrus smell not like other strippers. Did do it inside and odor and vapors were not a problem at all.. Great product would definitely recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from HORRIBLE product! Has RUINED my front door! I bought this product hoping it would speed up the removal of varnish from my front door. I carefully followed the instructions, and am left with a goopy, sticky mess that will not come off! I've tried the recommended mineral spirits to no effect. Tried acetone, turpentine, & even water - nothing removes the goopy residue, and now I can't even SAND this mess off of my door!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very effective As you can see in the photo I've included, this stuff works great (photo shows work in progress with door, shelf and drawers stripped)! I only left it on for 30-60 mins and it did the trick. I used plastic scrapers to take it off then I used rough steel wool to get the remaining stripper off followed by less-rough steel wool with mineral spirits to clean up the surface. Next I will do a light sanding before staining. I am sloppy so I did get some on my skin and it didn't irritate at all (though I did clean it off as soon as possible). It smells pretty good too. Does get pretty messy but I don't think there's any way around that when you're stripping furniture. This product exceeded my expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! I purchased an antique dining set that had heavy coats of paint and varnish. I needed a stripper that was non-caustic and no fumes because I have a tortoise and a kitten I doors. I bought the Citristrip after reading many reviews. I expected it to take many hours because of the layers. Literally within minutes all of the layers started melting away. I had the entire table stripped and cleaned within an hour. Down to the beautiful mahogany wood. I will never use anything else. Definitely a five star product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So easy I had used 2 other brands of strippers and had barely made a dent in 5-6 layers of paint. I made a call to a trusted friend, she recommended Citristrip. I was amazed how quickly the multiple layers literally pushed up! It was amazing even the areas I had already gone over with the other ones with little or no results just pushed up with the scrapper! Easy peasy. I am new to furniture refinishing but I will only be using Citristrip for my projects!
