Is this material fire resistant? I would like to use it around a fireplace.

Is this material fire resistant? I would like to use it around a fireplace.
Asked by: SFHD
It would be helpful to know what you mean by "around". Does this mean inside of the actual fire box where it could come into contact with the flame? If so, NO, do not use Galvanized Steel Sheet Flashing for this application on ANY fireplace. You also did not indicate if you have a Wood Burning, Natural Gas or Liquid Propane Fire Place. If it is wood burning, do NOT use this product at all. If you have a Natural Gas or LP unit, and this product will not be subjected to direct contact with the flames or be subjected to extreme temperatures, then it could be used. However, it would really be helpful to have some more information. Be advised that Galvanized Steel can produce Toxic Gases when it sees Extreme Temperatures. I hope this helps!

Is this magnetic? Would like to use for a magnet board.

Hello Anonymous, Yes, galvanized steel is magnetic- pure zinc is not. Thank you for your inquiry. Charlotte from The Home Depot How To Community

How much weigh can it handle without bending?

I want to use this sheet to cover partially an underground water pipe joint. So, I want to know what is the maximum weight can it handle without bending?
Asked by: TomEG
Difficult question to answer as it depends if the sheet is laying perfectly flat or not. As a general rule, 28 gauge sheet metal can easily be bent with your hands, and will not support much of any weight before it would bend. However, if you introduced some folds to it (think corrugated roofing) then it would support much more weight. So although I can not provide you with the actual weight, I can say there are other products better suited for your intended purpose. Cheers!
