Customer Questions & Answers

these are currently shown as out of stock online. They are also not available in my local store. Any idea when they will become available

The Selectives Cherry Closet Organizer is being discontinued and there is very limited availability. Two other options would be the Selectives White or the new ClosetMaid Impressions 25 in. Dark Cherry Closet Kit (Model # 30860, Internet # 203254935, Store SKU # 354218). Both are available online and you can check your local store for availability.

Can extra side pieces be ordered/purchased separately?

I have a wall that is at an angle at the end, so it would be impossible to attach the rods flush to the wall, however if I could get another side and attach a top to it, I would be able to run the rod across straight. You used to be able to purchase all parts separately......
Asked by: Anonymous
Unfortunately, side panels are not sold separately. Only sold as part of the closet organizer kits.

Unfortunately the ClosetMaid Selectives Cherry line has been discontinued. There is, though, some inventory left in stores on clearance. Please contact our Customer Service line at 1-800-874-0008. They should have a listing of those stores which have the specific pieces you are looking for and be able to put you in touch with them. If not, please send another request through this system along with contact information and we will do what we can to help you out.

Selectives 82-1/2 in. Cherry Closet Organizer-DISCONTINUED is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty nice product but instructions are bad In general, this product looks nice, is priced decently and you can do a pretty nice job organizing your closet with it, but watch out for the bad instructions. If you are not careful you have to rip apart the lower base unit if you are going to install drawers. If you locate the bottom shelf where they say to, you won't be able to put in a small drawer plus two large drawers or three large drawers because they tell you to nail the bottom shelf in place with the gussets and then fasten the unit the wall. Once you do you cannot adjust the shelf up or down to make room for the drawers. I hope this is the only issue with the instructions.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quality has gone way down I installed a similar Closetmaid system about 10 years ago in my previous house. Thinking I was getting the same basic thing, I bought two of these organizers -- one in the 25" width, the other in 16". I also bought a number of the accessories (drawers and shelves). 1. The particle board is thin and not dense enough. The screws that hold the shelves in place can easily strip out if you're not careful. 2. The adjustable closet poles are junk. They are supposed to extend out to 48" but if you go much over 30", any weight of clothes hanging on them will bow them down a good inch. Closetmaid used to supply straight cut-off rods which were much stronger. 3. The laminate surface is now a soft vinyl-like material and not durable at all. It scratches just looking at it. In fact, several of the panels in the main system came pre-scratched with the laminate flaking off in spots. (Which I didn't notice until after I had put up the bottom 1/2.) 4. The drawers don't line up straight in the main organizer. 5. The holes drilled for the handle in the drawer were off by about a 1/8" on one side meaning you had to bend the handle to make it fit. 6. Watch out for the instructions. They are wrong in several places -- most significantly, if you locate the bottom shelf where they say to, you won't be able to put in a small drawer plus two large drawers. Why? Because they tell you to nail that bottom shelf in place with the gussets. Once you do and put the unit against the wall, you can't adjust the shelf up or down to make room for the drawers. Ooops. 7. You can't buy any extra shelves for the main stackers from Home Depot or ClosetMaid. In fact, when I contacted ClosetMaid about getting extra shelves, they said they didn't sell those parts. Hmmm. I wonder what they do if one breaks in shipping? Regardless, they said (via email) that I could "cut some particle board" to fit but that it would "void the warranty" on my units. And no, the shelves that are sold for above the rods won't work either. They are the wrong depth and you'd have to somehow drill them out for the shelf fasteners -- assuming you had a jig that could do it. 8. The slides on the drawers stick badly. One drawer works OK, the three others have to be "yanked" open. 9. The above the rod shelves are too thin to support any weight without bending -- even with the back support in place. ------ CONCLUSION - If I hadn't spent so much time installing the system up front, I would have returned everything to Home Depot. It's one of those projects that once you get to a certain stage of completion, there's no turning back. I really wish I could have. I will never buy another Closetmaid product again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from nice master closet! We got two of these as part of our master closet renovation. Very easy to put together and install. We've got drawers in the bottom half of each one, and then hanging in the top half, so we didn't end up using all the shelves. I don't like the closet poles that come with it this set - they extend to fit the space, so there is a spot where the two pieces overlap where the hangers catch when you try to slide them. I got some regular round poles and cut them to fit instead. One thing to note if you are putting in drawers - you need one of the narrow shelves on the bottom - not the shelf that the directions tell you to use - read the drawer installation instructions before putting the shelves together!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Broken Parst=Upset Customer Cam breaks when slightest pressure from screwdriver is applied. Eight of the phillips head inserts broke, jeopardizing the structural stability of the entire unit. Looked to be a fairly affordable and nice upgrade for my daughter's closet.... I ended up having to drill small pilot holes and put in wood screws to keep the unit from collapsing. Overall not the best choice in closet organizers. I should have taken it back but by the time I get to the nearest HD store my time and gas was worth more to me. My husband encouraged me to return but now it is firmly together and will work fine. I would have expected more from Closetmaid....

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Storage Solution For The Price Makes a huge difference in storage options for our reach-in closet. Easy to assemble and looks good. Thanks to previous poster for heads up on lower drawer installation, what a pain it would have been to re-do lower shelf after installation, read drawer instructions first. Lighter "Cherry" color does not really match other Cherry furniture, but no big deal behind doors. Also wish gaps on door and drawer accessories could be smaller and more even, just me being picky.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product I would totally recommend this closet system to any and every one. Easy instructions very estetic to the eye. Very beautiful. It's hundreds cheaper than the other systems that I priced at other stores and sites. It's very easy to put together, I usually have help with these types of projects, but my spouse being disabled now, I had to challenge myself. I put it together for my mom. Soon I will do one for myself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks great, goes up fast This went together quickly and looks fantastic. I bought two and placed them side by side in the center of a walk-in closet and it gives me tons of space to stash things. The rods attach in a way that hangers can slide all the way across without stopping which was a must for me. Very nice product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good, sturdy piece I ordered 2 unites to redo master closet: one of them arrived all shattered in pieces, USP took a fault on it and sent it back. I assembled the undamaged one, and it was easy to do, took me 10 minutes max 15. Very sturdy and looks very nice.
