Just finished our second fire in it. No cracks or bubbling paint like I was worried about. I've read loads of reviews recommending to put sand at the bottom to separate the heat from direct contact with the base. I had the sand ready and was just about to pour it in when I read on the included instructions specifically to NOT use sand or any other moisture retaining substance as it can cause cracking! Thankfully we had just upgraded our grill and had a 12" diameter metal grate from the old grill which now sits at the bottom of the chiminea, protecting the clay belly from direct flame. The other option was to find some lava rocks, those might work well. We've had both fires bigger than expected and flames were poking out of the top (which the instructions do not recommend). So far so good. Big thing it seems is to make sure this does not get wet. Thankfully it's light enough to move into the garage after it cools down. I'm ordering a cover for it so I don't have to move it, purely as a convenience. Seems like with proper care and maintance this chiminea will last for a long time. Definitely recommend.

I have purchased a few in the past and the quality of this one is very good and the price is on spot . You should start small fires at first to season the chiminea . I average about 3-4 years before major cracking .
I fill the bottom of the ciminea with sand so the bottom stays cool .I have mine on a vinyl deck with a concrete gas grill pad under it .

It looks great on my brick patio. Small stick fires get things started easily and quickly. For long burning fires I cut normal logs in half. Very nice out there in the evenings in late summer and fall. Sand in the bottom helps protect the clay from hot coals. Don't forget to break it in with little fires so it doesn't crack.

This is a great product. No more smoke in your face and very little ashes fly out from it. It also burns so hot that no wood is wasted. There are no ashes left after everything is burned. The only flaw is that they package it so good that it does take some time to get the top out. They package the top and place it inside the Chiminea. You need to remove all the packaging before you can remove it.

We used it last night for the first time. Today all the paint is bubbled up and flaking off.

Love the style of this chiminea. We used it nearly nightly for about 2 months.
Now the bottom bowl is completely cracked in half. If I remove the chimney part, the base will fall into two pieces. Sounds like a common issue with this product.

I really like the fire pit. It is easy to clean. A hair small. However my concern is I used it 6-8 times and the chimney completly broke in half. A huge crack ran down opposite ends of the chimney.
Again I like the product but for the chimney to break in half after 6-8 uses is not good.
