You strip wires with the notch in the tip of the jaw. The hole in the end is for bending wire into j loops.

Answer:
I use it in my classes when teaching how to install electrical and control wires. I have used this style in the field for over 20 years. When working with smaller wires this is my preferred tool.

The diamond shape by the tip of the blade is used to strip the wire. Further in there is the flat blade to cut the wire. The screw or bolt you see on the handle is to set a stop if needed so you can strip the outer shielding off of the wire without cutting into the wire. If you can gauge the pressure you are using you will not need to set the stop to strip the wire. This tool is very easy to use and works surprisingly well, especially for the price. Read Less

Answer:
Hello Glassconnect,
This is a basic wire stripper. Unlike some models were there are multiple cutter holes for different gauges of wire this features only the one. You can adjust the cut depth on the tool by loosening the adjustment screw on the handle. This will decrease or increase the bite depth of the jaws depending on which way is is moved. I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Chris

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by should have gotten something else There are similar tools with a spring to reopen the jaws, which makes them easier to use. All strippers of this type must be adjusted for the wire size being stripped with a machine screw and nut. the scrw and nut moves too easily in the adjustment slot, making it difficult to get it into position to tighten it and test it for size. Adjusting for wire size is made more tedious by the tendency of the screw to move while it is being tightened. Adding a star lock washer helps a little. A nylon lock nut might be better. July 5, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for small strips Always need to have this type in your arsenal. Love using this for network wire or other similar small wires. Grips right without ruining those small strips you have to do. Not too expensive. January 12, 2016

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good but not good enough Good but needs to be bigger to be able to splice 100 amp or 200 amp service line January 13, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Work Great, Good Price These don't look like much but they work great. Very simple, very easy to use, and have an adjustable stop if you need it. I have probably put 2000 wires though mine and they still work great. They are the perfect size to carry around, put in your pocket, or throw into a small bag. They just work. November 2, 2014
