Customer Questions & Answers

Are there clips with wider hole for a thicker shelf?

What does the 1 inch refer to? My ventilated wall unit has some retainer clips broken off so it is sort of hanging away from the drywall. I got some clips at Home Depot to reinforce the shelf but the shelf (wire) was too thick to slip into the hole of the clip. I could not pry the clip open far enough to slip in my shelf. Are there different sizes of clips? The clips on my shelf look exactly like these, but clips need to be wider (open wider) so the shelf can slip into the hole/hook of the clip.

I have the same problem. The clip we want is the one that comes with the pole that is wider. The smaller one goes to the wall. The wider in the pole. Depending on how many shelves you want, the pole doesn't come with enough clips and I still didn't find them separated from the pole. Model # 1009 Internet # 100113297 Store # 371202

what size holes do I drill in the drywall in order to anchor the rack and hang track? I bought all my hardware yesterday at Deerfield Beac, FL HomeDep

Asked by: Chuck
1 in. White Wall Clip Set for Ventilated Wire Shelving are for installing our shelving with fixed mount brackets. A hang track is not required since these clips are the ones that secure the wire shelf to the wall. Drill 1/4” holes through wall to secure the gray anchor in.

Measured, leveled, marked the wall, drill holes, insert mollies, screwed hanger to the mollies in the wall. Very solid. Snapped the shelf on. Instructions were clear. However I had to used a magnifying glass to read the instructions because the font was too small.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product that is easy to install. These fasteners are not made to be installed into studs. I made sure with a stud finder that I would miss any studs and still have the fasteners equally spaced. I installed 4' X 16" ClosetMaid shelves using these fasteners and my finished project received rave reviews from from my wife. It was an easy job for an amatuer installer like me. Life is good.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from modify the system!! I recently bought a house with wire shelving prehung. the system used the preloaded back clips and in the early morning, the preloaded clips gave way and my wife's belongings came crashing down. I have not read all the directions, but it seems that maybe these are advertised as, ok to hang in drywall alone. I don't ever trust that kind of setup. I put the shelving back up, using the slightly more expensive white wall clips, but I used wood screws and attached them to studs. I also attached the support brackets to studs. these shelves aren't going anywhere now. the other downside is that when you take these 'preloaded' wall clips outs, they leave huge holes in the walls!! good luck with this stuff. my advice, always hang from studs!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Installing into the stud has solved my problem! My wire shelves were installed w/ these clips and they fell when I put too many things on them. That wasn't working for me. I bought some longer screws and took down the shelves and predrilled into the studs and then screwed the same clips up on the wall. Now I can swing on the shelf! I don't understand why that hasn't worked in some of the reviews I've read. I'm buying some more clips and shelves to put up.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolute junk, will eventually bend and fail They work well now, but in 4-5 years these clips will fail. Most likely in the middle of the night, dropping everything on the shelf to the ground. Search online and you will find similar experiences. Why Closetmaid would continue creating liability for itself by not making these metal is beyond me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor design and quality This was in my closet. They are not designed to hit a stud. The nails are slick absolutely too short IF you wanted to hit a stud. When they pull out, they leave HUGE holes in your sheetrock. Not recommended..EVER. If you are building a closet, use hardware that will hit a stud. Use plenty of hardware so when you are done, you will never have any issues. Unless you want to rebuild your closet...again.
