Answer:
It has stabilizing heavy paper corners that helps to keep it steady, but if you don't have it against a wall then I suggest placing the end shelf at the top and bottom shelf 3 or 4 inches from the bottom. That should be OKay

It needs to be attached to the wall. It is really tall, so, for your peace of mind - and safety's sake, anchor it. I only attached 2 of the 4 suggested brackets. That should do - unless you are in earthquake country.

Answer:
It is built as two separate shelving units, then you stack them atop each other. I found this to be a particularly helpful feature when inserting the unit in the closet, as I did not end up bumping against the closet opening as I would have had it been one tall piece.

Jake - All of our tall units such as this one are two units stacked. Each contains two fixed shelves and one adjustable shelf. The placement of one of the fixed shelves can be more or less chosen by you (lower shelf of each unit). Once you have chosen the placement of that shelf, it then becomes fixed and cannot be moved again. It's a great system - definitely worth the price!

Answer:
No. The back wall of the closet becomes the back of the organizer. If you have baseboard trim in your closet you can cugt out the section where the organizer will be so it will sit flat up against the wall. The bracket that attaches to the wall allows you to miunt it without removing the baseboard but then there will be a. A small gap between it and the wall.

Having the towers side by side with nothing in between will not fit your closet. But if you had the 2 towers with hang rods on both sides of each tower then it will fill your space.

Answer:
Yes you can. I think the best way to do it for you would be to put the shelves separated by a couple of feet. That way you have:
Double Hang Rods - Shelves - Single Hang Rod - Shelves - Double Hang Rods
You can change the configuration to suit your needs but most people need more double hang than single hang.

Answer:
Well the shelving unit next to one another will be 50 inches or 4' 2". Depending on where you place the shelving unit? In the middle of the closet leaves you with roughly 4' 6" on either side but if the unit is place on one side of the closet your going to need a long clothing rod because if i remember the rod fits up to 8feet.

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 150 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor quality control. I've put together my fair share of flat pack furniture. I only had to open the box to realize this was a poorly manufactured product. Every cam receiver hole was either cut too close to the edge or just broken off to the edge. Closed the box and will be bringing it back to the store. Reading online reviews of these closetmaid systems it seems as though this shoddy manufacturing is par for the course. (holes drilled backwards so the rough side is out and the finished side is in, etc) I'm surprised HD even carries this garbage. October 9, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Chipped Pieces Some shelving pieces were chipped even though there was no visible damage to the exterior packaging. October 25, 2016

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Cheap Spend the extra money. The material is poor and difficult to put together. October 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to put together. Quality product. All the parts were there. It's made of particle board, but there were no cracks. The thing I disliked the most was that I would have liked the shelves to be about 5 inches taller so that my husband's suits could hang on both the top and the bottom. October 18, 2016
