Support brackets for sloped ceilings

I would like to install your wire shelving in my second floor bedroom and office closets. In all three of these closets, the ceilings walls follow the roof line of the house. The angle of the ceiling as it meets the wall is 135 degrees. (See attached photos.) What is the best way to brace a 12" shelf, for closets that are around 8' in length?

how many wire shelving support brackets do we need for a 6' X 16" shelf

Asked by: PabloB
The ClosetMaid 16 in. Shelving Support Bracket attaches to the wall and to the front area of the shelf to support 16 in. deep shelving. Install one bracket every 36 in. and at each end of shelf. So, 3 would be needed for a 6 ft. shelf.

16 in. Wire Shelving Support Bracket is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sturdy Bracket I purchased 3 of these for a 66" shelf in my garage. Easy to assemble, but I made 1 modification: instead of using the nail provided in the packaging where the bracket meets the wall, I substituted a screw. At first I used the nail but found that the bracket was not as stable as I wanted it to be. Switched to a similar sized screw, and it worked great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bracket for supporting 16" wire shelves Closet wire shelves come in different sizes and brands. Installation hardwares are usually interchangeable for 12" shelves but not 16" one. Some 16" deep shelves can use the brackets for 12" shelves attaching to an internal wire. Others you have to get a bracket specific for 16" shelves like this one. I was installing 2 pieces of 16" deep shelves in L shape in the laundry room and found one of the shelf I pulled out from a closet requires this 16" shelf bracket (~19" in length). The other 16" shelf can use the brackets for 12" shelves that I got in a kit for closet shelf installation and is also by Closemaid. For closet shelf installation, you need wall anchor(s) where the shelf ends at the wall, wall clips to hold the back of the shelf to the wall, and brackets like this to support the middle or the free hanging end of the shelf. This bracket basically attached to the front end of a 16" deep wire shelf and anchor to the wall at around 10" below the shelf vertically. It works as described if you install this every 3 feet or less, and multiple wall clips at less than 12" interval. The wall clips alone, when spaced properly, can hold the weight of the empty shelf and should be installed first. Then the wall anchor for holding the end of the shelf (if applicable) should be installed next, and these brackets would be the last step. I really don't see any reason people would complain about this product as this is quite standard and has been in the market since closet wire shelf was born.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not for 12" shelves These are actually 18" long, and meant for 16" shelves. If you want 16" brackets (for 12" shelves), then you need to order the 12" shelving support bracket.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from dumbest thing ever The hardware provided with bracket had wall insert and nail. The nail head was too small (or the hole in bracket was too big) and the nail easily slipped thru the hole. I used screw (not provided) to firmly attach bracket to the wall.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor design A very strange poor design. It braces the shelf away from the wall but not vertically. The result is that if the shelf is loaded it is too easy for it to slip off and let the shelf fall. Which mine did, disastrously! Since they seem to offer no alternative design I am bending it so that is isn't able to slip off. But that is a poor way to have to deal with a product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from ClosetMaid shelf support First off, please note that the model number and the part number are identical. This is not the case with all HD items, and it sometimes leads to confusion. To avoid this confusion, I keep a list in a little notebook of both model and part numbers of the things I purchase at HD, and when i find they are identical, I only write it once for both, or maybe I scribble a little "ditto" next to the first entry. This item is a shelf support. Its description matches precisely its intended function, but it should be noted it could support any number of shelf-like items near a wall. In this sense it is polyfunctional hardware. Items fitting this class I note in the back of that little notebook, and I like to read the list, thinking of all the unexpected things I can do with these items repurposed. The name of this item disturbs me a little. What is "ClosetMaid"? Is that kinda hinckey? But the item itself is da bomb. It really supports the shelf. And I mean it SUPPORTS. Whoo boy does it.
