Customer Questions & Answers

Do you hear a "BUZZ"?

One individual wrote about a buzzing. Does anyone else have this issue?
Asked by: mamaG
I have remodeled my home with these disk lights. No problem with normal non dimming switches. They will have a buzz with the a incandescent light dimmer. You must replace with a LED light dimmer- Leviton had the best one to date, it has a compensating adjuster and a slide adjust. Cost above $50.00, but you only do it once.

Can this light be installed in a junction box with installation above it?

I couldn't find anywhere on the box whether the light was IC rated or not (whether I can have fiberglass insulation ontop of the junction box or whether I need to move the insulation off of it).
Asked by: Samuel
I've installed these. They are designed to go in either a can or a 2x4 box or round fixture box. They do not run hot at all but they do need to be in some sort of enclosure. They are not ic rated if you don't put them inside an enclosure.

Does the beauty ring come off so you can paint them?

Asked by: Hop
No, its a one piece beauty ring or "Trim" and lens. I suppose you could paint them if you mask the lens.

Bright light when turn on with dimmer set at lower setting.

I bought 4, LED T67 ,recessed lights installed a and dimmer LutronTG CL 153 PR I get a spike of bright light then light sets to adimmer mode that I like. Is there anything I need to change on the 15 amp Circuit maybe a new type of dimmer? Or ???
Asked by: Nick
Depending on your dimmer. Some dimmers have a setting on the side. When you set your dimmer to the lowest setting there might be an additional black lever on the side that allows you to lower the "lowest" setting on the dimmer.

4 in. Soft White Recessed LED Can Disk Light (E)* is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bright, Compact, 12.5 watts LEDs are really changing the way we light. Look for the traditional 6" PAR38, R40, 5" R30, and even smaller hot incandescent "can" lights to disappear soon. No need for deep, giant, insulated fixtures anymore: this unit is only 1" deep, consumes only a few watts, produces almost no heat and theoretically will "burn" for twenty or thirty years. "Changing bulbs" will become as quaint a term as the "78 RPM record album." All you need now is a simple electrical box in the ceiling to gather the wires. While this T-47 unit technically can fit in certain round or octagonal boxes, I spent a long time in the Electrical Box aisle with the T-47 in my hand, seeing if it can fit in various boxes and still have enough room for Romex connectors and wire nuts. I settled on the Raco 8235 4" Steel Square Box that's 2-1/8" deep. Works great. Has 1/2" knockouts and a steel mounting strap. The T-47 itself is driven by 5 closely spaced CREE LEDs marked as 120 VAC, 105 mA, 12.5 watts, 0.9 pF (picofarad --a measure of capacitance) and "Suitable for wet locations." The outer diameter is 6". The mounting screws are spaced 2-3/4" apart. The back body of the unit is 3-1/4" in diameter. The diffuser that emits the light is 3-1/4" in diameter. It outputs a pleasing, approx 2700 degree kelvin (a regular incandescent bulb is about 2800K), warm, diffused, very bright light that easily outpaces that miserable fluorescent junk forced on us. The unit is not recessed at all; the diffuser is flush with the surface and slightly domed. This design throws light everywhere, perfect for over the bathroom sink where I want light on my face, not projected onto the vanity surface. It's not a "mood" light. It comes with a 4" can retrofit kit: an Edison adapter screws into the old bulb socket and has an orange quick disconnect for easy wiring. A 3-wing spring gripper then adapts to the 4" can itself. Neither of these parts was used in my application. It also comes with a pigtail (with the same orange quick disconnect), three wirenuts and a grounding clip for hard wiring, and a flat adapter ring to attach to the ceiling box and receive the unit's mounting screws. Be careful when tightening the unit to the ring. The unit's made of plastic and can easily crack. The adapter ring is designed to attach to boxes that normally receive a plaster ring, not to boxes that receive switches. The unit is dimmable and designed to burn for 35,000 continuous hours. If the light is on for two hours per day, that's 48 years. I foresee eventual yellowing of the plastic housing, even as the plastic trim in my older can lights has yellowed and even cracked after twenty years of UV, dirt and heat. Time will tell. They make spray paint for plastic. LEDs will only get brighter, emit a fuller spectrum and get less expensive in future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I wanted I purchased the lights to replace six 45w can lights. They are much brighter than the old lights and the fact that they are not recessed means they cast more light into the room. I also bought a dimmer (TGCL-153PR-WH Toggler 150-Watt Single Pole/3-Way Preset CFL-LED Dimmer) which makes the new lights very flexible. The lights were very easy to install. It took 30 minutes at most to put in all six. The other benefit was that they are sealed. My old can lights leaked lots of cold air in the winter! These are a vast improvement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I bought several different LED recessed lights to see if I could take them apart and use LED components to retrofit an old ceiling fan fixture. This is the one I selected for the project. The light module features, what looks like, 5 Cree XB-D 3000K LEDs in a cross pattern. Giving off a very bright wide angle beam, with very nice color rendering compared to other units. What I was most impressed with is how everything is thought out to fit in a very compact module (suitable for junction box installation), while providing adequate heat dissipation. Yet, components are still modular, and relatively easy to take apart. Also, the build quality of the unit I had was impeccable. A beautiful peace of engineering. I'm planning to buy more of these to install around the house unmodified.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from They buzz This is a really nice product and they would be perfect if they didn't buzz. If you are using a set of them, beware if you want a silent roomm

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Recessed Light The color and wide spread of light from this fixture is very nice. The light comes on instantly and the color sure looks like it is from an incandescent lamp. The installed look is also very nice. We installed a couple in recessed cans in a shower area, but most of ones we installed were simply mounted on a junction box. It's amazing to get a high-end recessed can look without a recessed can! The long life and economical life cycle are also super pluses!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Remodel of Office Lighting Great product for remodeling office space that needed more light. It will also be good for current and future energy savings. Replaced a low light chandelier appx. 75W with 6 12W LED 4" recessed commercial can lights that are very bright and are now controlled by a dimmer. Installation was accomplished by placing cans on 32" centers powered from old ceiling fixture wiring. Cans or Junction boxes are Carlon1-Gang 18 cu. in. Round used for remodeling. The ceiling boxes have a height of about only 2 3/4" . The light hardware fits within the box. It takes very little ceiling space. They do not put out heat, but run cool. Fixture holes were drilled with slow speed 4" hole saw after locating ceiling beams. The junction boxes need to be located so that they will clear the beams. Wiring was accessed by drilling 1/2" holes through the middle of the ceiling beams with a 3' flex drill sold in most electrical departments. Beams are on 16' centers and in two lights we had to drill through two beams. The 4' hole allows sufficient access that it is relatively easy to locate correct 1/2" hole placement once the bit is engaged in the beam. The power drill easily bores through the beam with the drill appx a foot below the ceiling, the shaft of the bit fulcrums off the edge of the access hole. Use the ceiling as a help to your curving the bit. The edge of the hole, at least a 1/4" will be covered by the box if you have some scaring of the edge. Pull your wiring and seat your junction boxes. Wire the lights per instructions. Placed blank on old fixture junction box, will probably use it for future fan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these lights! We used these lights to replace some drab & dated hallway lights in our 70's era home. What a difference! They look fantastic. We love that we can get the recessed light look just attached to regular junction boxes. The color of the light is very attractive. Two things to note: The box is labeled "warm white" instead of "soft white" like here in the website. This led to some confusion in-store when we went to purchase. However, the SKU & kelvin rating are the same. Also, our junction boxes are too shallow to house these (we have a lot of wires) so we had to replace them with new, deeper boxes. At first we were put off by this, but it was not actually difficult. We used old-work j-boxes & did not damage the ceilings at all. The new j-boxes are much better anyway.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Light! These are great Disk Lights. I have purchased 3 and they are bright and look fantastic. All you need is basic junction box and they mount and look like can lights. There is one drawback and that is they will not fit in the older smaller junction boxes. I had to break out 2 old ones and put in the new ones to get them to fit.
