Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by 1DIYGuy I bought 4 of these for my retrofit job on my 1958 home which had no lights in the living room. I installed these with a 3-1/8" hole saw and used a utility knife to shave away at my plaster to make these fit. It worked well and the lights fit in the hole perfect. The problem I had with these was the clips that hold the lights in are very cheaply made. I had at least one of the clips break on all of my lights. The tabs were never forced, but broke with slight amounts of pressure. Very cheaply made, and made for a not very secure light.
The upside is that they look great, are very bright, and a nice warm colour of light. I highly recommend a dimmer. With just 4 of these in my 14x12 living room, it was like high noon at any time of the day in the room.
It's also unfortunate that they don't make replacement lamps to plug in to these once they burn out, you're looking at a full replacement in the future. Food for thought...

Installed this over a full sized fibergless shower stall and it certainly provides enough light. I don't mind but the Mrs. says she needs sunglasses. Put it on the same switch as the exhaust fan so I can't use a dimmer. I have access to the attic so the install was easier (I still used the clips not the bar hangers). If you've installed this type of retro fit "can" light before you should have no trouble. If this is your 1st go at it, take your time, especially cutting the hole! You can always make the hole bigger but you'll have a heck of a time trying to patch it if it's to big.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Randy Nice light for small area - But I agree with the reviews on the install.
I read the reviews before I purchased 4 of these for my over the mirror bathroom lighting. I needed a small light, I put 2 over each mirror (double sink vanity). The lights look great, the hole says cut 3.25" so I bought a 3.25" hole saw, trust me if you make the hole any bigger it won't work. I really think it might have worked better at 3.125" or maybe 3" with some sanding. at 3.25" it was nearly too big.
I had paneling over the cabinets so I took it off and had access over the top of the hole or I would not have been able to install (replaced the paneling with drywall because I was going through wood and it was 1.25" thick in stead of just 1/2" sheetrock. At first I did not think it would work at all because the clips were too tight with the extra thickness, so I just pushed real hard on the clip and helped along the top and amazingly the clips locked and these things are very tight.
Also the light barely squeezed in through the hole, luckily I was able to wire after the install which made it easier to place them through the hole.
Overall I am happy with the lights, they put off great light and should save a little $$ over the old globe incandescent bulbs.

Buyer beware of the North Hollywood Fl. Store in Oakwood Plaza, is thee most unorganized, understaffed mess of a store, empty shelves & misplaced items. Unfortunately this is the closest Home Depot to my residence, therefore I speak with authority regarding many visits to the store. As for the lights we used them as accent lights in a large walk in shower 3 in a row about 3" off wall spaced evenly,(48" wide shower) this contemporary lighting effect on a dimmer switch highlights the bling of our fixtures & wall border, yet casts plenty of light around the enclosure should you chose increase the dim feature. However, if you use this store to ship to, or expect them to be there, GOOD LUCK to you. Trust me there will be a problem along the way.

This size looks great in a smaller room. Bonus rating for the trim options off the shelf in the box. It was nice to not pay $30-30 more for nickel trim and throw away the white. One minus- the circuitry could be better because there is a slight delay when turning on the dinner and we did get some blinking when some heavy power equipment was being used .

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mike Very easy to use.
Very easy to put in. They work great. I put 4 in my daughter room and took the light off the fan. Then I raised the fan up closer to the ceiling. So now the only light in the room is from the 4 new ones. They put out a lot of light and plus they are dimmable when you want just a little light. The room looks so much bigger now. Plus my daughter loves her room now. She says that her room is cool now.

I installed one of these in a shower remodel and it works great. I found out about these from my neighbor who actually used them in his kitchen. These things are pretty easy to install with a 3 inch hole saw. They really light up my buddies kitchen nicely and my shower stall. The fit really nice and tight with a 3 inch hole saw.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RedLodger Remove Light before installing
I installed one of these with the optional frame and rails in a very tight ceiling location over a stairway. Before installation, I attempted to remove the light from the can, and noticed that it had 3 lock tabs holding it in place. You have to press in these tabs to remove the light, and if you install the light back in the same orientation, you will not be able to remove it after the installation. To get around this since I am doing new construction and have to remove the light for the sheetrock installation, I simply rotated the light when I pushed it up into the housing so the locking tabs do not line up with the holes in the can. There is sufficient friction to hold the light in the can, and I can easily remove it by pulling down.
