For DIYers and professional tradesmen who recognize the importance of going green and using natural timber harvested in a responsible manner, turn to this FSC-certified PureBond Birch Plywood from Columbia Forest Products. Each 3-ply sheet features a decorative birch veneer on the face, which exudes the warmth and beauty of natural hardwood to supply your carpentry creations with visual allure. Furthermore, the 1/4 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft. panels are manufactured with a soy-based PureBond technology that is formaldehyde-free so it won’t deteriorate air quality, as is common with UF-constructed sheets that are susceptible to releasing airborne contaminants over time. Intended for interior use, these birch plywood panels are an affordable way to craft authentic hardwood-faced masterpieces such as built-in cabinets, entertainment centers, tables, shelves, headboards, wall panels and more. With an eye toward sustainability, Columbia takes pride in manufacturing this Earth-conscious product and takes seriously its responsibility in replenishing forests for future generations.

What's the best way to finish these?

I want to use these panels for interior paneling. What's the best product to finish them with a clear finish?
Asked by: Georges
Like a plywood. Water-based PU, three coats with 220 in between. Woolube w 0000 to finish. But, as paneling, you'll need a lot of staples to get this critter to lie flat.

I was considering using this as wall paneling because of its thickness, without drywall underneath. Would this product make good wall paneling?
Asked by: karen
Sure. Not sure how you were planning to deal with the seams but "Board and Batten" is the typical treatment. Just make sure you secure to studs adequately [I'd think about 1/4" x 1 1/2" crown staples and adhesive]. [And insulate for sound, moisture as appropriate.]

Will this stick to epoxy fiberglass resin. Using bondo resin.

Asked by: Larry
Epoxy resin will adhere tenaciously to this material. But if you're asking if the top veneer would peel off if something bonded to the surface exerted a strong upward pull on that surface ... well, that's another question the answer to which would depend on a lot of factors. Here's a "for instance" based on my gut feel: assume this panel was used as a wall; then let's assume you bonded a pot hanger to it [with your epoxy] and the arm of that pot hanger extended 24"; and then let's assume you put a 200-lb pot on that hanger. Now with that 400-ft-lbs of torture, I suspect the top layer of this plywood would yield ... maybe not instantly but I don't think the layer is thick enough to offer the require resistance-to-shear to thwart the initial tear that would lead to peeling and failure. For any other type of loading, you'll be more than okay.

I spent 20 minutes going through a stack to find a piece that wasn't scratched and severely warped. The were stacked so poorly that the whole lot should be thrown out. A piece that I thought was good turned out to be not so much. After staining there was a visible line on both sides of the plywood from what I couldn't figure out. Kind of looked like it got stuck in a drum sander. I tried hand sanding lightly with some 220 and went right through the veneer. There were lots of visible voids on the edges too after I cut it. It also curled up after cutting. This thing is going in the trash.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Suitable for Face Frame Panel Inserts The sheet of 4'x8' MPX Composed C 4 R/C Whole Piece Birch HD measured 0.182" thick. Being without plies, this sheet was so warped in both length and width as to make it all but unusable in anything other than the bottoms of small drawers, say smaller than 10"x10". I'm assuming the material lacked 'dimensional stability' owing to it having a 'composed core' rather than a 'ply core'. I have, in the past purchased thin materials that laid flat. On the plus side, the 'look' of both surfaces was outstanding, very clear and very smooth. Better than I expected. But the color was much darker than typical birch and much harder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really nice woodgrain I ordered this in the hopes that I could use it to build custom doors and/or drawer fronts for my kitchen remodel. The woodgrain is beautiful, but because it's only about 3/16" thick I might need to rethink my drawer fronts. I managed to get this delivered to my home because it wasn't in stock locally. I was expecting a piece of plywood wrapped in something to protect it; and when it arrived it was "wrapped" between two 1/2" thick pieces of plywood I wasn't expecting! Not only was it well-protected, but the "wrappings" are gorgeous as well. Now I just need to think of another project!! Getting it delivered was tricky because the supplier requires a signature. I still can't figure out why I would need to sign for a $30+ piece of wood that only weighs 21 pounds. Of course with the "wrappings" it weighed about 100 pounds! I did manage to get a release form emailed to me that I emailed back to the delivery company. Once that was done, it was delivered the next day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely happy with purchase We were very excited that a 1/4" x 4' x 8' piece of plywood was available. We had a very tricky door jamb detail that needed a thin veneer solution and this fit the bill perfectly. Part of the reason for the glowing review however, is how Home Depot shipped us this piece. In order to make certain that the piece arrive in pristine condition, they sandwiched it between two 1/2" x 4' x 8' pieces of plywood. So, we actually received three pieces of beautiful plywood for the price of the one that we purchased. We are quite pleased. The birch also stained up beautifully and looks great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super ProductI I have been using Purebond for. At least the last 5 years and never had an issue! In the past I have had to work around delamination and signicant voids in other products....very wastefull. Since switching to Purebond, I have never seen these issues. I now demand Purebond for every project requiring plywood. All thicknesses (1/4, 1/2 or 3/4) with rhe same outstanding results. Thankyou Columbia Forest Products! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice looking sheet of plywood Received the plywood today from the freight shipping company. One little spot on the edge got dinged, but overall received in great shape. I like the grain look that it has. The plywood has 3 layers. The center and then the two birch veneer. This plywood should make some very nice drawer bottoms or other pieces to some high quality projects. Great piece of plywood to have around the shop. I'm sure it will get used up very quickly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent plywood, but... I bought 30 sheets of PureBond plywood. Decent stuff, although there were a few voids in the core layer here and there. Most annoying of all, however, were the 4"x5" stickers they place on the plywood, which leave a sticky residue when you try to remove them. Surely there has to be an adhesive they can use which doesn't befoul the wood. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
