Customer Questions & Answers

how many drawers can you put in ? 3 or 4??

Asked by: Anonymous
Since the two middle shelves are removable/ adjustable you should be able to put 4 drawers in the unit providing the drawers are 9"/10" high drawers. If you get deeper drawers or baskets, then you should only be able to put in 3 drawers. You would remove the adjustable shelves and put in rails for the drawers. That would leave you shelves to put in another unit somewhere. Here is a link to the installation instructions for the drawers. At the bottom it shows the placement for brackets for multiple drawers. Hope this answers your question. Good Luck!

Deluxe 4 Shelf Organizer

You make this in Dark Cherry but I want it in Walnut. You make the drawer for the Deluxe in Walnut why not the Deluxe 4-Shelf Organizer. I spoke to ClosetMaid and they said they make it in walnut for Home Depot. It seams it was not listed by mistake. Thanks Dan
Asked by: DanD513
We do no make a 4 shelf organizer in Walnut. You could purchase a deluxe tower and use the top half separately from the bottom half and this would give you 1 - Deluxe 4 Shelf Organizer and 1 - Standard 4 Shelf Organizer.

Can this unit be stacked on top of each other?

I want to buy two of these units and stack them on top of each other. My closet height is more than enough to accomodate them. My concern is, if that is possible and safe?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, they can be stacked. There are holes in the top and bottom of each unit that allow pegs to be inserted so you can stack them. Just need to be sure to affix both units to the wall per the instructions, or they may tip if someone pulls on them.

The packaging was superb--it arrived in PERFECT condition.. it's not 'hard' to assemble in one sense, but requires a great deal of consentration to get it right, nonetheless ! I would not advise I'll tempered or impatient folk to try this themselves! Very sturdy --which is why I paid more!

The veneer is paper thin and pulls away from the soft, underlying fiber-board easily. Mine had to holes chunked out of the top. This is just after assembling. It's going into a closet so I won't be able to see it, but if it were going to be on display I would return it immediately.

Always support all assembling on the floor on the Cardboard it came in. >> USE GLUE WHEN SPECIFIED. Keep a wet cloth nearby to wipe up the excess glue when it shows up, since the ooze when it dries can cause a misalignment of the the parts.. >> This is a delicate assembly, be sure that all parts are supported securely. >> I use a pair of clamping corner squares to support any right or left angled parts I'm adding to the assembly for strength while assembling. >> Even when fully assembled it is not STURDY until the rear panel is Secured and nailed down. >> Make sure the Rear panel is nailed down (YES, there is a top and bottom embossed in the panel for orientation and placement of nails). >> Always secure the finished unit to wall at the top of the unit to make safe for when you start pulling out heavy drawers, tipping it over on your self! >> This can usually be done by cutting a hole in the backboard and mounting it out of sight. If you cannot find a wall stud, use a Heavy Duty Wall Molly. >> When aligning two or more units assembled side by side, make sure you run a 3/16 drill in two or three pair of unused shelf positions through the CORRESPONDING SHELF hole on the other unit Apply glue to the entire 3/16 dia x 1.5 In long wooden dowel. Tap in the dowel into the hole you have drilled, ensuring you have inserted it through through the same shelf hole in opposing units. This will line up the units and clamp them nice and closely together. Do this for the corresponding shelf hole in the back, and you will have a extremely stable and aligned set of units. Then go buy a MinWax Filler And Stain Stick, Red or Dark Mahogany for filling and Staining hide the dowel ends and the occasional OOPS!. All the best, and remember, "A good job is a job done right, because you'll always remember where you mistakes are!" I mounted four casters to each on mine so they would move easily on the carpet. You'll have to figure this out yourself since the bottom panel WILL NOT hold the casters (if you use them) and weight alone. >> Cut a piece of HARDWOOD to insert into the bottom against the Press board and use 8 screws (2 to each side. >> PREDRILL the holes to 1.0 mm smaller than the diameter of the screw you use (must be less the .25 inches diameter, chamfer the hole on the hardwood panel you added, so they insert flat with the unit's wood and use your Red Mahogany Pen to cover them up. At that point you will have an ultra stable and scratch-free unit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Might have been good... ...but there were so many chips, dents, scratches, etc....that it really mars the look of the thing. Also, the cam thingies did not line up with the bolt/screw thingies. One piece of trim is hanging by the top fastener only because that's the only one that fit. Very difficult to square up because the cams would rip out due to badly drilled holes if they were moved at all. I gave it three stars because maybe I just got a bad one and others might be better made.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I built and entire walk in closet with this product line, this was just the last piece. I LOVE it! It took me some time to figure out which pieces I wanted and how to make them work, but it's because my closet is an odd shape. I had to buy this last piece because there were no 'extra shelves' available, but even though I paid for the whole piece, I thought it was a great value for the shelves I used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nicest DIY Cabinetry, not just for closets I bought a lot of these units in order to make two entertainment centers for two teenager bedrooms. I used the deeper units, connected side-by-side, on the bottom and added drawers. Then shallow units with shelves on top of the end units. A TV is mounted on the wall between the two end upper units. I didn't want the cost of a custom unit, so I decided to go with this. Plus, I knew if I built one myself, I'd never get around to it. The construction is some sort of fiber board covered with a wood grain. But unlike other brands and other models of this brand, the wood grain looks great, real, and seems to be real wood veneer. It's easy to assemble. (I just recommend installing the drawer slides prior to assembling the cabinet, if you are using drawers. This way, you won't need to climb inside to install drawer slides.) These units have molding on both the sides and top edge. This not only dresses it up but makes it stronger. This is much better than similar cabinets that go together the same way but lack molding. Use clamps to hold two adjacent units together as you put screws behind the side molding to lock two units together. This eliminates gaps. Units become very sturdy when you put the moldings on and secure to the wall. There are only two downsides from this compared to a high end custom solid wood unit: When you add drawers, there is a small gap between each drawer and the side of the unit (the molding) which lets the drawer slides show a bit. And, a custom unit would have a one-piece countertop, compared to there being a seam/line where two of these units are put side-by-side. But in my opinion, this is not a big deal. Great for kids rooms, basement entertainment units, lofts, and of course closets. Perhaps even for a unit in the main living area if you don't mind the drawer slides showing a little and you don't want the expense of a custom unit. We are thinking of getting more to put in our loft to make a home office.
