Customer Questions & Answers

does the 6" recessed LED can disk light require a separate can to be installed, such as a Halo 6" can?

Asked by: goldbug007
This can be installed into a separate can such as a Halo. OR it can also be installed into a standard 4" junction box. If you don't have anything yet then it is easier and cheaper to install the 4" junction box.

do these come with a remote activated dimmer?

I have seen some in the Bonita Springs store that have a remote to let you INCREASE the brightness.I would like to know if they made one where you can use the remote to DECREASE the brightness. Thanks
Asked by: zappped
Dimmer not included, I paid about $35 for a good one, works well

Can I install these in older style incandescent high hat recessed fixtures?

And then seal and cover the high hat top in the ceiling with insulation? If one were using regular incandescent lights this would present a serious fire hazard..
Asked by: Sparky
Yes, they'll fit in a 5 or 6" can.

Is there a tool to grab hold of bulb to change out , bulbs get tight and cant remove easily without breaking bulb

Asked by: 481035sus
There isn't a bulb, it is a CREE LED. I'm not sure if it is swappable.

Customer Reviews

6 in. Warm White Recessed LED Can Disk Light is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used with the "correct" dimmer, they are great! I recently installed these in (2) rooms I just renovated in my home, like others I ran into the humming issue while using dimmers. I tried using all the suggested dimmers with no success, buying $180 in dimmers to try all the options at the local store. I settled on hours of research finally finding one suggestion through some review of the fixture. The model that does work with with this fixture without humming on any range of illumination level is the Lutron DVELV-300PH-WH ($74.99 a piece)Yikes. I know this model to work on currently (2) separate rooms with (4) lights a piece. With the exception of having to use a 75 dollar dimmer, hours of research, I am completely satisfied with these lights!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Light - no hum on dimmer Installed 10 of these lights in my kitchen. Was happy as the install was pretty easy and the lights give off a good natural color. 4 lights were installed on a standard switch, the other 6 were on a 3-way dimmer (Lutron DVCL-153PR). As night came, and things quieted down around the house I noticed the "buzz" or "hum" (as mentioned by other reviewers). Was pretty disappointed and annoyed. I contacted CREE (the LED manufacturer) to discuss the issue. They provided prompt customer service, and stated I needed to swap my dimmer for an ELV dimmer. I found the Lutron SELV-300P and Lutron SELV-303P (3-way) switches, installed them and they work great. No more buzzing. All and all a nice product, the only thing they missed was providing better documentation in the packaging to communicate which products are compatible. Note: you will want a dimmer with these lights as they are very bright when on full.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get the updated version and there great. I installed 10 of these on a Lutron DVWCL-153PH-WH dimmer and they made a loud humm or buzz. Then read other reviews with the same complaint, saying you have to use the Lutron DVELV-300PH-WH which is $74.99! After lots more research I found they redesigned these lights and fixed the problem. I replaced all 10 lights with the new style and the buzz went away still using the cheaper dimmer. The new style is the one on the left in both pics. Hope this helps some others.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needed as alternative to can lights, but not ready yet. I am an installing contractor, disappointed that T91 lights were suddenly discontinued, to be replaced by T67. If the move were good for consumers, I would say so. I am disappointed with the 2700°K color temperature of the T67, finding it yellows my paint colors. I wish the choice had been 3000°K as in T91, or that CREE might have applied a mix of phosphors to give a more-full light spectrum. My strongest disappointment with the T67s I have tried, is in an irksome hum of the luminaire while powered through dimmers. I find the same hum with two dimmers I have tried so far, a Cooper Wiring Devices D106P, and a Home Depot store-recommended Lutron Maestro.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Careful with the Dimmer! As other reviewers have noted using a regular dimmer (even one rated for LEDs) can result in a disappointing, annoying electrical crackling noise as though you are under high-tension wires. I agree with other reviewers that using the expensive ($65-70) Lutron DVELV-300PH-WH dimmer makes all the difference in the world. Now the noise is totally gone and the lights are wonderful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Light for low wood panel ceiling I remodeled the basement and used 26 of this lights. That's a lot of money up front. I staggered them every 6 feet or so. They work great. I did not use a dimmer. I like the low energy use. One of them quit after about a month of use. I tried to contact the manufacturer but they did not respond. I was able to get a replacement from H.D. I think this is the way to go in the future. Just a 4" can on the ceiling. I hope they get cheaper in the future.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good with some quirks I installed 4 of these lights using 4" circular ceiling boxes instead of recessed light cans. Install was fine and it works fine, with some quirks. 1) You can see the 2 mounting screw heads through the lens. The package provides 4 white stickers to place on the screw heads to make them disappear. It wasn't apparent when I read the instructions so I had to rework these after the fact. 2) Light HUM - The lights can work with a dimmer, which I intended to do. With an on/off switch, they work fine. With a dimmer, the lights hum. I first used a Lutron Diva DV-600PR incandescent and got hum. I installed a Lutron MACL-153MR LED dimmer and the hum remained. No difference. The hum is slight and exists even when the dimmer is at max. The hum does not change much when the lights are dimmed. So, if you plan to dim, expect some humming.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice looking light I purchased one of these to replace the 50 watt par20 halogen bulb above a shower and am delighted with the results. It uses 1/4 the electricity and produces nearly 20% more light (660 vs 550 lumens) with a nice, broad spread. Color of the light is nice and cool and renders the color of the tile in the shower nicely. Installed in an existing 5 inch can without issues - the package says that it will fit "many" 5 inch cans. I can't see it being a problem in any as the module is shallow and the retaining prongs are quite flexible. This one was a little trickier to install than other LED modules I've used as it has a ground wire that needs to be clipped to the can housing that the others didn't have. Just an extra step - not technically challenging. What is great about these is that they can be installed in a standard octagonal junction box - no need for a recessed can! Properly sealed, a J-box is a lot easier to insulate properly in an attic than a can. There is an included adapter plate for use with a square junction box as well. My install did not include a dimmer. There is another review here that mentions a hum when used with a dimmer and I've read the same elsewhere. Hopefully, the manufacturer can fix this as it is otherwise an excellent product.
