Is this door for a low clearance double track

Asked by: bruno
I believe there is an additional kit required for low clearance.

What is the framing rough opening for a 7'×9' insulated clopay garage door?

Asked by: Riv
Riv, the rough opening dimension will vary based on the thickness of the material you use to finish the opening. We recommend the finished opening to be the same size as the Garage Door.

how well will paint stick to the door

Asked by: vette3
Latex paint works well, but recently I used Rust-oleaum Door Paint with great results on a steel door. It is sold as a satin paint, but shines quite a bit when dry which only takes a few hours. Dirt really cleans off the door nicely with this paint.

Premium Series 9 ft. x 7 ft. 6.5 R-Value Insulated White Garage Door is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Be careful to look at it closely when you pick it up The garage door was very much what I expected. However, when I opened what appeared to be the undamaged package, there was creasing on two of the four panels. I bought two of these at the same time, and there was damage on two of the four panels on the second door also. Unfortunately, I had already removed and disposed of the old door, so I had no choice but to install the slightly damaged panels. My wife also commented on the creases, so it is not something easily overlooked.

They replaced 2 doors that were about 20 years old and these are by far superior. the 3 layers system adds strength to the doors by sandwiching insulation between two layers of steel. The old doors wore out due to flexing at the top of the top two sections of the doors. I use Genie garage door openers on these doors and the pressure of the opener puts more stress on the doors and creates stress cracks in the steel. The extra layer of steel on these doors makes them flex less. I installed the extra garage door opener reinforcement brackets as I had on the old doors. Clopay also makes stress reinforcement bars that run the width of the doors to reinforce them further and I ordered one of those for each door and installed those as well. I believe those bars are meant for use in high wind areas, but work great for extra reinforcement for garage door opener use.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Would be a good value if in good condition - Buyer should inspect immediately upon pickup or delivery. My rating would probably be 4 or 5 stars if there weren't severe problems with product packaging and/or warehouse handling. I originally purchase 2 of these doors about a year ago. One of them was in a box which had been opened and resealed before I picked the doors up. When I got the doors home, I discovered that it had 2 obviously damaged panels. I reported this to Home Depot which replaced the panels. Installation went smoothly except for the fact that some hardware was missing from the box; so, I used some of the hardware from the second door and postponed installation of the second door until the next year. Unfortunately, I did not thoroughly unpack the second door at the time. Had I done so, I would have discovered severe damage to 2 panels, affecting the tongue and groove inter-panel sealing joints. This was not discovered until I started to install the second door (almost a year after I took delivery). I figured that Home Depot would not replace these panels since so much time had passed; so I just bit the bullet and purchased a third door which is the subject of this review. This door had minor cosmetic damage.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Piece of junk The center 2 brackets broke and damaged (buckled) the door after 10 months. Coply would not stand behind the warrenty. The brackets are very, very thin and will break when using a garage door opener. Compare the brackets to replacement brackets and you will see a big difference.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not bad to install, better quality than expected. I just installed this garage door this weekend. Let me start by stating that it is very important that all panels, tracks, brackets, etc., be within specifications stated by the manufacturer. If you do not meet these specs, your garage door and/or its hardware will not last. I was replacing an older garage door made by the same manufacturer; the old door was present when I bought my house. It was installed by a professional, so the measurements were right-on, but it was the cheapest model that Clopay made. With the pressure sensors of my chain driven garage door opener not working properly, I did not park my car all the way into the garage (the rear end was hanging out). The garage door closed on my trunk, and the top panel (again, of the cheaper, older door) crushed before the sensor pushed it back up. I mention this in this review, as THIS model garage door, the 2050, is far superior to their lowest price model (number 1102). My 98 lb. wife was able to move the old door panels off of the front yard when I was not looking, but the new panels, for this model 2050, are much heavier, with built in bracing inside the panels. I estimate thay they are probably 40 to 50 lbs. each. The hardware on my older Clopay garage door lasted well, which was identical to this one. They were at least 6 years old, and had no problem with them whatsoever. (I read another review where the person shared that his hinges or other hardware only lasted ten months). The rollers are made of nylon, not steel. So, you do not want to put grease in the track, as it could break down the nylon rollers. And, some other reviews have stated very quick installs. Unfortunately, I believed them before i started working on this project. The truth of the matter is that with me and my friend doing the install, both very capable, mechanical people, it took 5 hours. That includes removing the old garage door, with its tracks, and installing this one soup to nuts, attaching it to my existing opener (that part took only 5 minutes). The manual states that it will take two people 9 to 12 hours. One person could do the install with a little mechanical creativity, as long as he/she had someone to help them get the packaged/unbuilt door into their truck/trailer. One could later open the box at home and take out the panels and hardware one by one without much difficulty, as long as he/she could lift the weight of one panel (around 40-50 lbs., as I said). I cannot imagine any one person taking any less than 5 hours on this project, however, as the two of us did it in 5 hours. And, very important, this garage door does not come with any track hangers needed to hang the end of the track to your garage's framing/celing. So, if you are building this from scratch (not replacing an older track driven door), make sure that you buy the punched/perforated angle iron with some nuts and bolts needed to do this install. If you do not buy the angle irons independently, you can find it on HD's website, titled : Clopay Rear Track Hanger Kit, currently model number 4125478.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from skip the handles Installation was good except for the plastic handles. You have to drill through the door sections to install them. I followed their instructions for exactly where to drill, but I hit a long screw in the middle of the door (that's holding the bottom seal strip on), which sent the drill bit off center. the hidden metal plate inside the door also detached while i was drilling through it and started spinning with the drill bit, chewing up the insulation and preventing me from driling through it, making me have to monkey the attachment of the handle. Between the two obstructions, the handle is crooked and weak. I didnt bother putting on the other handle (in the second section up) since I have an opener anyway. so skip both handles if you wont NEED them. Also, if your side clearance is close to the minimum required, put the rollers in the hinges BEFORE you nail the sections in place...putting the rollers in according to the instructions doesn't work if you only have the minimum clearance. Door is fairly quiet, except the center hinges make loud creaking noises as they pivot, and the moving pulleys scrape against the track (I have the low headroom double-track kit, which is way overpriced...definitely a "gotcha" item). Might be worth it to grease the hinges before installing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Tougher than it should have been... I have owned a hoyse and per formed most home repais for 25 years. The replacement of a garage door should not have been so frustrating. A new installation would have been easy compared to replacement. 16 hours it is done. 1. Instructions loacated between panels...why not at end of box? 2. No reason to attach cables on first panel so early...wait until ready to install springs. 3. Garage door opener not form a brace from your own angle iron...wait until one of last steps and use one in box. 4. Instruction pictures are poor at best 5. Track will be angled top to bottom and not perfectly mention in instructions. 6. Packaging panel dented on back side from straps....did not notice until door was hung...too late. 7. Installer should have some basic home repair skills before attempting.
