Product Overview

Coco Fiber is a new eco-friendly alternative to peat moss. Peat moss is extracted from peat bogs that take thousands of years to form and years to recover and therefore is not a readily renewable resource. Peat bogs are part of a sensitive ecology that supports unique wildlife. Help protect peat bogs by using coco fiber a renewable resource that helps retain nutrients and balance moisture in composters and will continue to benefit your garden long after it leaves the composter. Using a completely natural, renewable resource for composting and gardening needs is definitely a good idea.

  • 100% natural coco fiber
  • Improves aeration
  • Acts as a natural sponge
  • Enhances decomposition
  • Eco-friendly alternative to peat moss
  • Absorbs water-reduces odors

Seed starter?

Hi does this stuff work good as a seed starter?
Asked by: evildeadguy8
Yes, you can use this as part of a mix to start seedlings in. I bought another brand last year and expanded some of the coconut coir to mix in with some of my garden compost (or you can buy garden compost) and some vermiculite. You can use perlite in place of vermiculite (it's usually cheaper) but vermiculite has trace elements in it = more nutrition for your plants. So, my mix was equal portions of each ingredient: 1/3 coconut coir, 1/3 compost and 1/3 vermiculite. Just use a bucket to fill it with each ingredient to be sure the measurements are equal. My plants really took off in this mix - great aeration for roots to spread. This year I'm also adding a few handfuls of worm castings to help with disease resistance in my plants as it gives plants a shot of micronutrients to strengthen their immune systems.

REALLY ...Now that you stated one order is for four bricks.......s how much is in each brick ?

Asked by: Anonymous
If you zoom in on the image, in the lower right hand corner it says each brick expands to 1/3 cubic foot. So if there are four of them included in the price, the expanded size should be a total of 1 1/3 cubic feet?

Compost Fiber 4- Pack is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Coir Compost Fiber I bought several of these coir bricks to use as a substitute for peat moss in a potting mix. After soaking the brick in a three-gallon bucket of water for one half-hour it expanded to fill almost the whole bucket. The texture is much like peat moss only a little "stringier". I hope to be able to use the potting mix soon and I'm going to use the remaining coir in my raised bed garden later this Fall. I wish that Home Depot carried this product at my local store in Mt. Laurel, NJ.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing product helped the root structure of my Giant Sequoia Trees, therefore it is actually helping to save the planet. I grow Giant Sequoia trees right here in Rhode Island. The Giant Sequoia tree absorbs more carbon out of the atmosphere than any other tree on Earth. It is also the fastest growing conifer on Earth, as well as the most massive tree on our planet. They also have the ability to grow in any agricultural zone as long as they are taken care of. Since the environment has been damaged, I like to do what I can to help it along. So I plant Giant Sequoias on the East Coast of the USA. I start them in my studio, and transplant them outdoors. It is important that I get the trees nice and strong at a young age, so they will survive after they are transplanted. Proper water, and making sure the root structure is strong is an extremely important part of growing these trees. Coco Fiber helps prevent water loss, and aerates to help root growth. Plus it is pH neutral, so it is much easier for me to know how much fertilizer to add. These trees like the soil a little more on the acid side. If I add anything to the soil that has a pH, then I need to constantly measure the pH in the soil so its not too high or low on the scale. Since it does not effect the pH, I can keep it on my routine feeding schedule. It makes this product convenient, and easy to use. The best part is that my trees love it !!! Above and beyond my opinion, it is ultimately the tree's opinion that counts more. And they are happy and healthy ever since I added the Coco Fiber to the soil.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Use for reptiles I used this with a mix of peat moss for leopard geckos moist hides. The geckos love it and most importantly it doesn't cause them any harm. The value of the item is very good considering some substrates are pretty pricey. I will continue using. Thank you!

There was NO label on any of the bricks. I am going by the pictures that that is what I have received. There is also NO instructions. I am getting the instructions from the Q & A . You might want to check this on my next order or I can write instructions that I want the labels. Kind of scary getting brown bricks and no label.
