The cord looks normal so it should be easy to use a lamp on/off switch onto the wire. Do you see any reason why I cant do it?

Answer:
It has an on off switch. You could plug it into a temperature controller which is essentially a thermostat.

Answer:
It already has an on off switch on the cord. You can plug it into a sliding lamp dimmer to control how warm it gets.

Answer:
It produces about the same heat as a 150w light bulb. It's not designed to heat a room.

Yes it can, even though the instructions say otherwise. I emailed the company and they said it could as long as it is securely attached. You would need to use brackets of some sort. Do NOT rely on the velcro that is included with it as it is not secure enough. There is nothing in the workings that prevent it being horizontal. Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works as described This heater works exactly as described. I've used it for 2-3 months with no problem. Keep in mind that it is only 150 watts, producing a little more heat than a 150w light bulb. This is NOT a room heater. Also, the one I got is grey, not white as in all the pictures. April 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Under desk heater for legs and feet. This is an excellent product for its intended use. It provides warmth to your legs and feet when properly placed (vertically mounted) back in the sit down area of a desk. It provides 150 watts of "radiant heat" (down to 75 watts if you also purchase the accessory hi/low switch). Please understand that the 150 watts is not capable of heating a room and it is not intended to do so. When properly placed under a desk it will gently radiate heat to the floor, to the sides of the desk chair opening, to your legs and feet. It provides radiant warmth, not a blast of hot air that makes you too warm. For even better results, turn it on about 1 hour before you plan to work at your desk. During operation at the full 150 watt capacity, it will cost less than 2 cents/hour to operate (at average United States electrical rates). The quality appears good but only time will tell. The chances are good that the product will last a long time since it is a low wattage heater. I also ordered the accessory hi/low switch and there are times when the heater capacity is adequate when the switch is set to low (75 watt heat capacity). March 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice heater for small areas this is the perfect size heater for my chicken coop and keeps it just above freezing without any danger of fire or harm to the chickens. Just disappointed that the legs are sold separately but at a reasonable price. January 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for chicken coop Perfect and safe for chicken coop. I don't recommend mounting near the roost though since this isn't water proof. I used pipe strap for mounting it to the side wall opposite of roost. 5 stars if mounting hardware was included. It's nice that it has a switch on the power cord. The switch also lights up when power is on. January 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lifesaver! We built a chicken coop and chickens are pretty durable and tough little creatures but we wanted to make it more comfortable on the below freezing nights. This heater was easy to install and is a plug and play item. We installed it on the interior area of the coop with a freeze protect plug. The radiant heat raises the temperature enough to keep it comfortable. It doesn't create a hot environment but serves its purpose perfectly for what we wanted. Make sure you do not have a lot of air movement or this product will not heat as it should. Very happy with this product December 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Purchased on another customer's review (which was a mistake to do) We purchased this product because another customer said he used it in his chicken's coop & the chickens pushed their backsides onto it to keep warm (in the winter). That was our sole purpose of buying this . . . for our chickens. When we plugged it in and "hand tested" it, we were certain it worked exactly as it should, however, we are pretty sure it would burn our chicken's backsides, as it was too hot to touch. Wish they made a 100-watt flat panel heater. Think you would sell a lot of them. December 22, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Mediocre Heater I purchased this heater to put under my desk to keep my legs warm. I am a paraplegic and have no feeling in my legs. I needed something that wasn't going to get too hot & burn me. I also was looking for something that was quiet. Other heaters with blowers were so noisy that I had to move away from my desk to answer the phone.. I would like for this unit to get a little warmer. The unit I received does not have a high-low switch, just on and off. I am somewhat satisfied with its performance & struggled with choice of recommending to a friend. It's just a notch above mediocre. November 3, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Missing Parts The heater did not come with the legs that were pictured, nor the adhesive to attached to the wall. Also did not come with any paperwork and/or instructions. January 20, 2016
