what dimmer should be purchased with this light

After some research and contacting Lutron, I found the dimmer my electrician installed hadn't been product tested with these lights. I have the lutron 3 way toggled/Adriano AYCL-153p-xx. Lutron explained what I am experiencing (slowness and flickering) is called "popcorning" and he was very familiar. He suggested I contact Commercial Lighting. I called Home Depot and asked them what dimmer they recommend, since they sold me the product. The gentleman said I'd need to contact Commercial Lighting and provided a phone. I called and got a voice mail message for "Cordelia lighting" <?> What model dimmer have you all used?

Lutron Diva 150-Watt Single-Pole/3-Way CFL-LED Dimmer - Light Almond Model # DVWCL-153PH-LA. No flicker, maybe a 100 msec of delay on start up. Use these in my bathroom to control two of the low ceiling units in the shower. Also one over the bath and one for the wall sconces. No issues with any of them.

issue with delay when turning lights on

I had an electrician install four lights two weeks ago. Two lights run on 1 dimmer and two run on another dimmer and a single switch on the other side of the room. When I turn the dimmer to brightest, there is a 1 second delay, if that, when I turn them on. When the dimmer is set to dimmest, it takes those same lights about 5 seconds for the lights to come on and when they do, one comes on and then the other afterward, very slowly and flickering until they are finally on. I also notices the lights flickering intermittently if the dimmer is low. My electrician picked out the dimmers and they are lutron (from Home Depot as well). Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?
Asked by: MacungieGirl
I presume these are LED lights you are talking about. If so, my experience is that some LEDs are slower to light than others. Some seem to have that fluorescent-like delay and flicker when dimmed, and others don't seem to be a problem at all. I selected the Commercial Electric T66 series of recessed lights since they are rated at a higher output (75 watts) than the usual lights which only give you 65 watts of output. I have no problem dimming these lights with a Lutron dimmer. Unfortunately, it usually requires a lot of Internet research or trial and error to get a good match for dimming. The options are not always a perfect match.

Customer Reviews

6 in. White LED Recessed High Ceiling Trim is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This light is great My incandescent blubls kept burining out at least one a month. I tried CFL, but they took too long to brighten up enough. I have 10 foot ceilings and I was tired of dragging the ladder out all the time. I finally bit the bullet and got these lights for my kitchen and wow are they bright. It set me back a bit having to buy 5 of them, but I am extremely pleased. They work great as dimmables and retain most of the color spectrum as you dim, unlike incandescents.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product Can't testify to longevity, however, it looks great, attaches solidly to a 6" can light, has excellent light output for kitchens and other high lighting locations. Probably would want a dimmer in living rooms or bedrooms. Works fine with a standard dimmer. Doesn't go down to a dim "glow" like an incandescent, at least not on a standard dimmer. It probably dims better on a C*FL dimmer, just haven't tried it yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Finally found an LED that's bright enough for use in a kitchen! This is rated as equivalent to a 75W bulb, but it seems brighter to me. I've got it next to a 100W halogen bulb and it provides almost as much light. This starts up almost instantly, unlike the compact fluorescent bulbs I used to buy (but will no longer!). If these come down in price just a bit I'll buy 5 more for my kitchen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tons of light Despite being installed in my 18-foot-high ceilings, these throw off a lot of light. My electrician put two of these in (so I can't attest to their ease of installation) and I had to have him install a dimmer switch, they were so bright. They look classy, clean lines, a touch of modern. I want to purchase another one for my kitchen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple but beautiful I have installed 8 of these lights above or island in the kitchen. Lights are very bright, I think 4 would be enough, however my wife wanted more..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LED Lighting LED lighting is best solution for me. I have high ceilings that are hard to reach. I replaced six 2-Light Oil-Rubbed Bronze Flush Mount light fixtures with LED lighting. The light is much brighter. The appearance is much cleaner. The lighting is now flush mounted to ceiling height. LED lights should last for eight years before replacement. LED lighting is not cheap. Altogether LED lighting costs $100 per light for the recessed can, the trim, and the light. I think the long life, bright light, lower cost of use, and physical appearance of LED lights makes the added initial cost worthwhile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Choice This T66 series LED light is perfect for my needs. I have six in the living room. It is the only recessed LED with a 75 watt equivalency compared to the others I saw in HD which have a 65 watt output rating. These lights dim very well with the Lutron single pole dimmer switch that is made for LEDs, and I get a good range of dimming. No hum or problems of any kind and I have three separate dimmers on these LEDs in various rooms. Realize that these lights are 3000K soft white, so the light will look much "whiter" than you are used to seeing if you currently use incandescent torchieres or other more yellow lights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extraordinarily Bright lamp We used this product to update the outdoor lighting on our patio and underdeck. Four lights replaced four can-style lamps with 60 watt bulbs. The result was so bright we will be adding a dimmer switch. The white color of the trim was incompatible with our ceiling design, but it was a simple matter to remove the trim from the lamp and spray paint it to the desired color.
