On the positive side, this thing looks good once assembled. The instructions were incredibly detailed and easy to follow. However, the design is absolutely terrible in terms of stability (it relies on the thin plywood backing to hold everything together, are you kidding?), and the paint/stain was uneven in many spots. Many of the pieces didn't align to even acceptable standards, although once I put it against the wall, I didn't notice so much. It's doing it's job for me; looking good, and firmly supporting my stuff. I am dreading the day I have to move it somewhere else, though. I needed something in this size, and unfortunately there just aren't a lot of options out there. I would have returned it, but I definitely didn't want to unassemble, pack, and ship this 148-pound bohemoth.

We bought 2 of these bookcases. When they arrived, the boxes looked fine, but when we opened them we found that both bookcases were cracked and broken at various joints, and had to be glued and nailed together. Once we had them assembled and put in place, they looked nice.

I received it broke. Despite that the package appeared perfect when I opened it up, two of the long pieces were chipped badly. Like another reviewer, I didn't want to return the behemouth thing so put it up anyway. In setting it into place, those two broke pieces did not hold and the whole thing just fell apart and flattened. But a call to Home Depot and they picked up my broke unit and refunded by money. Still disappointing as there were very few bookcases of that size anywhere to buy online...now I see why
