Not sure if its just a defect but I have rechargeable batteries I use and put them in this product. It lasted all of about 20 minutes so I thought I might have left it on and I charged the batteries for a couple of hours and the next day I got about 20 minutes use. Not sure if its the batteries, the heat or a defective product.

I'm a definite fan of the Coast HL27 309 Lumen Focusing LED Headlamp. Powerful and lightweight, with a sturdy batter pack and adjustable brightness, focus, and angle, this headlamp offers all the usability and options I could possible want or need. It is very bright when set on the brightest setting. I haven't had the headlamp long enough to judge the battery life, but, if the instructions are accurate, the thing has a run time of 3h 45min on high light and 99h 30 min on the lowest setting (which is really unusable except in the absolute darkest situations).
The headlamp comes in a super-sturdy box, and also comes with clips that allow you to attach the headlamp to a hardhat.
I recommend this headlamp.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JReed I LOVE this thing!!!!!
This headlamp is incredible. Its worth every penny. The build quality is top notch, and the LED and focusing technology that Coast uses is amazing. It allows you to focus it to a point (portraying a normal flashlight) or focus it to a very wide angle which disburses the light, but this thing is 300 lumens, so its bright enough at night to show you exactly what you want to see! This lamp also has a dimmer switch, which I dont use a whole lot, but it is very nice if you need to conserve battery, and it doesnt seem flimsy or loose, so I cant imagine any issues with a lot of use. The lamp also pivots forward to shine more toward the ground. Also the top strap is removable which might be more comfortable for some people. The battery pack is located in the back, and it runs off of 3 AA batteries (which were included with mine). My only complaint is that it is a little bit bulky which could get uncomfortable if you dont use it with a hardhat or anything. I use mine for overnight surf fishing trips to the gulf coast and it has performed flawlessly over 2 trips, and still running on the original batteries; I will gladly deal with the bulk because this headlamp is rugged and well built.
The presentation and quality that Coast has put in the fine details is great! The packaging alone shows attention to detail. This is my second Coast product (I also have their LED flashlight) and I am more than impressed with both products. They've got my business for all of my future needs.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Oneydee FANTASTICALLY bright and effective headlamp!
Picked this up on a whim because I needed a replacement headlamp for general hiking and camping use. I was frankly blown away the first time I used it at the light output (maybe even overkill for just general purpose use.) The LED lighting really is "light years" (LOL) ahead of incandescent and if you haven't tried this technology in any of your flashlights/headlamps/etc you NEED to try one out. The focusing feature seems like it will be handy as I can dial in a broad swath of light to light up the whole campsite, all the way down to a strong and long-distance spotlight for tail hiking. Really a very high quality unit overall!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by smathy Great light, very even, robust and simple to use
I've had a number of other head torches, mostly from outdoor companies for camping and mountain biking. I've used plenty of those for handyman work too and so I'm comparing this with those NOT with handheld or area lights (the advantages/disadvantage of a head torch over those should be obvious).
The only negative thing I can say about this head torch is that the battery pack doesn't sit precisely at the back of your head which just feels a bit lop-sided and takes some getting used to.
Everything else, from the gorgeous Apple-like packaging, to robust quality of the unit, to the included helmet clips, to the amazingly clear and even light is top-notch. I hadn't even heard of this company before this product, and they're clearly a leader in this industry.
I've included photos of a job I just did, replacing a light-switch with a dimmer switch, and obviously the head torch is excellent. I've also used this torch in a number of places you wouldn't think of, like when replacing a valve in my sprinkler system - even though it was daylight, just having the extra light when reaching into the sprinkler box/pit was a big advantage.
Overall this compares very well with the more expensive outdoor-brand head-torches that I've used.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bassmaster555 GREAT HEADLIGHT FOR PLUMBERS
I work part-time with a plumber in my area. This light is just fantastic for dark crawlspaces and under-counter jobs. Plenty of light in a crawlspace to look around for unwanted critters (spiders, snakes, racoons) before entering. It holds well even when laying on my back. Also, I love the fact that you can dial down power when not necessary to conserve on the batteries. Many times this light will work for a full day on a single charge if I reduce power when I can. I use rechargable Ni-Mh batteries and they seem to last longer than throw away Dura-cells. It's so comfortable that many times I forget I have it on. I have used this light for over a year now without any problem. You can't go wrong with this light.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by CheesePatrol Excellent headlamp
I've been using this headlamp for about 2 months now. I have had zero issues with it. I primarily use it around the house or when working on my car. The beam is very wide and will sufficiently light up your work area, especially at full brightness.
The headlamp came in extremely handy several times when I went out fishing during the pre-dawn hours thanks to the super low brightness the adjustment allows for - just enough light to set up my gear, but not enough to completely destroy my nightvision. On these trips, I finally used the narrow beam at full brightness to get a good look at the water. I was pleasantly surprised with the range.
The brightness control is very easy to use as is the on/off button. The headlamp itself is very comfortable. Initially I was concerned about comfort since I had never used one with a top strap (which is removable) or with the battery pack in the back. The top strap actually helped keep the headlamp in place (my cheaper headlamp slides down a bit sometimes) and the battery pack's position was never an issue, comfort-wise. Battery life appears to be excellent. I've got about 30 hours on it (about half of that time at full brightness) and have not noticed any difference in brightness. Construction seems to be sturdy.
As a LED aficionado, I highly recommend this product.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by inspector Great Headlamp
Coast makes quality headlamps and this particular model HL27 is one of their brighter models with 309 lumens. It can be adjusted continuously from high to low light and also from flood to beam, both good features to have. You can also tilt the light up or down for different situations. I use it on my hardhat entering abandoned structures which makes it a plus for hands-free service with the included hardhat clips. It's a great bright light, but I think it's a little pricey. Other than the price, 5 stars
