Customer Questions & Answers

What is the best way to remove the stainless steel liner residue from metal appliances without scratching them?

Asked by: lovesDIYupgrades
My miracle sticky, gooey remove is WD-40. I have used it on greasy stove that came in my house. I have used it to get sticky stuff off just about anything hard. It works great even for road tar on a car finish without causing any damage. I would not work on porous surfaces because it might stain. Goo Be Gone did take finish off my cheap fake kitchen cabinets and WD 40 did the trick. Just wipe on, rub gently in the goo and it will break loose easily. Then wipe to dry and get any residue off.

I would like to use your product to line the inside walls of my microwave cabinet. This microwave also functions as an oven and vents heat out the left side. 1) Will this heat cause the Adhesive to fail? (it did with self stick tiles) 2) What is the melting temperature of the vinyl SS adhesive shelf liner? 3) If the liner can handle the heat, can I use a spray on heat resistant glue to attach the liner to the cabinet sides? (Plse click to expand photo attached)
Asked by: Peter
This shelf liner cannot be used inside of a microwave. It is designed for use as a shelf liner and and not a high temperature covering. Clarification: If used on the cabinet walls around the microwave where it is located, it will work. However, in the area where the heat is exhausted from the microwave, the adhesive could fail over time as heat will have an effect on the adhesive and also the vinyl covering itself.

Will Con-Tact paper adhere to cork? And is it appropriate for protected outdoor use?

Will Con-Tact paper adhere to cork? And is it appropriate for protected outdoor use?
Asked by: Mormor37
Con-Tact Stainless Liner is designed to adhere best to a non-porous, dry, and clean surface. While the Stainless liner would adhere to a cork surface, the condition of the cork surface and the fact that cork is porous may keep it from sticking for any length of time. Also, the liner is designed for indoor use. The adhesive backing is water soluble for easy removal. If it is used outdoors, even in an area protected from the weather, humidity, temperature, and direct sunshine would have an effect on the adhesion.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK, but not for everything If you are using for appliances, use it for small ones and something that's not in direct sunlight. I used it on my old dishwasher, which was all black, trying to match it up to my mostly stainless steel appliances in the kitchen. Don't use a credit card to smooth out because it'll scrape up and leave marks on the contact paper. Maybe a cloth? Credit cards work for plasticky contact paper but not this one. Little tiny bubbles seemed inevitable but if it's not in sunlight you hardly even notice it. I can see how this works for other projects like on a wall and it would be awesome. I have left over so I probably will try something cool like that. Overall, it seems to be a good quality product but I wouldn't attempt to do this over a large surface. Works for a quick fix or temporary upgrade. In the picture I included I haven't used a razor to cut the edges off yet.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for short term Used it to cover appliances. It looked good at first but later edges began to lift and curl up. Also the color/design wiped away in some places. I guess it's fine for a short term fix but you might have to keep reapplying it every few months to maintain the look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome This transformed my pantry. I had white wood shelves that always looked dirty. This contact paper was easy to install, my pantry looks like I have stainless steel shelves. It is now easy to clean. Love it

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked great!!!!!!!!! I used the sheets as a part of a design on my wall. It provided just the accent that I was looking for. It was thinner than I thought, so I was unable to use it as a backsplash option. However, I'm ultimately satisfied with the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased I used this to cover classroom cubbies. I have some items in the room that are rustic metallic and thought this would coordinate. I get many compliments on it's uniqueness.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Used as shelf paper, NOT to recover appliances I did not purchase this shelf liner to recover appliances...I got rid of old appliances and purchased stainless steel appliances to have them LOOK and actually "be" stainless. However, I did purchase this liner to look like stainless shelf liner...and guess what? It does!!! Works fine and is easy to clean/wipe off. I just wish the rolls came larger or with more on them. Price is good at Home Depot too...but still need more.
