The packaging for this product says it has self adhesive backing. The back of the base is smooth. It seems I need to open the base to get to the adhesive backing. How do I open the base? I does not seem to turn. Please tell me how to get to the self adhesive backing. Thank you.

The peel and stick disc is sticky on both sides. The problem is peeling the paper off. It's like trying to get one of those produce bags open at the grocery store. And I discovered accidently, if you get both layers off, and stick the light somewhere then twist the flute in its base, it will open the compartment where the little screws are. I'd tried to do that before sticking the thing to the wall, but Read More

Answer:
Yes. As I remember, it is already on the base. Look for the shiny waxy looking disk. It is the backing of the self stick tape. Lift an edge and peel it off. It doesn't look like it will hold, but it really does.

I have an adhesive with it inside the instruction notice but I'm not sure about the self adhesive backing you are asking about. Call for Assistance at 1-877-527-0313. I got that phone # from the back of the package!
Good luck.

Answer:
Mine came with 2 circles of peel & stick that you peel off tab & light will stick permanently. I discovered by accident that the light is magnetized & will stay in place over a screw mounted on the underside of the cabinet. Note: not all of the underside of my cabinets have a screw, but you can install a small screw where you would like to place them. Bre0927

Peel off the liner paper on the flat surface on the back. Adhesive is thin and is not very good on a wall or rough surface. Good on metal or glass.

Answer:
Hello Melanie,
The bottom portion of the base twist out of the upper dome. If the base is reluctant to separate try using the flat of your fingers pressed against the underside of the base while twisting the top. It should separate. I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Chris

Seems like many people had issues opening this but mine was pretty simple (maybe a design change in later versions). I'll try to explain the method I used. Open one hand, palm up and place the base it. Then take you other hand, palm open and place it on top of the base. Now squeeze your palms together and twist both hands in opposite directions, counter clockwise. Should unlock fairly easily.

This little package is crammed inside so tightly that it's almost impossible to twist the base apart. I shoved 3 of my tiny electronic precision screwdrivers between the base and the cover at 3 points. Then I wiggled the locking clips with a 4th screwdriver. This took quite a bit of time and I was ready to just snap the whole thing apart and deal with the results. In the end, a little brut forced actually seemed to work in my favor for once (and I'm still amazed that I didn't break any of the clips!). And I really love these little lights! Read Less

I cannot 'just slide off' the end...which end opens up and how? I would imagine the end without the pushbutton.

The end plastic cap at the end opposite from the on/off switch unscrews. Hold the the end with the on/off switch and unscrew the other end. The battery carrier then will slide out for battery replacement.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Kitchen under cabinet lighting Bought to use as an under cabinet light over my coffee area in kitchen. Liked the look, that you can adjust the light or remove it from base for portability. Not quite as bright as I'd hoped. I have some round single LED under cabinet lights that are brighter and are also battery operated. Was pleased that the batteries were included. It does not stay attached to the cabinet with just the sticky tape. It has fallen twice and it did not come with screws for option of screwing into cabinet though it appears there are holes to do so. I have bought small flat head screws to attach it to bottom of cabinet. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great little light Disappointed it didn't stick better but great little light. July 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible Bought one , returned. Bought another and returned. Third times a charm, nope. Piece of junk. Everyone had a bad switch on it. I kept trying them because mine did stick and now I have to remove the base. March 14, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Somewhat disappointing This is a relatively simple fixture, but the instructions are just pictures. The double sided disk for moumting is easy peel 3m adhesive on one side but the opposite side is plain white and does not come off easily. We had to dig into it with a knife. Turning the light on and off causes the tube to fall out of the holder. However, it fits into the small under cabinet space that we have and luckily we will not need to turn it on and off very often. Would not recommend or purchase again. February 3, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great product, practical and stylish. This is an extremely practical little light that can go anywhere. It is ideal on a metal surface that you don't want to use any adhesive on. I'd give it five starts if the magnet in the base holding the light was just a little more powerful. It hold it up fine but does move around a little on a horizontal surface. You have to push the on/off with on the end and hold the light in place with your other hand. If you are taking it out of the base that's not an issue. January 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MAGNETIC TASK LIGHT GREAT FOR DROP CEILING SPOTLIGHTS ON ART ETC... Just got these today. Im running one all the way down so I know what battery life really is.
