This PureBond Walnut Plywood Project Panel features plain-sliced veneers cut from natural timber harvested in a sustainable manner from American hardwood forests, ensuring premium quality, lasting durability and enduring beauty with each sheet. Fortified with a yellow poplar core substrate, the layers of this 5-ply panel are glued together with a cutting-edge PureBond technology derived from soybeans—an environmentally friendly, formaldehyde-free solution that is water-resistant and will not emit airborne contaminants. Precision-cut in 1/2 in. x 2 ft. x 4 ft. panels with burr-free edges, this decorative walnut plywood is perfect for smaller woodworking projects and serves as a cost-competitive alternative to UF-laden plywood, which is prone to degrade indoor air quality over time by off-gassing toxic fumes. The strength and flatness of these panels gives DIYers and professional tradesmen the confidence to construct a variety of cabinet-grade gems for a lifetime of dependability and enjoyment.

Answer:
The standard size sheet is 4X8. It can be special ordered by some Lumber companies and one Big Box store does carry it. Check if the store has a panel saw as the veneer is very fragile and can be damaged in transport and cutting of the large sheet. It is cheaper and more stable than using solid wood. Make sure you edge it carefully with a lot of clamps and sand gently.

The longest/thickest panel is listed at 4X8 feet and 3/4 inches thick. However, you will probably want to use a 2X8 panel for your desktop and cut it for the proper length. No 3/4 inch wood (plywood or solid) should be expected to support weight by itself over a span of 30 inches or so. You should also know that most high quality hardwood plywood has a relatively thin external layer (walnut is among the most expensive of our native woods) and, depending on what you plan to do with your desk, may risk dings and scratches. That said, it should be easy to conceal/repair those dings and scratches. Read Less

Answer:
I would not recommend this product in a desktop application. This plywood is really of insufficient thickness and the surface is veneered so not intended to stand up to wear and tear. Instead, I would suggest using a solid core door to bridge your file cabinets, or even better - a butcher block material for a quick, attractive, and very durable desktop surface.

Hello Msteri,
You can special order 4 ft. x 8 ft. Walnut at your local Home Depot store under special order SKU 226-917. Call or stop by the contractor services desk and ask for pricing on the panel. We will produce the panel and ship it to the store for you to pick up. Lead time for this item would be approximately 3 weeks. Due to the size and weight of the panel we are unable to ship by traditional ground carriers like UPS or Fed Ex. It will work fine for a desk top. You can special order the panel with a clear coat finish to protect the Walnut veneer or you would need to apply a high quality finish to protect the Walnut veneer. Thank You for your inquiry.

Hello,
You can special order a thicker panel at the store. We produce panels up to 1 ¼” thick. You will need to talk with an associate at the Prodesk to place the special order. You may also contact me at kcrisp@cfpwood.com for more details.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by High Quality This plywood looks great, and is completely flawless on the A side. The B side doesn't look bad at all either. It shipped in a sturdy box, with several protective sheets of cardboard surrounding the plywood. The veneer is a little thin (<1/32"), so you'll have to make sure not to sand too much except for a light finishing pass. The veneer doesn't really need much finishing anyway, and I jumped right to 220 grit for it. The veneers sandwich three thicker plies on the interior. I didn't find any voids at all either. There's a very very slight warp in my sheet, but nothing that framing it with some solid walnut won't fix easily. This is going to make for one awesome looking piece of furniture when I have everything together! May 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by High quality, few voids, finishes nicely After having such good luck with 3/4" panels, I tried some of this 1/2 inch. I am delighted with the quality! If you work with construction grade plywood, you are familiar with its warping, especially when stored carelessly. Since I ordered this by mail, it arrived in a flat pack and was nearly perfectly flat. After letting it settle in a dry shop environment, it became flat as the proverbial pancake. As I mentioned in other reviews for similar panels, this has good veneer and takes finish well. So far, I've used about two dozens quarter-sheets of this stuff and it has ALL been consistently good quality. The ONLY problems I've even seen with these plywood panels are when some careless customer puts them back improperly in the rack. ANY plywood will warp if it is stored wrong. If you order this via mail, then you get new product that hasn't been damaged by careless customers in the store. Buy it right, store it right, and you'll always have nice plywood on hand for projects! April 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent purchase Just received 3 sheets of 3/4 inch Walnut ply. It is plane sawn and book matched. only two repeats per sheet. Perfect condition, outstanding packaging, and fast delivery. Back side is somewhat stained, but at least half can be used as the 'A' side. No voids in plys. Only one big box store carries it in our area and it would cost me more to pick it up (120 Miles) than shipping. Using it for an entertainment center and the 2X4 are easy to handle. All three sheets show the same coloration and match. Local lumber company can special order, but agin has no panel saw and the cost is greater. Paul September 24, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very good quality of veneer, with no patches or plugs visible. The panels were in fine shape except for the corners on two edges. This is the second shipment received with this problem. Fortunately, I only needed 46 inches of the 48 inch ply (for both projects). The boards are manufactured very well, but, the shipping process is not doing a very good job of handling them. I suggest small re-enforcements be placed at each of the corners, which is better than having to eat the complete return of damaged goods. Thanks for your time. October 7, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by as advertised Good quality walnut panel, appears to be bonded with 2 layers of MDF for stability. The outside walnut layer is relatively thin, which is common for high quality panels, but there is little room for sanding error. My biggest worry was that the 2 panels I purchased would be damaged in shipping. They arrived in fine shape. I will definitely purchase again. July 15, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This veneer plywood is exactly what I needed For years I have veneered my own birch plywood with walnut and cherry for furniture, cabinets, and clock projects. After finding this product at homedepot.com, I ordered some for my current project and was delighted when it arrived. Clear, nice grain and uniform color. The secondary side was not bad either. With no Home Depot store in my rural town, the convenience of online purchasing was great. It arrived quickly, packaged well and in excellent condition. July 9, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by High quality product This product is made of high quality walnut veneer. No blemishes. Perfect edge quality for joining. Perfectly flat with no warp whatsoever. I definitely recommend this product and will not hesitate to order again for future projects. Delivery was right on time. January 22, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by nice walnut plywood Plywood was excellent on one side with uniform dark color. Back side was good with some lighter shades of walnut. Plywood arrived packaged in cardboard to protect it from nicks and scratches. May 21, 2013
