Customer Questions & Answers

I'm using this over a window. Does this have a bracket at the bottom to attach to the trim so the wind does not blow it around?

Asked by: Bernie
It's May 2017 as I answer this. I've had quite a number of these shades and lots of experience. Yes, there is both a weighted alum pole and end caps that attached to both ends of the alum pole. These end caps are then used to anchor bungee cords to the bottom of your window trim. Understand that the plastic end-cap rings are merely "friction-fitted" into the bottom weighted aluminum pole. These end caps routinely and frequently pull right out of the ends of the pole ALL THE TIME. I'm not sure how to remedy this; these end caps absolutely need to be welded into the bottom weighted pole but the manufacturer doesn't choose to do this. Nor do the manufacturers read these reviews for improvements that can be made. So it is up to you to figure how to mitigate this problem. When these end-caps pull out, any bungee cords tie downs are now useless and the shade acts like a sail on a ship and flop around. A possible semi- solution may be to GLUE the end caps into the bottom alum pole to provide some small additional security and strength so they don't pull out quite as much. All in all, I love these shades a great deal despite these challenges.

Does this roller shade come with a removeable hand crank or cord to roll up and down or is it cordless. The description mentions all three.

I don't believe it makes any difference as both sides are alike.

can you buy the hardwear to hang these shades ?

Asked by: Anonymous
May 2017 answer. Although the hardware IS included, I have purchased the hardware from the internet as well. Why? Because I appreciate having the CORDED version and NOT the hand crank version. The hand crank takes FOREVER to raise and lower the shade, I can't stand it. Unfortunately, Coolaroo is making more and more of these via the hand crank method. Therefore, I went on the internet and ordered the CORDED version of the hardware and swapped it out.

We live on the coast where there is bright sunlight, strong wind, and salt exposure. The shades have not faded and remain mechanically in great shape. Some rust is showing on the roll-up hardware, but they still work like new. We're very happy with them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Brackets cannot hold length While we were pleased with the 2-72" shades we are having some difficulties with this larger outside shade. The length meets our needs but the wind has blown down the shade. It needs some type of ceiling bracket to hold the center in place. We have reached out to the manufacturer and have not received a response to date.

The lesser priced one had a tension bracket that would not work. So we installed the Coolaroo and it worked perfectly. We returned the lesser priced one and bought our second Coolaroo. Both installations were so easy and they look great. We installed them in a three sided screened patio only on one wall so I don't think it will reduce the hot air but they will keep the sun's rays out. So far we like them a lot but it's only been one day! Now we can watch the shadow of the birds on the feeder.

Our installation into a concrete ceiling required a "hammer drill/masonry drill" which we rented from Home Depot. Once we had the proper tools, installation was a BREEZE! These shades offer privacy and relief from the afternoon FL sun. The hand cranks are super easy to operate making it simple to raise and lower our shades. I like the ability to "tie down" the shades...that was an easy installation, too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I purchased this back in February and finally got it installed this week. It's easy to use and really cuts the heat and blocks the sun. Today is very windy and the tethers work perfectly. The only drawback is that I'm afraid to tether it unless it's all the way down. The dog is not happy and I have to untether it to let him out. I would recommend.

When the wind blows the unit disengages from the enclosed socket (which is supposed to hold the unit in place). I have to use bunge cords to hold the shade in place. Also the enclosed wand takes to many turns to get the unit rolled up/down. Very poor engineering.
