After some research and contacting Lutron, I found the dimmer my electrician installed hadn't been product tested with these lights. I have the lutron 3 way toggled/Adriano AYCL-153p-xx. Lutron explained what I am experiencing (slowness and flickering) is called "popcorning" and he was very familiar. He suggested I contact Commercial Lighting. I called Home Depot and asked them what dimmer they recommend, since they sold me the product. The gentleman said I'd need to contact Commercial Lighting and provided a phone. I called and got a voice mail message for "Cordelia lighting" What model dimmer have you all used?

Answer:
Lutron Diva 150-Watt Single-Pole/3-Way CFL-LED Dimmer - Light Almond
Model # DVWCL-153PH-LA. No flicker, maybe a 100 msec of delay on start up. Use these in my bathroom to control two of the low ceiling units in the shower. Also one over the bath and one for the wall sconces. No issues with any of them.

Answer:
Any inexpensive incandescent slide type dimmer should work. Some of the approved dimmers are in the installation instructions. There’s no need for LED specific type dimmer.

I used the LutronToggler 150-Watt Single Pole/3-Way CFL LED Dimmer. Some reviews I read said it was subject to making buzzing noises, but I didn't have any problems with it. I bought it Home Depot around the same I bought the 7 fixtures for it (all LED).

issue with delay when turning lights on

This question is from 6 in. White LED Recessed High Ceiling Trim

I had an electrician install four lights two weeks ago. Two lights run on 1 dimmer and two run on another dimmer and a single switch on the other side of the room. When I turn the dimmer to brightest, there is a 1 second delay, if that, when I turn them on. When the dimmer is set to dimmest, it takes those same lights about 5 seconds for the lights to come on and when they do, one comes on and then the other afterward, very slowly and flickering until they are finally on. I also notices the lights flickering intermittently if the dimmer is low. My electrician picked out the dimmers and they are lutron (from Home Depot as well). Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

I have no problem dimming these lights with a Lutron dimmer. Unfortunately, it usually requires a lot of Internet research or trial and error to get a good match for dimming. The options are not always a perfect match. Read Less

This product is Energy Star rated which means it starts at one second or less. However, when a dimmer is connected, starting will depend on the dimmer and dimming position. At full brightness, the delay should be the same as the switch (no dimmer). If the dimming position is any where below full brightness, then there will be longer delay and that is normal. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by OK, if you don't mind the electrical hum The faint electrical hum was enough for me to take these back to the store, but II was pleased with the ease of installation for these LED recessed lights and the look. Brightness in the room was very nice and color acceptable, more towards the whiter side, but not the blue white of fluorescent lights. I found the optional ears made for a tighter fit, so used those instead and no need to worry about lights slipping down in the future. When all the cans were lit, the hum from each light combined to be very audible and standing in the middle of the room directly between all of the LEDs was enough to say no way. Seems the drivers aren't of the best quality and are more suitable for a commercial, non-home installation, where electrical hum is the acceptable. Too bad, I really liked the look otherwise. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Installed 5 in 11 minutes! I didn't think I'd like an LED retrofit option for my existing 6" non-IC cans, but bought one to try it out. Luckily the existing cans have the "ears" that these lock into for a secure and correct installation. The only reason it took as long as it did was because I had to carefully remove the old bulbs and trim to not get dust and insulation everywhere. These look great and there's no indication that they're a retrofit, etc. Seems that the LED driver can be easily replaced if that goes out. Only issue I'm having is with dimmers (I get 100%, 75% and 50% brightness only)... I have a toggle-style dimmer and from what I've read if I replace with something a little higher quality it should dim across the brightness spectrum. These replaced the 80W halogens I had and I can't tell the difference at all! One other side benefit of this retro is the existing cans have a thermal protection switch. If anything should go bad with the LED or driver (overheating) the switch should open. May 27, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A super energy saving light. This LED downlight is so easy to install ! The light output is excellent and the color rendering is comparable to a regular tungsten light bulb. A great energy saver! September 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LED Lighting LED lighting is best solution for me. I have high ceilings that are hard to reach. I replaced six 2-Light Oil-Rubbed Bronze Flush Mount light fixtures with LED lighting. The light is much brighter. The appearance is much cleaner. The lighting is now flush mounted to ceiling height. LED lights should last for eight years before replacement. LED lighting is not cheap. Altogether LED lighting costs $100 per light for the recessed can, the trim, and the light. I think the long life, bright light, lower cost of use, and physical appearance of LED lights makes the added initial cost worthwhile. March 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Choice This T66 series LED light is perfect for my needs. I have six in the living room. It is the only recessed LED with a 75 watt equivalency compared to the others I saw in HD which have a 65 watt output rating. These lights dim very well with the Lutron single pole dimmer switch that is made for LEDs, and I get a good range of dimming. No hum or problems of any kind and I have three separate dimmers on these LEDs in various rooms. Realize that these lights are 3000K soft white, so the light will look much "whiter" than you are used to seeing if you currently use incandescent torchieres or other more yellow lights. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great in 9 ft ceilings These offer the best light distribution of any recessed trim I have used. Now I keep a couple of these and a couple of regular ones on hand. As the incandescent bulbs burn out I just replace the whole trim. I have put one of the low ceiling ones outside the garage door in the little overhang and it has been on continuously for well over a year, maybe two. That was after I had to replace two of the wet location trims which got brittle and broke when I had to change a bulb. February 25, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Enclosed Lighting for Shower The installer said this was a fairly easy install to replace an older recessed light fixture (which should have never been used over a bathing area). After installation, the large walk-in shower is bright! Beautiful! Would highly recommend, and very reasonably priced! February 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Go for it! I have been having problems with my top hat lights in kitchen for years, they'd either burn out or not enough light and higher wattage meant lot of damaging heat. The CFLs always burned out too, and turned an orange color near end of life. Happened to walk by an end display of these units, the price seemed right (under $20) and the system to attach was perfect for me: removed the inside bracket, screwed in the light bulb connector, plugged Into the LED and after I got the idea, each of the other 4 took me longer to open the package. Be careful of one thing, they are bright. I tried a commercial one meant for high ceilings in our kitchen, was too bright. These also are pretty bright since I use 5 in my ceiling. My wife complained it was too bright, so went back to HD and found a nice Duplex switch with a side dimmer switch rated for LEDs, and it brings them down to a comfortable level and easy to go max if needed. When you go down too low, they start to flicker and they say that may damage the bulbs. Looking at the various LED products out there, it is the way to go. Some of the items gave a life span of 34 years; that means I will never need to replace again :( but that's ok, they run cool, very fast "on time". I suggest buy one and see how you like it. Finally they look great, slightly recessed. Love this purchase. February 4, 2015
