Can the preprimed side be stained -- if so any special precautions/preparation? If not, and both sides are visible in places, how do I NOT use paint?
Asked by: Ldr
Hello, If you do not want to use paint - I would recommend going with the poplar option that is not pre-primed. There are other options as well like maple, cherry, etc. that do not have the prime coat on them. Thanks

Can it be painted and used as an outdoor sign material?
Asked by: Joseph
Hello Joseph, The plywood is intended for interior applications. It is not recommended for exterior applications. The glue used to bond the layers is water resistant – but not waterproof.

3/4 in. x 2 ft. x 2 ft. PureBond Pre-Primed Poplar Plywood Project Panel (Free Custom Cut Available) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Plywood with a Valuable Prime I'm building numerous base and wall cabinets for my garage workshop project. I've got about 28 feet of wall space at nine feet high, so about 14 cabinets each of base (34 inches high) and wall (48 inches high), about two feet wide each. I was doing two coats of primer and one coat of white. I tried some of this pre-primed plywood. This is really a HUGE time-saver. Any plywood with a veneer really soaks up any kind of finish, so having one coat already done was perfect. Also, I think the primer helps in the cuts, as I wasn't getting near as much tear-out. I'm using good tools and techniques, so I was surprised I was getting better results. I'll definitely be using this in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very straight, strong wood I used this wood to build a high end looking linen cabinet. We used the 3/4 inch thickness for the sides, both for support and good looks. It's very very smooth, very straight and strong piece of wood. It cut nicely with a sharp blade and the pre primed surface took the paint very nicely. I also used this same wood in the 1/2" thickness for the shelves, and they came out beautiful. I would highly recommend this wood for fine woodworking projects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very high quality, good wood This is a beautiful piece of wood, perfect for a woodworking project, such as building a high-end looking linen cabinet, like we did. I used this for the shelving and it was easy to cut (using a sharp blade of course), very smooth, and the paint adhered nicely to the pre-primed surface. Very sturdy and smooth, nice looking piece of wood. I also used the 3/4 inch preprimed poplar plywood for the sides.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Handy size This panel is a handy size to work for smaller projects. I had a project where I needed to construct a sidewall to support several large, thin boxes of equipment. (A bookend so to speak). The panel was just the right size. I did not have to cut it at all. And because it was primed, it saved lots of time because it was ready to paint. Please note that while the plywood is primed on both sides, the edges are not primed. Also note that the primer is not necessarily a sealer, so there were a couple of wood knots that showed through the primer a bit. Have some primer available to do the edges and knots if needed. If you cut the panel, that cut edge will need to be primed anyway.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Handy Stuff Pre Primed poplar Plywood. Strong, lightweight, stable stuff. Great to have around in a small shop where it is awkward to handle or store large panels. Cost is slightly higher compared to a full sheet, cut into fourths, but the extra cost is well worth it if your shop situation prevents you from storing or handling larger sheets. It is flat, smooth and clean, and I found no voids in any inner plies. Takes paint well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Time saver! We pay more for pre-primed wood, but when I'm in a hurry, it's totally worth it. I save several time-consuming steps even if I need to paint it. You don't need to sand to 180, clean that dust, then prime, and clean brushes rollers pails spray guns etc. You also don't have to wait for paint to dry. That gets jobs done sooner. Normally I use it as-is with no extra surface treatment. I use it for jigs, fixtures, small boxes, container reinforcement, tool-box liners, drawer partitions, mini shelves in the workshop or garage. Just mark it. cut it, install it... DONE! This is really handy stuff. It's easy to mark on with pencil, and that makes layout easy. Poplar is lightweight anyway, so these quarter-panels are very easy to handle. Quality is good with very few voids. Screw-holding is good, better with wide-head screws. The primer WILL accept regular glues and adhere well. Surface is reasonably smooth, but has enough "tooth" to hold paint well. I've only found one flaw with this and other thin sheet goods. That is, they are often warped, especially when they are stored poorly or put back carelessly in the store. Luckily, our local store has a couple of older guys who care. I often see them rearranging the handy-panel section after an inconsiderate customer picked out what he wanted, then left the display asunder. Please don't be that guy! Warping of thin stock in small sheets like this is easy to prevent and relatively easy to fix too. (just weight it down on a flat table top, bench or floor and heat it gently. I use a heating blanket set to low, add old paint cans on top and wait an hour or two.) But I'd rather not need to flatten panels before or during use. If you buy several sheets and have them shipped, the boards are packaged together such that they tend to stay flat. I like this stuff so much and use it for so many little projects that I keep a small inventory in my lumber rack at all times. Highly recommended! One note of caution: Primer of any type is very abrasive, so it can dull saw blades quickly. That's why I don't use my best blade when cutting this stuff. I usually use a little battery powered circa-saw with inexpensive blades. A little filing or sanding makes edges smooth.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bowed at both ends I got this to make a cabinet door for a project I'm working on. Unfortunately, the panel is bowed on each end so it's useless to me. While I'm sure I'll find another use for the wood, I'm disappointed because it won't be used for what I meant to use it for. I probably wouldn't care as much if I could trim off the bowed sections, but it's a large door so that's not possible. Because this isn't sold in stores, you can only hope that the piece that you get isn't bowed. Based on other reviews, it seems to be hit or miss.
