Cost-Effective

Standard sheets are 4’ x 8’. Or choose smaller PureBond Project Panels at homedepot.com to minimize waste.

Veneered construction gives these decorative PureBond Birch Plywood Project Panels the strength, flatness and rigidity to satisfy the most discerning craftsman. Each 7-ply sheet is assembled with a soy-based PureBond technology to fortify its structural integrity, with the added benefit of being formaldehyde-free so it wills not off-gas toxic fumes over time as UF-constructed plywood is known to do. The decorative veneers are precision-cut from domestically grown, sustainably harvested birch trees, producing visually alluring wood grains on the face and back of the panel that exhibit the warmth, beauty and timeless quality of natural hardwood. Featuring real timber throughout, the core veneer consists of natural yellow poplar substrate laid in alternating cross bands for utmost stability and ruggedness. It's a cost-competitive alternative to urea formaldehyde-laden plywood and will not contribute to air-quality degradation like composite panels. For extraordinary results on your next carpentry or woodworking project, add this 3/4 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft. panel to your arsenal for construction of cabinets, entertainment centers, wall panels, coffee tables, bookcases, toy chests, benches, desks, shelves and more. The decorative veneers have a smooth finish that allows painting or staining to make it uniquely yours.

Customer Questions & Answers

Is Baltic birch plywood different than the birch plywood listed? If so, what is the difference? Thanks, johnv

Asked by: johnv
Yes. True Baltic Birch is Russian Birch, 13 ply. It generally remains flatter, is stiffer, and much more durable than home store varieties of typical birch plywood. Baltic Birch is the best choice for finer cabinet goods and is wonderful for sturdy construction of shop jigs and fixtures. The birch plywood listed here is also very good for fine case goods, but is slightly more prone to warping when stored improperly in humid atmospheres. Baltic birch is much better for anchoring fasteners thru the sheet. Edge screws don't hold well in either. I usually resort to biscuit joinery when joining the edges.

Would this be difficult to cut shapes with a jigsaw?

Asked by: Gb
I said you could cut it with a razor blade I was completely wrong it's actually quite thicker than the last one I bought

Veneer Thickness

How thick is the layer of veneer on this plywood? Also, is the picture shown really of this product? I see 5 ply in the picture, but answer to questions say it is 7 ply.
Asked by: Webster
The veneer is extremely thin so in the low resolution photo you cannot see the veneer. Seriously, I sanded through it in no time at all while trying to remove excessive planer marks with an orbital sander. My estimation is that it is about the thickness of a business card.

3/4 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft. PureBond Birch Plywood is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 89.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality Plywood I rated it one star only because the rating scale didn't offer a "0" option!! I bought 3 sheets of this 3/4" finished plywood from HD to make carcasses for two 6 ft tall cabinets for our laundry room. The stability and quality of this plywood is absolute junk. I experienced warping up to 1.5" in 6 feet. More importantly, the warping wasn't just simple bowing, but an S-shaped warping which made installing 1.5" face frames impossible. With the number of significant voids in the plies, it's not surprising that this product is so unstable. A close examination of the plywood reveals widespread thickening and thinning of individual plies which is inherent in cheap wood and manufacturing. Furthermore, the plywood is somewhat brittle and splinters badly even with brand new, quality router bits and a $100 Tenryu saw blade. I had to relegate the two cabinets to the basement for simple storage shelves. I'm off to Austin Hardwoods next week to buy quality, real cabinet grade plywood!

But for $50 per sheet, there were too many small voids. I was happy with the look and the straightness of the board, but the voids was a big disappointment.

It cut up nicely with my jigsaw and became a lovely tree for my ceramics display! The grain is gorgeous and I can't wait to see how it takes a stain.

Like others have mentioned, the laminate is somewhat thin, so if you have an older blade, a wobbly blade, or just a cheapo saw that can't get up to the higher rpm, this will splinter all over the place. For the price, I would have expected a bit better quality, but if you cut this with a higher quality saw, you should have no problems. This is extremely easy to use a kreg jig on, and the board was straight as an arrow with no bowing. The wood grain actually looks nice, but pay attention at the store as many had some wood filler in them because of scratches and dings. All in all, not bad, but a bit expensive considering how thin the laminate is.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Defective Product Purchased a sheet recently for a childs toy box. I have purchased sheets in the past for cabinets and it was great! Cut for the box, assembled with trim and poplar, and sanded the box. Everything looked great. As soon as I applied primer, voids under the veneer bubbled up and thr joints between veneer sheets lifted. I was able to peel up the veneer with my finger nail! The final product looks terrible, even as i continued to wood fill and sand. Worst of all, HD did not stand by their product and refused to offer any refund or store credit. Unfortunately I dont know how to identify a defective sheet vs a good sheet at the store. I will be seeking a new plywood source.

Front side is good although the veneer is very thin. Back side is another story. There are voids in the veneer, a lot of knots (which are okay) and the finish is very rough. I tried to sand the roughness out with an orbital sander and quickly sanded through the veneer, with the roughness remaining. I find this product to be unacceptable, especially at $50 a sheet. I'll be looking for another supplier for my next project.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Flat & Solid with Some Issues This five ply plywood, plus two thin veneers, is not warped at all and feels very solid. Unlike many lumber products these days the size was as advertised, a full 8' by 4' by 3/4". It did arrive with damage to one corner so that few inches will not be usable. Closer inspection also revealed some gouging on the board face and three areas near the edge where the veneer had split. The accompanying photos illustrate these points. I would recommend the product but with the caution that the purchaser knows what they are going to use the board for and is aware of any issues.

I noticed that the birch veneer splinted easily when cut and drilled. A piece of the birch 2" long pealed off from the edge of one cut and I notice it was very thin. I decided to compare this plywood to a piece of 3/16" birch plywood I had bought at Home Depot a couple of years ago. If you look at the picture I added you can see the the birch veneer on the old piece is about 3 times thicker than the stuff they are selling now.
