Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great finishing accessory for your closet organizer! This can be cut to size. Recommend you tape the cut line with painters tape so the thin finish stays clean. January 12, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice alternative to expensive custom closet! I didn't have a ton of money to spend, but needed to shelve a 6 X 7 walk-in closet... I bought two of the tower kits with closet rods that extend to either side for the 7 foot walls and bought 5 of the top shelves to go around the top of the the three walls so as you walk in, it looks like a custom closet. I've had lots of compliments on it. NOTE: I had a handyman do the installation so not sure if is easy to install or not. (This photo is the left side of the closet and opposite wall is the same with a shelf across the top of the back wall as well.) November 4, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Beware! NOT 48 in. as stated! All the descriptions on this item state that it is 48 inches long EXCEPT the description on the outside of the box which provides its actual length of 47.72 inches. When planning that layout of my closet I was counting on the advertised 48 inch description being accurate. Well, it is not. I will need to do some "fudging" to make this extend the distance. Something I'm not too happy about. Otherwise, I really like the look and functionality of the ClosetMaid product. May 19, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This product is excellent This is a great product. You will want to buy this product to complete your ClosetMaid Kit for your closet project. It gives the closet a more finished and refined look as well as provides storage over your hanging clothes. They give you all the hardware to put it up with which makes it extra sturdy for your storage needs. The shelf is 48 in long, but can easily be cut if you need to make it smaller. We used 9 for our closet project and I would definitely recommend spending the extra money to get this. October 19, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by They do the job. Pay attention and don't make mistakes I did! I bought 3 of these shelves to go with the ClosetMaid Impressions 16 in. Dark Cherry Narrow Closet Kit which I reviewed on separately. These shelves -- which should have been the easiest part -- were actually the only place I had an installation mis-step in the whole process and I actually had TWO missteps! I think the price is a little high in relation to the tower cost. 3 of these shelves cost more than half of the tower kit. That seems a bit out of proportion, but overall not terrible. Shipping time was good. I was glad I was home during delivery so they could drop it off in the garage. I got two tower kits and 6 shelves so it was super super heavy, so I would not have been able to drag it inside myself. The outer H.D. packaging was not great for such heavy products, but fortunately the closet maid product packaging was tough and there was no product damage. First of all, not related to my mis-steps, but the instructions and pictures were not clear at all. There are a few possible shelf configurations based on your design and they made it quite confusing trying to address all possibilities in the least amount of words and pictures possible! The fact that each instruction page has 3 languages is cumbersome and annoying. Secondly, the brackets are ugly and highly visible. Afterwards I realized I didn't need the middle back bracket which is the most visible. I think a bracket on each end would have been just fine. I left it out off the third shelf (33") and it is totally sturdy. Perhaps on a maximum width shelf, that would not be the case. Thirdly, I decided to do the steps a little out of order because I wanted to get the brackets installed prior to getting the shelves cut (at a friends at a to-be-determined date). While installing the tower, I had all my equipment handy and it was just easier to get the job 99% completed and cleaned up so I would merely have the little screws to attach to the brackets at the very end. I just measured super carefully when installing the back bracket to the wall instead of to the shelf. Worked out fine. Tip: I used the thick cardboard packing as my shelf template and that worked out great. The cardboard was also handy for the actual cutting of the shelf too. Mis-step #1: I installed the shelf and attached it to the brackets with the dowels pointing up instead of down. By that time, I was so excited to be at the end of this process and get my clothes set up, I just wasn't thinking completely and did not refer to the instructions any more. At least the extra set of holes are on the top and are not visible (unless the shelves are empty and you are 7' tall!) Mis-step #2: When they say to be sure the dowel holes are aligned when cutting the shelf and the trim piece, it is *CRITICAL* that the trim piece is oriented in the same direction as it would be installed when making that alignment. My friend who did the cuts for me lined up the holes perfectly, but in one case, it was turned around the wrong way. Not a huge deal though. I could easily drill out new holes where they needed to be. Another thing is that it was a bit of guesswork determining rod placement on the tower and knowing precisely where the shelves were going to go. My shelf configuration was not shown in any pictures so I was kinda on my own guessing on the optimum placements. Luckily it all worked out perfectly. My extra shelf is at exactly the right height for those fabric foldup bins they sell. If I knew I was going to use that ahead of time, I would have factored that in without having to guess. I am going to try to attach a photo to this review. If I do, FYI the screws for the rod bracket (on the left of the tower below the extra shelf) are at 16.5" from the top of the tower. Overall, I love my new closet and can't wait to repeat it on the other side for the 2nd closet. Sadly, this house did not come with a walk-in closet, so these tower systems are really necessary to maximize space. November 26, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Additional shelving Recommend with reservations. Pro: goes well with closet kit and drawers; adds additional shelving above rods. Con: only comes in 48 inch width, which wasn't clear, so one must have a table saw or some heavy-duty cutting device to shorten these shelves. They can be cut to fit, but very carefully, so cherry finish over the pressboard is not harmed. October 13, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Know what you're getting into The shelf is 48 inches. You will have the luck of the lottery if your shelf comes in exactly that size. So be prepared to cut it. The instructions barely mention "sizing" the shelf. There should be a whole section on how. I tried a jigsaw with a laminate blade and had moderate success. Cutting a veneer with a jigsaw or table saw with the proper blade will cut one side nicely, but the other side will have bite marks from the blade. On the third shelf, I used a hacksaw and a coping saw with fine-toothed blades. Plus, I taped the cut line for extra protection against bite marks. That method worked best for both sides. Another problem not addressed in the instructions is if you hit a stud when you're drilling holes for the brackets. It assumes you won't. Well, if you do, and drill all the way in, then your anchor has nothing to grip and your hole is too big for the screw only. Test for studs before you drill. If you know these things going in, then you're much better off than relying on the uninformative instructions. June 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Shelves provide a nice finished look! The top shelves provide a great finished look to the closet. Can be cut to fit. Very sturdy using the supplied brackets. When using a circular saw, cut so visible edge is on the bottom, use painters tape to keep from splintering. July 29, 2015
