Thanks to the flimsy doors installed by my builder I had managed to have the garage door opener literal rip the lifting bracket right off the garage door. I was in shock as the bolts went flying, narrowly missing two very expensive cars. When I inspected the damage I saw the insulated, fiberglass clad doors had only about a 1 inch high by 3 inch wide area to secure the lifting bracket and even that was some pretty thin metal. The rest of it was fiberglass with just foam underneath. I thought I had a gigantic job ahead of me and then I found the Clopay reinforcing brackets. I picked up one at my Geneva, IL Home Depot. The instructions were straight forward and it was very easily installed. It would have only taken a 9/16 socket except I had to drill one extra hole in the bracket. From purchase to completed installation was about an hour and I am confident this thing is not going to fail. It is very well made and just makes sense. I am buying one this weekend for my other garage door. I never write reviews but this product is worth a few minutes of my time to spread the word.

Came home from work last week and noticed the garage door just budged a little and didn't go up. Tried the button several times before parking the car in the driveway and going through the front door. Walked into the garage and was shocked to see the control arm hanging down with a patch of sheet metal on the end of it. It tore right off the support bracket leaving a gaping hole. I made an appointment with the garage door company but this was Friday and they couldn't come out until Monday. So I decided to poke around on the internet to see if I could find a replacement support arm bracket. I couldn't find one exactly like mine but ran across this reinforcement bracket kit from HD. It took a bit of drilling, but I was able to get it to do the job. I would recommend that everyone install this before you experience what I did. I was amazed at how thin the metal was where it was previously attached. There is no way this reinforcement bracket will ever break. It's made of heavy-duty, thick steel. It should be installed on ALL garage doors.

This is a must have for a heavy door. The bracket itself is very heavy duty - much heavier gauge than one on another door I have that was installed by a door company. It fit up well on the door and installation was easy.
Only two negative comments - I had to drill one extra hole in the new bracket to match up with the door hardware. Also, the included screws are poor quality metal. I sheared the head off of the first one I tried to use and had to tap it out. Save a trip and buy a few when you pick up the bracket, and throw away the ones in the box.

Product was easy to install and definitely will beef up the bracket that takes a lot of action in the opening and closing of the door. I am impressed with overall weight of the piece and believe this will provide a good deal of stability. I would definitely recommend the product even if you have not had to replace anything on your garage door as of yet. This will give you peace of mind that it is providing solid support.

Easy install, looks professional. Position the bracket first and hand tight screws to position. Test fit and insert the pin into bracket. The arm to the bracket needs to be adjusted. Then tighten the screws, in my case 4 screws. No drilling needed as my door was clopay. Make sure to get the Clopay spray lubricant. Lubed all moving parts, noticed less noise from the door overall. Great value. The part is available at other on line stores for seven dollars less, however I needed the part ASAP, and my store had two in stock. Called a professional garage company and they quoted $130 just to come out and charge for additional parts.
