Product Overview

Corroseal Rust Converter is an elite, industrial strength product for all marine, household, automotive, and industrial rust problems. Rust occurs naturally when the iron in steel oxidizes and returns to its original state, iron oxide. Through an innovative chemical conversion process, Corroseal Rust Converter converts rust (iron oxide) into a stable substance, magnetite. It also primes the surface with a high quality latex metal primer at the same time. Corroseal truly provides one step corrosion control. Corroseal features, water based rust converter with high quality latex metal primer, non-flammable, non-corrosive, easy to apply (brush, roll, or spray), easy to cleanup with soap and water. Eco-friendly alternative to sandblasting Corroseal is the best way to deal with rust because it is less expensive, less time consuming and is much more environmentally friendly than sandblasting. Corroseal eliminates the need to sandblast rust by chemically converting rust from iron oxide to magnetite, a black and inert substance. Don't remove rust, convert rust.

Answer:
I had some areas of my metal lawn furniture that I lightly sanded and smoothed the original paint and did other areas down to the metal to get rid of most rust. This product covered both type of areas perfectly.

Answer:
Not recommended over old paint. But there is a way. Paint the pickets with Corroseal. Let dry 24 hrs. Apply a second coat. Let dry 24 hrs. Now go back with acetone and wipe the entire picket. It does not seem to hurt the parts rust repaired, but it does wipe off any gummy residue over the previously painted portion. I own an iron working shop and have used this technique many times. Hope this helps.

Somewhere on the Corroseal (water based rust converter) website it says that you can use an oil based primer over the Corroseal. So this should work? Thanks

I used Rustoleum primer over Corroseal on th external of my tractor engine cover with no issues. Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 114 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great stuff good product for using on my under carrage of a car trailer that had seen many years of use. a bit on the spendy side but works well. Goes much further than I would have imagined. I could have gotten by with about a quart rather than a gallon for the supports under the trailer floor. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked great on metal utility shed The shed roof was a rusted mess. I did not want to get into belt sanding or sandblasting. This stuff went on with a 1" brush and a 6" roller. Dried to a brownish black. I primed white with Kilz (moisture prevention) and painted with exterior white. My mistake was buying the gallon. I only used half to cover the 9 x 12 shed roof TWO times. So, a gallon might be good for 400sf. It's ok, I'm going to try it on the lawn mower, snow blower, gas grill, furniture, etc. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by amazingly it works as advertised I used this with a spray bottle and gloves. It stores well so get the gallon as you will find many uses on rusted everything. August 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best rust converter I have ever used. Works exactly as advertised. Stops rust in its tracks and converts it. Drys to a somewhat shiny finish. Great stuff. Easy to apply, goes a long way, can be sprayed for exceptional coverage. It will not discolor good paint, but does leave a "clear" finish on it. I would suggest wiping that off before it dries. The truck I used it on looks brand new underneath. You can paint over it or, or as I did, undercoated over it. I highly recommend it and will use it again on just about everything that has corrosion on it. I live in the rust belt so a product like this is almost as good as a rustproof/undercoat when the vehicle or whatever is new. June 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for steel lawn furniture primer Used it as a primer on steel lawn furniture I got from a house sale. Peeled and sanded away almost all the years of paint, primed with this product, waited till next day, when it sets 'black' to show where it is (like that!) and painted with RUSTOLIUM Enamel Bright white. Looks like a million dollar job. July 26, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by It worked but with a HUGE PROBLEM Ok, here's the thing, I used Corroseal rust converter and primer on some rusty truck parts for a ford truck I'm rebuilding. Now I read the directions and applied the rust converter onto the parts. It started to work turning the rust black. So I left it for another 24 hours just to make sure that the surface was completely covered and black. The HUGE PROBLEM was that the next day there was orange spots poking through the black surface. Then when I went to paint it (I used a high quality latex paint) the orange spots were still present. So then I figured something is up with this stuff. I used another rust converter on another one of my ford truck parts and 1 day later its PERFECTLY BLACK!! (CHECK OUT THE PICTURE) I then painted over the black surface and the part looks BRAND NEW! November 11, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good stuff Im useing this product on an older vehicle that has some large areas of rust .this stuff works great!!! and it wont fry your lungs like some other products. July 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great Easy to apply and converts rust to allow painting the surface easy. July 12, 2016
