Answer:
It has stabilizing heavy paper corners that helps to keep it steady, but if you don't have it against a wall then I suggest placing the end shelf at the top and bottom shelf 3 or 4 inches from the bottom. That should be OKay

It needs to be attached to the wall. It is really tall, so, for your peace of mind - and safety's sake, anchor it. I only attached 2 of the 4 suggested brackets. That should do - unless you are in earthquake country.

Answer:
It is built as two separate shelving units, then you stack them atop each other. I found this to be a particularly helpful feature when inserting the unit in the closet, as I did not end up bumping against the closet opening as I would have had it been one tall piece.

Jake - All of our tall units such as this one are two units stacked. Each contains two fixed shelves and one adjustable shelf. The placement of one of the fixed shelves can be more or less chosen by you (lower shelf of each unit). Once you have chosen the placement of that shelf, it then becomes fixed and cannot be moved again. It's a great system - definitely worth the price!

Answer:
No. The back wall of the closet becomes the back of the organizer. If you have baseboard trim in your closet you can cugt out the section where the organizer will be so it will sit flat up against the wall. The bracket that attaches to the wall allows you to miunt it without removing the baseboard but then there will be a. A small gap between it and the wall.

Yes! If you call Closetmaid like I did they will say no, but if you look at the closet rods you can see that you can cut them. Each rod is comprised of two rods - one slides inside another and that is what makes the rods adjustable. Just cut the rods on the sides that do NOT have the holes on them (the holes are needed to attach the rods to the rod supports).

Home Depot will cut your melamine shelves down to side for you, but they will not cut metal. The metal rods were too thick for my husband to do with the hacksaw. So we took them to Ace and got them cut for free and the cuts were very nice and clean.

I'm not so sure I would try that unless you can cut perfect enough that the rod still fits into each other. There is a specific end that needs to be on the outside so you can attach it. I have mine all on one side and i really like it. Good luck

Answer:
The hanging rod is telescoping. It has two pieces, one fits inside the other so that it can expand and contract to meet your needs. If you need it to be shorter than that you can cut down one of the rods, drill a hole in the end so that it fits in the bracket.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Can't beat quality and cost This is the second house in which I have had Closet Maid organizers installed. I did not do myself but paid someone else to assemble and install. It cost about $100 per closet labor plus the materials which I purchased at Home Depot and it took about 1-1/2 hours from start to finish. Great closet organization. I am so pleased. Another house I had one of those closet organization companies do it and the material seemed almost the same but cost me thousands to have 3 closets done compared to about $250 per closet using Closet Maid organizers that I purchased myself and paid someone else to install.. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Closet Maid Organiizer =white laminate shelving unit and hanging poles Directions for assembly were very clear. I am a 73 year old woman and I only needed help lifting the top shelving unit on to the base unit. I rate this a 2 hammer job. May 17, 2016

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Complete garbage Lousy product. Cam holes not drilled properly. Box didn't survive delivery. Now I have to find someplace to get it exchanged and hope the next one is made correctly and not all broken. April 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simple and sophisticated DIY closet update We used this kit to make our 7.5' long walk-in closet more functional. The directions were easy to understand, and our closet was updated in only one afternoon! Before, we just had standard wire shelves the whole length of the closet. Now we have room for shelves and double hanging rods. I'm planning on purchasing a few matching drawers, and laminate shelves to go above the rods on either side of the towers. Based on another review, I'm also planning on buying the ClosetMaid Selectives 14.5 in. x 41.5 in. x 25 in. 3-Shelf White Stackable Organizer. Since extra shelves are not available to purchase separately, I'll just use those shelves from that kit in our current towers. Now our closet is more beautiful and more functional! August 16, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quality product for the price This set was easy to assemble and seems pretty sturdy (we anchored it to the wall in the closet). I'm by no means a handy man so if I had no issues with getting this together and installed and looking decent enough, anyone can. We bought this with the optional drawers and those installed great in the organizer. We are happy with the end product and will probably buy this again for other closets in our home. March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Buy I had these installed in my last 2 condos (no I don't do DYI), and they are great. I had a builder install walls and shutter bi-fold doors..hides the storage and looks great He liked it so much he's doing it himself... March 15, 2016
