Customer Questions & Answers

Can I use 3 of the 10 in drawers and 2 of the 5 inch drawers on the unit, for a total of 5 drawers?

Asked by: Anonymous
It is not recommended that you install 5 drawers as described due to the floor clearance needed to accommodate various types of carpeting. Depending upon your storage needs, install either 3-10 in. drawers or 2-10 in. drawers and 2-5 in. drawers.

Are the two shelves adjustable as to their position within the unit?

I want to have the lower shelf 17" above the floor. I see holes on the inside surface of the vertical boards, hence my question. This is to allow a litter box on the floor under the lower shelf (in a miniscule area that passes for a kitchen in a retirement home - there's no other place to put the litter box and I want to place a microwave or toaster oven on the top shelf. Is this feasible with this unit? Thank you for your help.
Asked by: Kalie
There is actually only one adjustable shelf which is the one in the center.

What is the minimum length standard required to hang the organizer?

Can they be cut to length with a hacksaw? Also can the hang tracks and standards be cut so that they are not visible and hidden behind the organizer?
Asked by: Joe
The assembled organizer is 25 in. wide and 41.5 inches tall, so the standards would need to be greater than 42 inches. And yes, the hang track and standards can be cut down to the point where the cabinet is attached to the standard. To mount with ShelfTrack, you'll need ClosetMaid Selectives 5 in. White ShelfTrack Bracket Kit (Model # 7039 Internet #00597839 Store SKU # 227303) that is sold separately. Check your local store for availability.

Selectives 14.5 in. x 41.5 in. x 25 in. 3-Shelf White Stackable Organizer is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed Had a difficult time putting these together. Pre-drilled holes were not sturdy and slightly damaged. Tried putting these together by myself and found the process hard to do because the pressed wood was extremely heavy and hard to work with. One of the stackable fell apart and was completely destroyed. I ended up throwing it away since it was shattered. Would not recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great organizer! This product had clear directions, came in perfect condition and was easy to assemble. It did crack the white covering slightly when tightening a cam lock but that is covered by the stuff I put on the shelf! I love the adjustable shelves and stackability. Will probably purchase more for my bedroom closet!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Closet Maid I suggest spending the $5.00 for the suggested plan overview. It will make assembly a lot easier. Make sure you give them the exact measurement of your space. The pieces and parts are standard sizes and you have to cut them to fit. Overall the product is better than the competition's

Basically what you're buying is plywood with a laminate veneer finish. Once the units are bolted together and fastened to the wall, they are pretty solid. You probably wouldn't want to put more than 50 pounds on each shelf though. You'd run the risk of ripping out one of the screw in shelf points with any more than that. I really like Closetmaid's drawers that fit these shelves. The ball bearing glides operate very smoothly and seat well. The swinging door sets are okay, but can be a pain to adjust. The instructions aren't very good on showing how to adjusting the gap between the two hung doors. The screw that has the reverse threading acts as a stand off that pushes the doors inwards together. When looking at it, the stand off appears to serve a different function of pulling the brackets together when tightened. I have about 20 of these drawers in total, and haven't had a single issue with them. The drawers are quite sturdy as well. I've used spring loaded drawer spacers for over two years, and none of them have shown any signs of bowing. The bottoms are fairly heavy duty as well. What I don't like is ClosetMaid doesn't sell additional shelves for these units. I wrote to them and asked, and they said it isn't an option. So I had extra bottom 'shelves' since I was installing drawers in units. These extra wide support shelves extend all the way to the face of the shelf box, which prevents the cupboard doors from sitting flush. So I took these shelves to the table saw and cut them down to 13.75", then bought a heat activated laminate to adhere to the cut face. This worked extremely well and gave me the additional shelving I needed for a pantry project in my mudroom. I guess you could make your own shelving, but you'd have to find a different shelf attachment method. I think ClosetMaid should sell bracing supports for the shelves to offer additional stability. These units could attach to holes beneath your shelf and provide bracing support so the load isn't held by the four peg screw system. ClosetMaid should predrill holes to attach multiple units together. I highly recommend screwing these units together for additional strength. Use upgraded drywall screws, or better yet screw directly to studs when possible to increase the rigidity of your assembly. You can also modify these systems to fit your needs. I'm taking some of these boxes to the table saw to shorten them since my walk in closet has a sloped roof that won't quite fit two of these units stacked. These units don't seem overly expensive until you start adding all the options and accessories. Before you know it, your little project will be approaching a thousand bucks. You'll probably be making multiple trips back to the store to buy additional sections. The end results are nice. Having drawer sets physically bolted to the wall is a lot safer than most dressers. Chances of these units tipping over on your kids are a lot lower if installed properly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than I thought I was nervous to buy this item after reading the other review that said it "collapsed like a house of cards." I put this item together by myself (much to my husband's surprise) and, once everything was properly put together, it was plenty stable. I stacked a second unit on top and secured both to the wall with the provided L brackets. I live in LA and suppose it might not hold up in a big enough earthquake, but for everyday use, it's perfect for some extra shelving in our guestroom closet. I never write reviews, but I thought someone who had a better experience should let people know so they don't rule out this item.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy ti install I purchased 2 of the 3 shelf units, a 25" tower and 3 drawers. I was able to install them by myself except for stacking the units. I used anchor screws to attach firmly to the side wall and back of the closet. They are very secure. The drawers were easier to install than I had feared and look nice. I got some extra shelves and cut them to size - 3 shelves are not enough since one is the top. I got white and a few of the corners were chipped. Not an issue since I could make them the back or the bottom. All in all I like them. They add lots of storage space in a small guest room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great and affordable I was pleasantly surprised by the Closetmaid Selectives products once the entire system was constructed. It is very sturdy if you anchor the pieces correctly and I thought the instructions were very thorough. It can seem a little flimsy at first, but once the gussets are attached and the systems are anchored and stacked, they're shockingly sturdy. I cut some of the top shelf pieces using a skillsaw and I would suggest removing trim if you have it (or cut around it), so the system can be flush against the wall. Helpful tools to have: A very small drill bit for the starts for the anchors, rubber mallet for the cam locks and definitely a level!
