Customer Questions & Answers

How are the clips anchored to the drywall, what is the purpose of the nails.

I do not understand how the clips are anchored. I could see if there were screws that are screwed into the anchors like a typical wall anchor . They would spread and the anchor would be secure. Please clariry. Perhaps I should use a different type of shelf anchor. Thank you Harmony Herb
This is the same concept as you were referring to. Once you push the plastic anchor into the drilled hole, you push in the metal pin so that the back end of the anchor spreads apart to secure itself to the wall.

I have one back wall clip that falls on a metal stud, what can I use instead? These won't go into the wall.

what is the load capacity?

I am planning on installing a 3 ft shelf, with at least one screw in a stud
Asked by: cvs
The weight capacity is highly dependent on the installation itself, which we cannot control. However, below is a summary of recommended safe weight loads when the load is evenly distributed across the shelf and when the shelving is installed per the manufacturer’s instructions/specifications with ClosetMaid branded installation hardware. For Fixed Mount Installation Method using ClosetMaid support poles, wall clips and end brackets: it will vary depending on the type of shelving you are using but can range between 25lbs to 35 lbs per linear foot.

I can't find Closetmaid wall clips to replace the broken ones supporting my closet shelf. Has the circumference of the wire clips changed since 1994?

I need to replace wall clips or anchors that are broken and no longer support the shelf on my Closetmaid shelf system installed around 1994. Rather than replace the shelf I was hoping to just find replacement clips. The two packages that I bought at Home Depot...the preloaded ones with the wall anchor attached and the unattached kind don't seem to fit the wire on my shelf. Could it be that the circumference of the wire has changed since 1994?. Even when I try to press the wire into the clip, it just doesn't fit. I am certain it's a Closetmaid system because the front bracket says Closetmaid on it. Any thoughts? Do I just need to buy a new shelf?

We haven't changed the size of the wire, but maybe a different kind of clip is needed now . Try this one: These require more wall screws but will definitely hold things in place. Sort of a U shape with wings if that makes sense. Try them, and if they don't work, definitely return them to the store. There is a 12 pack available -- the link is for the 48 pack.. Let us know how these work out!

Depending on the shelf size and weight, you just need to determine how many you need to distribute the weight over them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from horrible design These hare horrible. I they do not stay in the wall and the nail is just a dumb design. If they woud have a screw they would be 10 times better

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Clips will not attach to the older wire shelving (.25in dia) will probably work if shelving is made with .20 in dia wire. Clips are made for shelving with wire diameter (.20 in dia) smaller than their old shelving (.25 in dia). Impossible to clip on the older shelving. If you do force it on , the clips will probably break later do to being stressed by forcing it on.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ticking Time Bombs After a few years they get brittle and fail, dumping whatever is on the shelf on to the floor. The hooks should be made of metal.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Expensive to replace The builder put these shelves in but the spaces are too small to easily use the hangers that I like. When I started to remove them, it became obvious that this is a project that would require tearing up the drywall, having it repaired, and painted before I could put in shelves that are appropriate for the laundry room. Now I am stuck with shelves that annoy me every time I do laundry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worked perfectly couldn't get much easier than this. The frig/freezer that came with the house didn't have a shelf. All we cold do is pile stuff into freezer. Bought a white wire shelf, cut down to fit, drilled holes, stuck hooks in without nails, laid the shelf on the hooks.
