Answer:
Voltage Fluctuations would cause that. Could also be where you have it mounted. Is it exposed to heavy vibrations?? TIG welder? Dampness? Something about the Frequency of a Tig Welder causes flickering of the tubes. That's what the guys on the Everlast Welder Forum were saying.

I have not experienced this, as mine have lasted several years with no problems. Could it be a defective bulb batch or voltage variations? I will be curious to see what others might say myself.

They do now offer direct replacement bulbs that require no modifications to the fixture. I have no experience with these, but they are advertising them as replacement LEDs requiring no rewire.
So, you can use these for LED's, BUT you either have to modify the fixture OR use LED tubes meant for fixtures using fluorescent tubes without modifications. Read Less

Yes you can mount them directly to a beam or ceiling. the backside of the fixture is flat. there is 1 screw on both ends that hold the shield/cover which you have to take off in order to surface mount it

Based on what I saw, No. Not easily. Has slots made for the S Hooks. You might be able to use Eyelets to anchor to the wall. And a different S-Hook to attach. However, It may point slightly downwards. Or you may be able to make a Bracket. Kind of like the ones used to hold a flat screen to the wall.

It could be be, but obviously the light would be "at you" rather than on you, and if you used the on-off pull chain, remember to pull it out rather than down. I don't think these fixtures care what way they are mounted.

Rugged 2-Lamp Hanging Fluorescent Gray ShopLight is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 78.

If you are looking for an inexpensive fluorescent workshop light then this is it!! The is the second one I have purchased and both work very well. The fixture is very easy to install. The electric cord does have a three prong plug so you should have a standard outlet for power. I would consider the hanging chain to be light duty but then the fixture is not heavy so that is not an issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Commercial Electric Hanging Fluorescent Shop Light I have a couple small incadecent lights in my garage and needed a fluorescent to brighten up the area for working on things from fixing outdoor equipment, automotive work, etc and this did the trick. Easy set up and more than bright enough for my in my needs in my garage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not LED compatible The associate we asked said this fixture would take LED bulbs. It doesn't, which meant another 40 mile round trip back to the store to see if it was the fixture itself or the bulbs. After getting the right bulbs, it works fine.

I give this product five stars for the simple fact that it does what it says it will do. I needed a light for my garage, but my biggest concern was how well a florescent light would work in the cold during the winter months. Typically, florescent lights don't do well in such an environment. But because this light comes equipped with an instant-start ballast, the cold has not had any adverse affect on it at all. I hung several of them in the garage, and am relieved to find that they come on bright and stay bright with no flickering, even in a cold garage. Also, I was a little skeptical when I first removed the fixture from the package, because, well let's face it, they're not industrial grade construction. But, again, they do the job so this is not an issue with me. One of the fixtures was damaged in the package, but the folks at our local Home Depot were more than helpful getting a replacement for me, and even had me open and inspect it before leaving the store. In summary, I'm happy with these lights. As with any light, you know they're a good buy when you don't notice them. Oh, and don't forget to pick up some lamps... these don't come with any.
