Plant Sitter is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Plant sitter Plant sitter works fine. A bit pricey if you have multiple plants. At first mine wasn't drawing water from the reservoir so I uncapped the spike, filled it completely with water again and carefully recapped it. Now it works fine. It helps to understand how the siphoning process works. The drawing action requires the waterline and spike top have no leaks so it can pull the water from the reservoir, up throught the line into the spike thus defying gravity. Also make sure the soil is packed tightly around the spike so it can draw out the water. The lid on my resevoir doesn't stay snapped shut so I hold it closed with a rubber band.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Plant sitter works like tensiometer after all leaks are sealed I opened up a second package of Plant Sitter sensors and did some leak testing of all six units. If they're working properly, they should be able to suck water up out of a reservoir that is positioned below the caps. For this test, the liquid level in the reservoir was positioned 16" below the caps. The duration of the test was 17 hours with a small fan blowing across the ceramic cones. At the conclusion of the test, four sensors were full of air and non-working. The other two were working and pulled a total of 180 CCs of water at an estimated rate of 5.29 CC per hour per sensor. The leaks were occurring near the top cylindrical portion of the ceramic where a plastic cylinder is forced over it. The plastic cylinder can be pulled off and some acrylic resin will make a more perfect seal. After doing this to all six sensors, I repeated the test. This time, the capillary tubes and plastic cylinders continued to remain free of air 72 hours later. At the end of that time, the six sensors had drawn 1.1 liter from the reservoir and the liquid level was now down 20" below the caps! This time, the average flow rate was 2.55 CC per hour per sensor. I'll need to do further testing to see if lift height has an effect on flow rate. I didn't go into detail about leaks and kinks in the hose ends. The best remedy is to carefully remove the white piece under the green cap and discard the cap. Cut off the kinked hose end and reuse the brass nipple. The small hole in the center of the white piece must not leak. Apply sealant around the hose where it passes through. The manufacturers heart is in the right place but the execution is somewhat lacking. The sensors I received were obviously not checked for leaks. A leaky sensor is little more than a simple siphon. In siphon mode, the water level in the reservoir will not drop below the level of the vacuum leak. Without due diligence, you will have some very thirsty or dead plants. If you are one of the few who would go the extra distance to seal the leaks, you might have earned yourself a "worry-free vacation''!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Plant sitter When I got back from my trip the containers were still full of water which means my plants did not get water while I was gone. The plants were still able to survive.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work well I couldn't get this to work for me. The clay part would dry out and not suck water from the receptacle. The printed instructions are not too god so I went online and read some of the people's comments. I tried different things but still couldn't get it to work consistently. I returned it.
