Answer:
Voltage Fluctuations would cause that. Could also be where you have it mounted. Is it exposed to heavy vibrations?? TIG welder? Dampness? Something about the Frequency of a Tig Welder causes flickering of the tubes. That's what the guys on the Everlast Welder Forum were saying.

I have not experienced this, as mine have lasted several years with no problems. Could it be a defective bulb batch or voltage variations? I will be curious to see what others might say myself.

They do now offer direct replacement bulbs that require no modifications to the fixture. I have no experience with these, but they are advertising them as replacement LEDs requiring no rewire.
So, you can use these for LED's, BUT you either have to modify the fixture OR use LED tubes meant for fixtures using fluorescent tubes without modifications. Read Less

Yes you can mount them directly to a beam or ceiling. the backside of the fixture is flat. there is 1 screw on both ends that hold the shield/cover which you have to take off in order to surface mount it

Based on what I saw, No. Not easily. Has slots made for the S Hooks. You might be able to use Eyelets to anchor to the wall. And a different S-Hook to attach. However, It may point slightly downwards. Or you may be able to make a Bracket. Kind of like the ones used to hold a flat screen to the wall.

It could be be, but obviously the light would be "at you" rather than on you, and if you used the on-off pull chain, remember to pull it out rather than down. I don't think these fixtures care what way they are mounted.

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 71 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by shoplights THE LIGHTS WERE RELATIVLY EASY TO HANG. AS A REPLACEMENT FOR OLDER FIXTURES. August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Not LED compatible The associate we asked said this fixture would take LED bulbs. It doesn't, which meant another 40 mile round trip back to the store to see if it was the fixture itself or the bulbs. After getting the right bulbs, it works fine. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent value These lights come ready to install, provide excellent light for our basement work areas, and the convenient pull cord is perfect for our needs. I have 10 of these lights throughout our large basement. Just what we needed. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice and bright Easy install. Plug in and turn on. Hang by chains and the plug in cord is decently long. Could be longer but the unit was cheap so good to go. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job at a great price These lights are great for a shop lighting application. I really can't say anything other than they do a great job at lighting my shop area and didn't break the bank for several. If I had to chose a shortcoming I could dock the power cord for feeling somewhat cheaply made, but it isn't a highly handled cord (touch it once installing them and that's it), so I don't have any concerns about its longevity. I've bought several since my first set and will gladly buy more in the future. April 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great light great price These lights are great. Add good bulbs and they make a great GROW LIGHT SETUP. May 18, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Shop light Very nice, does the job Tried using cheaper light from Lowe's, but two of three were tripping breaker. Was going to buy cheaper fixture at Home Depot, but even thou brand name different, was same manufacturer as Lowe's fixture. May 4, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Useless with T8 LED This fixture was recommended by a Home Depot employee to be used with the Philips T8 LED tubes. Got it home, hung it, put the LED tubes in and nothing. Tried reseating the LED tubes to see if I could make a better connection. Still nothing, but a quick flash. Apparently these LED tubes do not work with this fixture. The finish on this fixture is nice, but the underside should have a gloss white finish for better light disbursement. April 1, 2016
