30 in. Belt Drive Whole House Fan with Shutter is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from great for the money I am a licensed electrician and have installed over 200 of these fans and they have NEVER taken me more than 5 - 6 hours to install. yes the other comment about having a truss type attic is true but you don't need to cut out ceiling joists to install this it is designed to straddle a ceiling joist it comes with the cheap plastic filler pieces but I prefer to use thin plywood it makes for a way better install. The 2 speed switch is as easy as it gets its very self explained. If you're uncomfortable working with electrical please call a licensed electrician but the actual installation of these is easy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Quality Product Fan was easy to install although a few of the instructions were a bit short on details. Fan is now installed and all works great! A few other purchasers seem to have problems with the shutters - ours work great! Caution: remember to provide adequate ventilation to your attic!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Fan, easy installation I installed this fan in the second story ceiling of a 3700 sq ft home. Overall, the fan was relatively easy to install and the instructions were pretty straight forward. We did watch an instruction video on Youtube, just to be sure. It took two of us approx 6 hours to install. After installation, a few minor tweaks had to be made. The fan pulley was very loose and had to be tightened. Also, the supports on top of the fan which hold the fan and motor in place were loose and several additional screws were put in place to brace it and keep it from moving from side to side. Other than a few minor adjustments, the fan works great! The low setting is very quiet, and still pulls in a decent amount of air with only a few windows open. The high setting is quit a bit louder when you are standing near it, but not very noticeable from downstairs. With 5 windows open on high, the airflow is enough to make a paper towel stand straight out in front of a downstairs window. It cools off the inside of the house very quickly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love Whole House Fans You can't beat this fan for the price. Way more quiet than the direct drive fans. I had a direct drive at my previous home and it always sounded like an airplane. This belt drive sucks plenty of volume and isn't very loud. For those who have a difficult time installing it,. I would recommend paying someone. It isn't very hard to do but you need to pay attention to what you are doing. The only thing I am having problems with in the louvers. They rattle when the fan is running. I went to the manufacturers website and found a solution in the forums. Going to try and add the felt or rubber strips to each louver to add some weight and hopefully cut down on the vibration. I think that will work. Other than that,. can't imagine anyone complaining about this fan,. if you feel like complaining go pay a couple thousand for the Quiet Cool.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Noisy motor I installed the fan, and once it started, the motor made a very loud humming noise. it's irritating. and when you switch to the low speed, the motor changes frequency, but it's still very irritating. I don't want to have to go through the problem of pulling it down and replacing it. i'll just deal with it for now. the instructions said that whole house fans were noisy, so i guess they just can't make a motor that doesn't whine anymore. too bad my old fan that was in the house for 50 years has a bad motor. it was quiet...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from As advertised Low speed mode is quiet, high speed mode sounds like a jet is landing on my roof. We are happy with it on low speed, high speed is nice if you just want to air out in a flash and don't mind the noise. There is no sealing or insulation on the shutter and they are kind of thin, plan to seal it in winter. Minus one star for noise

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well but check all bolts/screws first This fan really cools off our garage. All of the vents we have added to the windows and garage door have tons of air coming in now. Warning though. Before you install check all bolts and shaft set screws for tightness. I had several of the shaft set screws come loose after about a month of running 24/7. Started making a squeak.
