Conserve time, expenses and exertion on your next cabinetry or woodworking project with the PureBond Prefinished Maple Plywood Project Panel. A UV-resistant medium gloss coats the face veneer on this 1/4 in. x 2 ft. x 2 ft. panel, protecting your carpentry creations from fading, scratching and chipping. Harvested in a sustainable manner, American-grown maple trees form the foundation for the decorative veneers, exhibiting the natural warmth and beauty of hardwood that supplies visual allure for shelves, cabinets, end tables, serving trays, wall panels, benches, letter baskets and more. The soy-based PureBond technology used to assemble each 3-ply panel is formaldehyde-free, so it will not off-gas toxic fumes as UF-constructed plywood commonly does. All-wood construction includes yellow poplar veneer core layered in alternating cross bands for superb strength, flatness and rigidity.

I want to get panels that I can paint over right away without sanding. Since this has a clear coat to it already, can I just paint over it?

Yes, you can apply any acrylic or oil based house paint. Even artists paints will adhere to the durable polyurethane finish. Be aware that you can apply paint to bare wood too without sanding. The only issue is how smooth you want the final surface.

They also sell pre-primed plywood, which is the absolute BEST surface for accepting paint. I've used those a bunch, and they are real time savers. They are very smooth and require NO sanding whatsoever to accept paint. If you spray the paint on, these pre-primed and sanded panels can make very nice signs, boxes, jig & fixtures... all sorts of things. Just search the HD website for "pre-primed handi-panels."
Good Luck! ;-)

Answer:
Hello Sue,
This prefinished maple would not work for you. The coating we have on the panel would not let the paint adhere. I would recommend going with the primed poplar panel for your application.

Answer:
I wouldn't think so because it is an indoor plywood and so will not stand up to water, dampness, etc. The edges are not finished-they are not sealed. Also, I would guess the finish that is on the panel is not meant to come into contact with food.

Answer:
Hello,
The Maple layer on the plywood is thin - 1/42” thick. Would not recommend the item for use as a cutting board. Intended application is for cabinets, built-ins, etc. Thank you for the interest in our product.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 30 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by High Quality Attractive Panel for Furntiture and Cabinets This pre-finished attractive panel is flat and square with a multi-layer core that is bond together well to form a strong moisture resistant panel that is ideal for indoor furniture and cabinet projects. The manufacturer applied gloss finish to both sides of the panel is durable and beautiful with no imperfections and should last for years when cleaned with non-abrasive cleaning products. A carbide tipped circular saw blade works well for cutting this panel to size with minimum splintering or tear out on the edges of the panel. I used this panel for a very strong and attractive computer table top that I secured to a support frame using small angle brackets under the panel to have no visible hardware on the top surface. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Panels for DIY projects This 3/4in.x 2ft.x4ft. Pre-finished Maple Plywood is perfect for most small projects. You can carry this size panel in the back seat or trunk. The "half sheet" panel is ideal for handling. Light weight and easy to carry anywhere. The packaging is such that the panel is well protected for shipping and handling. The edges are void free making the edges easy to sand and paint or stain. It’s a water-resistant compilation that tolerates moisture better than formaldehyde-bonded plywood, while the 7-ply layering makes it less likely to warp than solid hardwood. The decorative hardwood panel is assembled with a soy-based PureBond adhesive that won’t emit airborne contaminants over time, as UF-constructed plywood is prone to do. These panels are available in larger sizes September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Terrific customer service I purchased these project boards to line a linen cabinet. I emailed the rep (Kevin Crisp) from Columbia Forest Products to ask if they could cut the boards to size for me. He could not have been more helpful. He answered all of my questions quickly and helped me decide between a few different options. The boards arrived in good time. There were a couple of minor scratches and pressure dings in the pieces, but I just turned those faces around. I'm pretty sure that if I had tried to cut them myself, I would've caused more damage just through handling the boards. In any event, I'm very happy with the way the project turned out, and I'm especially pleased with Columbia's responsive customer service! They were a pleasure to work with. October 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by cabinet doors and drawer fronts Excellent product. Very flat and no blemishes. Saves countless hours of finishing time. Will continue to use. October 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful panel; beautiful finish This is a very nice pre-finished "handy panel" of maple veneer. It is finished on both sides with a clear sealer. The panel I got is perfectly clear wood on the front meaning it is free of voids, knots, etc. and has one dark area in the wood veneer on the other side. This is not a problem for me as I know the imperfections in color that are to be found in Maple and this color variation adds to the visual interest of the piece for me. The finish on both of the front and back surfaces is remarkable. The finish is perfectly clear and the panel's smooth as glass. I will cut this panel into shelves to go alongside some cabinets I have and I will band the cut edges and sides with maple or a contrasting wood banding material. This is a beautiful pre-finished maple handy panel. April 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by High Quality Maple Veneer Plywood This is a very high quality maple veneer plywood which would be useful in many woodworking projects. I am using this for a sign application, but it could have many uses. As you can see from the picture below, it is a very clear maple veneer which should hold up very well. It is free of any significant blemishes. It was finished with a nice clear coat and it was very smooth. I would highly recommend this maple veneer plywood! March 17, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice product, I can't wait to finish my project with it! Very pretty, very smooth wood! this sheet of plywood looks so nice, I can't wait to get my project done! Very smooth, very flat, no warping or twisting - it is going to be a shelf inside a new kitchen island; it has been cut to the right size, and fits well, but I still have a lot to do to be completely done with this piece. You would think this was a sheet of finished maple, the panel has such a realistic look! It's going to be a great island when I finally get it all done! August 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Uniform Satin Finish This has a nice uniform satin finish on the one side of the plywood. It kind a has a yellow ting to the wood so it doesn't look like the maple wood I purchase. The plywood itself is sturdy and easy to cut with a table saw or jigsaw. The saws don't leave any marks on the finish side after cutting. This helps speed up some projects with it being already finished. August 25, 2016
