Longer connector cable.

I need a bit longer extension cable, approx 50", for product 1000034543. What does home depot recommend?
Asked by: Sleipner
You need to procure an 18/2 cable, and there are numerous connectors online - that you can crimp together and complete your circuit!

After getting home and opened the box it only would do a small area so we went to a store in Sterling Colorado to get extra connectors and they said we don't sell the attachments. When to a store in Scottsbluff Ne and they said the same thing. Finally one of the sales people said you need to go on line for the extra parts. NOT HAPPY AND THAT IS REALLY DUMB! So went on line to get the extra parts. If you are going to sell this product in the store you should be able to get the extra connections unless you only plan on doing one cabinet which is unheard of.

These connectors are a must of you cut this LED strand lighting into multiple segments. The design is quirky and could be improved. Not sure this type of connection will have longevity. One of the connectors did not work - causing the lights to flicker randomly. Thankfully I only needed one extra connector, not all of them, so I just threw away the faulty one.

I must admit, I was a little apprehensive about this product after reading the reviews, but it seemed to be what I needed for what I wanted to do. My project involved putting a light string into the top of a display case using 5 connectors (2 packages) to go around 5 corners. Fortunately, everything worked perfectly and I had no problems with the lights not working right. The product requires that one be able to 1) precisely cut the light string at points marked with scissors, 2) use a razor blade to carefully remove rubbery plastic from the electrical contacts on the light string, 3) match up the positive (+) and negative (-) symbols on the light string and the connectors, and 4) close the connector onto the light string. While each step sounds easy, it's not quite as easy as it sounds. It requires careful and precise work. There is very little room for error in cutting the light string at the right place. The rubbery plastic is somewhat difficult to remove, even with a brand new razor blade. On some of the connectors, the positive (+) and negative (-) symbols are printed with ink, but on others, they are just stamped into the plastic and are not easy to see. The connectors are a little bit hard to close onto the light strip, but once closed it makes a tight connection. All-in-all, I'm very happy with the results and recommend the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked like s charm The overall product was excellent. A little tricky to work with at times. Once I got the idea of the clicking system and where to line up the copper it worked great. Be patient , and remove the tape back too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Difficult to Install but work well, compact design, easy to solder and splice The jumpers worked well but were not easy to install. The plastic costing on the strip lights must be removed without damaging the tape light itself in order to install the jumper. Once the exterioer plastic is removed the remainder of the installation is easy. They are also easy to cut and solder in an extension section of cable if necessary, just watch polarity.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from effective and somewhat fussy to install This works well to make corners, do 180 degree turns, etc. It requires careful attention to detail and good fine motor skills with small objects when installing to get it right--follow the directions and it will work. After carefully cutting the light tape in exactly the designated place, use fingernails to separate the very thin light portion from the rounded clear plastic above it. Pull back the two apart without bending the light portion sharply. Otherwise the directions are good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tricky, but works well The connector clamps down on the end of an LED strip. It's easy to put the connection dots of the strip on the very small metal tabs of the connector, but it often doesn't work until you wiggle it around and just keep trying it, sometimes numerous times, before both electrical connections are good and the strip lights up. It clamps very tightly though, so once you get it, it will stay connected and work fine.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Harder than expected installation The directions drawing example do not show the correct position between the light strip and the connector for the two to work successfully. The connectors require that the light strip have the plastic taken off to expose the copper conductors. This is much easier said than done, but after a few tries it can be accomplished, However, the picture in the instructions shows the removed "hump" of plastic facing away from the "Connector Plug's" mental prongs in the final application. This is NOT the way it works. To make a good connection one must have the newly exposed copper conductors facing the "Connectors" metal prongs. Two pictures have been attached; One showing the "wrong" way to position the light strip in the connector; The other shows the "correct way" to position the light strip in the connector before closing the lid.
