Answer:
Yes, it can be cut to any length you wish. If you can use heavy gauge wire cutters, that might be the way to go. You may also use a metal cutting saw, so as not to leave any sharp ends,
Good luck!

Answer:
Definitely! That's the beauty of ClosetMaid wire shelving - it can be fit lengthwise to your space. You may cut it yourself with a basic hacksaw, but even better, your local Home Depot store will cut it for you provided you have exact measurements. We offer the shelves in a variety of lengths already, so choose the one closest to the length you need.

If you're going to use the washer head screws that Home Depot recommends, you'll need a star drive bit for driving the screws into the wall using an electric drill. The washer head screws are 2 1/2 inches to 3 inches long so an electric drill is essential. These are not Torx drive, square drive, slotted or Phillips screws and none of those drive bits will work in the star drive. Read Less

I'm sorry that your closet fell down! That's not a pleasant situation.
When installing the hardware to keep the closet up ( I used Model # 15418) make SURE you are screwing the hardware into a STUD in the wall.
I hope this helps!

Do you HAVE to use the hang track with installation?

We are looking to use the max load system (standards, wire shelves, brackets) in an irregularly shaped closet that doesn't allow for anchors on the left or right walls.

Can we just use the standards and brackets?

Answer:
I had no problem using these without the hang track... it seemed like a gimmick since you want to anchor these vertical standards in the studs anyway. the only trick is keeping them all level to each other - i used a long level to draw a line at the top to drill for the first screw of each one.

Maximum Load 72 in. W x 16 in. D Silver Ventilated Wire Shelf is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product last year when it was half the price I used this system in my garage last year and it is holding up really well with heavy stuff on it. However the price in Oct 2015 for this exact sku 73571 was $21.97 (I'm looking at the old printout). Now it's $50 + ??!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Holds Up I just hung one of these shelves in my garage for storing boxes of seasonal decoration that ended up being surprisingly heavy. The rail that holds the standards the shelf supports attach to hangs very similar to other garage storage and organization systems. I already have a Rubbermaid organization system installed in my garage, but would have needed another rail to add shelves and the closetmaid unit was available in my local store. But make no mistake, this shelf system is not cheap to install if you don't cut corners! A single shelf requires 5 standards, 5 shelf supports, a rail and the shelf. You will also need drywall anchors if your standards, like mine, do not align with the studs where you want the shelf. Adding a second shelf once you have the rail and standards makes the installation a much better value, however we wanted the shelf to be high enough that we could walk under it, so only put in one shelf. I absolutely am blown away by the strength of this shelf. Every component feels rock solid and when installed 16" apart the supports hold the shelf in place with absolutely no bending or play in the structure. I did hang the rail across 5 studs and put 75lb drywall anchors in the holes between, and also used two 75lb drywall anchors in each standard to ensure they were absolutely rigid. Once installed, I hung all of my 250+ lbs from the shelf to confirm its strength, and have absolutely no doubt that the shelf could support two people of my size hanging from it at the same time. While not cheap, it is a great looking way to add storage space in otherwise unused space on the wall of your garage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great Bought this shelf along with 4 tracks and 4 brackets. Mounted the tracks directly into the wall studs. With the amount of support I put up, the shelf holds quite a bit of weight without sagging at all. I have several of these shelving systems in my house and would highly recommend them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used for 3 foot wide pantry closet. These shelves did a much better job of holding the heavier load. I got the shelves designed to hold less at the first, but they sagged somewhat with the load on them. Still, even with the short 3 foot width, I wanted to make sure there would be no problems later on, so I put an angle brace to shore up the middle of the shelves and am quite satisfied with the results. I guess I could have shored up the other shelves that way also, but I have another place to use them with a lighter load now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy, easy to put up Even though my need for shelves was in the garage, I was looking for something nicer/different than than standard white wire shelving. These fit the bill perfectly - the nickel coated hardware and matching gray shelves look very different than the white variety. Reasonably easy to put up (needed a stud finder and a laser level) and very sturdy (I followed the 16" spacing recommendation)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great shelf, but the color description is misleading The shelf works well and is strong as described, but including the word "chrome" in the color description is misleading because it is vinyl covered and is not "chrome". Other closetmaid shelves describe the color as "nickel", but they do not have a nickel finish, but a vinyl finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for showing off collectibles The shelf is pretty wide and LONG, and it holds my collectibles VERY nicely. I does have "slats" for airflow, and I'm perfectly fine with that! This shelf is also paintable to blend in to your decor!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Quality Very strong construction. Good quality. Made my garage more organized.
